    1. 100% Correct. Doesn't mean that he couldn't be appointed to a position of power. Horizonal Harris could be AG, Beano as Homeland Security Director and Spartacus as Defense Security for example.
    2. Extremely unlikely? Depends on who gets in power. Stupid people make stupid laws...

Well since there are an admitted 300,000,000+ guns and trillions of rounds of ammunition already in the US, limiting future sales is like pissing into a hurricane.

When my grandson was twelve years old he was helping me load my 9mm, 38, and 45acp rounds. My neighbors 8 year old pulls the lever on his fathers' shotshell reloader before every match.
Trillions of rounds of loaded ammo available. You will be a long time waiting for that stash to dry up.

With the same exact logic that has us paying for a wall that was promised to be paid for by Mexico.

1,317 adults constitutes the entire US population? I don't think so.

I am a Progressive gun owner, and nothing about a buy-back appeals to me in any way, shape, or form.

What I do agree with, as the article states, is increased mental health funding, which according to that poll, has a 89% approval rating.

Root Cause Mitigation is the only thing that will stop (or reduce) mass shootings while the 2A is the law of the land, and I have no desire to change that.

To some extent laws were changed after Katrina to address what happened. The emergency confiscation of guns by police decree, such as happened in New Orleans after Katrina, is expressly against the law in my State (WV). Any State or local police attempting ad hoc gun confiscation in WV after a natural disaster would be engaged in an armed home invasion and should be treated accordingly.

I believe Federal law also makes ad hoc gun confiscations after a disaster illegal.

In a post natural disaster situation the words of Bill Jack should be remembered: "When the police don't obey the law there is no law."

And that ammo will be good for a long time. The US military is still using .50 cal. ammo from WWII.

So people want to ban the sale of a .45 auto pistol, which has been around 100 years? Most polled, I bet, have no idea what these terms. For example, low information people will say we need to ban machine guns, which was pretty much done in 1934.

I think, regardless of who wins, there is a growing sentiment on the left that they should chip away, first by starting with assault weapons, and then using that success to continue to inch away. Not saying it will be easy, I'm just curious if Democrats can make any headway here, or whether the second amendment is bullet proof. With all the talk about changing the rules, it seems like thrre might be some movement, but I have no idea. Sounds like you dont think there will be a change.

From my standpoint, pressuring large companies has been a good way to get at least some changes made. That seems to be a better route than trying to change the rules of the game, but again, not sure. More was asking.

If you were sane, why can't you be trusted with gun rights?

Other than posting memes, what are you proposing?

First of all, Heller vs. DC says that we are allowed to own firearms in common usage. Based on sales figures, ARs are in common usage.

Second, he couldn't do it without a law passed by Congress.

Not in the case of New Mexico's universal background check laws.

That is already done around the country. Every single sale of a gun from a gun store involves a background check (except for a few states that require a firearms permit (check is done before they ever get to thte gun store), and a few other states that allows people with CCW permits to skip the background check (but they have had a background check with fingerprints done, for the most part)).

Well, the gun stores keep the paperwork, and they call in certain information to the feds (the NICS number (NICS meaning National Instant Criminal Background Check System). Usually, an instant "yes or no" answer is given over the phone. Sometimes it takes a little while (up to 3 days, IIRC). The link below is from the FBI's explanation of the NICS.

    https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/nics/about-nics

It's interesting to me how many people don't know the basics of this. And, no, I haven't bought a gun since the NICS began, so I just know from reading about it.

That 300,000,000 estimate was done in the 1990s. It's probably closer to 500,000,000 now.

The sheriffs would be responsible for going after those who ignore the law, they've said in NM they won't do it.

A couple of years ago, when I was still an NRA member, I would get calls from them that began like this: "What do you think of President Obama's attempt to take your guns away?". I'd laugh and ask them for proof. They could never provide any beyond some obscure news conference where Obama mentioned Australian gun laws.

My point is that it is the NRA that manufactures the BS line that Dems all want to take your guns away. This, in turn, spurs gun sales. I remember a comic strip showing a gun shop with the sign "2016 OBAMA IS GOING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS SALE", where each of the preceding eight years had a line through it.

And the people of NM, should they so choose, can recall the Sheriff for not enforcing the law they wish.

They can't not because they don't want to, they can't get the votes.

The NRA is still responsible for more fear mongering than all the Democratic candidates combined.

Democratic Presidential Clown Car Update for September 16, 2019.

“Biden threatens a black man with a chain, Beto wants to take your guns, and Democrats don’t want to govern America, they want to punish it.”
