London... Usually does something, usually it's on TV, usually TV plays cities around the world in different timezones from Fiji (I believe) to Las Vegas, NV... London here and, yeah.... Time Square/NYC has the ball, we still see that. Looks cool, I forget if there's fireworks with that, but; Looks cool. But also..... In my country, we have fireworks in our gardens. Where I'm from 'the city' is no exception.
I have a theory, because where I'm from is diverse with many immigrants, you get fireworks lit off at whatever time their old country's New Years rings in... Just a theory, but, fireworks here, on the hour pretty much. But still, there's the odd firework going off somewhere again...
WHAT GOES UP.... I remember New Year's Eve while living in a large inner city neighborhood (aka the 'hood) the fireworks of choice were firearms usually fired into the air. Our friendly neighborhood roofer did a brisk business after the first rainfall after New Year's patching bullet holes in people's tin roofs "Police warn against celebratory New Year's Eve gunfire" http://www.dentonrc.com/news/news/2017/12/29/police-warn-celebratory-new-years-eve-gunfire EXCERPT "COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police around the country have urged residents against the dangerous practice of shooting off guns to celebrate the New Year and warned of criminal charges against those who do. In Columbus, Ohio, Deputy Police Chief Richard Bash said Friday that police will charge anyone caught firing a gun on New Year's Eve. Bash said the shooting is dangerous and ties up officers who must investigate numerous gunfire reports. If people can safely record evidence of a shooting on their phones they should submit it to police, he said."CONTINUED
RE: You're right, it does look cool. I very much doubt that there are commercial fireworks near Times Square because of the fire hazard. I'm not sure what sort of chemicals are needed for successful spike hair styles but I'm pretty sure that they're highly flammable. We set off our fireworks in the front field of our farm but, still, one of those flying pinwheels still landed on someone's car last time. Happy New Year!
What is 'Trendy' today ; what I call what the kids are wearing, it's not nearly as much hairspray as our 'Olders' out here in my town and fireworks not really (miraculously) being a problem for them. -- Happy New Year
My city is prepping for the largest annual fireworks display in the U.S. for the start of derby season....one hell of a month long party.
Yup another Tet is here. Tet will forever always remind me of the Year Of The Monkey in 1968. https://www.vietnamonline.com/culture/vietnamese-zodiac.html
Not sure where the Vietnamese Tet comes from in terms of dating. January and February are not Spring Equinox or even close to it. But right now it's 75F temp in Hanoi so this may be when the annual planting of rice began for them.
