Another fantastic episode. What was the turn off for you? I loved all the politics involved. Also, the best war in all of Star Trek, along with delving into some interesting new species. It was certainly the darkest of all the series; not pristine like The Enterprise.
Huh - while ST: TNG hasn't aged well for me, DS9 is still excellent and Voyager has gotten much better with age - at least to me. But if you started watching DS9 with season one, I can see why you'd hate it. The first two seasons were a waste save for "Duet" which is one of the top three episodes ever made in that run. STD? Hyper PC-Drive - engage!
Agree with pretty much everything. TNG was IT for me during it's run in my late teens/early 20s. By the time DS9 came along, I was in a different place. I finally watched DS9 for the first time, about a year ago. What a fantastic series! The characters on TNG are completely one-dimentional. I have a new respect for the depth of the characters on DS9. The last six episodes created one of the most interesting story arcs ever, in that format. I'm so glad I finally took it on. My largest complaint with DS9 is related to the number of body snatcher/alternate universe/time travel/sentient holograph episodes a viewer has to sift through. (Not all bad, but mostly bad.) Edit to add: Currently re-viewing Voyager. Late in season 3, so I get to meet 7 of 9, soon. Yes, still pretty good. TNG characters got a bum deal, truly. No character development whatsoever.
Discovery is pretty good, I ended up going with the monthly subscription of CBS All Access after my 7 free days up, that and twilight zone
One of the unsung heroes of Star Trek, was Theodore Sturgeon. He invented the Vulcan story as well as the pon farr. He wrote Shore Leave, which is one of my favorite TOS episodes. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Theodore_Sturgeon Sturgeon wrote one of my favorite short stories of all time - Shottle Bop. I strongly suggest finding a download and reading it. https://www.fantasticfiction.com/s/theodore-sturgeon/ Just fyi, The Sound of Thunder is my other favorite short story.
