You literally just spent several previous posts trying to compare the Army life to slavery, so if anything that's extreme on its own, too. So you'll have to excuse me if I'm under the impression that slavery and the Army being similar are really poor comparisons. No one wakes up in the morning happy or hoping to sign up for slavery.
We who got drafted were not happy about being forced into work camps. I told Sgt. Dodd when i was but 25 how strange to be in Germany supposedly fighting for both them and our Americans freedoms when in the Army we virtually had no freedoms. To leave work and go into town required a permit from the Army authority. Had I simply stayed in my room and refused to come into the office to work for the day, what do you think the Army would have done to me?
Something far less than what was actually done to slaves who chose not to work. Folks in the Army were drafted because they needed someone to fight for America's freedom and kill bad guys. Slaves were taken because they needed labor for stuff they wouldn't do on their own, gave them no choice in the matter and severely punished them, to the point of death if they refused, worse because they were already seen as racially inferior.
They weren't taken back they went of there own free will. Marcus Garvey one of the more prominent members if not the, at least, titular head of the back to Africa movement within the African-American community in the 1920's and 30's. Suffiice it to say that those Africans already living in what is now called Liberia did not exactly welcome them with open arms.
Where did slaves get the funds to go to Africa? The country of Liberia was founded in 1821 by former slaves from the United States of America as a result of the end of the transatlantic slave trade and the efforts of the American Colonization Society (ACS). The ACS was the most actively involve organization in bringing a halt to the slave trade. Tomato or Tomata If you were not drafted, you have no conception of what i speak of. I fought nobody for anybody's freedom. I was however under severe rules. Suppose I wanted to return to the USA to visit my family. Nope, not allowed.
No more extreme than hating whites and wanting America to become a hodgepodgeof different languahes and cultures
I've never understood the fact that from 1940 to 1973 the USA regularly enslaved most 18 year olds for the military and everyone accepted it Other countries do it too, and some are worse but I still don't understand how they got away with it in peacetime (or even in war actuallly) I mean, it's fundamentally illogical to use slaves for soldiers for obvious reasons. (re the Egyptians and the Mamelukes I lived through that myself, mind you, and I still never could understand how everyone just didn't understand they were being enslaved.
We draftees understood we were slaves. Funny how Democrats call those wishing to evade slavery are called draft dodgers.
Of course it has relevance. The liberal media considers these people as heroes. Look at what CNN wrote for Winnie Mandela's death. They worship this convicted kidnapper and murder advocate as a freedom fighter against 'oppression'.
I am not saying we get to entirely blame blacks over the water plight now at the Cape in South Africa, but who else would you blame for them running out of water in a major city? https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/01/africa/iceberg-cape-town-drought-wxc/index.html
America IS a hodgepodge of different languages and cultures and has been throughout our history to one degree or another. And the extreme view is that we should take steps to keep ourselves a white majority by FORCE. If you want us to remain white have lots of kids and train them to have more, anything else is totalitarian. You guys think that anything other than treating whites like they're the "Master Race" is hating them and that's idiotic and you know it.
During most of our history immigrants learned English and loved America Now we have people from central America waving foreign flags and demanding entry - in Spanish We are bringing in alien cultures faster than they can assimilate Whereas America used to be a melting pot liberals want it to be a smorgasbord
America was colonized by Europe to be honest. And Europe has a variety of languages. But we all know the one language spoken by all born in the USA. And that language is English. We may also speak other languages but if we can not converse in English, we are in deep trouble. I speak daily to people from India. All of them speak other languages yet speak to me in English. I speak to Chinese daily. All speak English. I know one or two phrases in Chinese and none at all in any language spoken in India, other than English. English is widely spoken in India. When i served in the Army, I was spoken to in English. I have toured a lot of the USA and speaking English, never have problems. We need not screw up a working system.
Everyone should have a second language. Most ot the world does and that language is English. Most people functioning here pick it up fairly quickly. It never was a problem until the right wingers started regarding it as a personal insult if you had an accent.
That's all menial compared to actual slavery. You actually got to go home at some point, slaves never did. You were an actual American citizen with full rights, slaves had no such thing.
