Now, I'm glad someone made this distinction. Human civilization is a bit more complex than a fire pit.

300.000 years means it isn't even old . There are clues pointing that humans start using fire like 1.5mya in Africa , and ~400.000 in Asia and Europe .
Homo Erectus migrated out of Africa long before we show up .

So posting this story in the religion forum is supposed to tell people how old the earth is ?

How does some 300,000 year old find tell anyone how old the earth is ?!

    - - - Updated - - -

You haven't a clue what I believe about the earth's age.

Some people are so eager to argue, they have lost the ability to read.

    No offense.

The article says culture not civilization

    - - - Updated - - -

The distinction here is the fire appears to be made to order, at a specific time for a specific reason

I thought there was evidence of people using fire nearly a million years ago.

Absolutely - However there is a quantum leap from, having fire and trying to keep it alive through whatever means, and the ability to make fire to order. That seems to be the message from these pits.

I like to think of the person, who might it have been? A teenager? The one who first
    started a fire.

What were the circumstances? What happened after that? What did everyone say?

For sure, that knowledge was the greatest discovery of all time.

I wonder how fast it spread? Everyone would want to know how to do it.

A mistake I made, and I deeply regret it, was when I visited in Philippines, and my friend told me that her Dad knew how to make fire without matches. WHY didnt I beg him to demonstrate?

Then I have no clue what this is about, because you said......

Which implies you posted it here because "many here" do not know how old the earth is.

So I just wondered, in your goal to educate, how posting this story helped fix that.

Yeah and some old timer yelling at the kid "Stop fooling with that dagnabitt fire - get out and clean up the stegosaurus poop all over the garden, and look at the state of your cave young man. Back in my day blah blah blah" lol

It is pretty easy once you get the knack. Have a look around youtube, plenty of survival guides out there will show you the basics.

Since when did Christians care about what the bible says? They ignore it anytime it's convenient to do so.

Many Christians pick and choose what to treat as scripture and ignore everything else. For example, you don't see many far right Christians bringing up the fact that the bibles says all debt should be erased every 7 years because it's immoral to enslave people through debt.

But being able to live by the able as a whole and making an conscious choice to pick out specific parts that you do not want to follow are two different things. For an example, look at the Westboro Church. They base their entire doctrine on the fact that the bible says homorsexuality is bad, and purposely ignore any scripture that does not back their personal beliefs that god hates all gays and wants Christians to shun and hate them.

That is an example of what makes it impossible, conflicting instructions.
