I agree. Personally, I thought the Democrats had a reasonable compromise. $1 of revenue for every $10 in cuts? How the hell is that unacceptable?

It's politics. You can't just create tax breaks and budgets to infinity. Lots of these budget decisions have time frames so you can go back to the drawing board and decide whether to continue it or not. In the past this was never an issue, Republicans and Democrats did what was necessary. The only thing that has changed now are Republicans... they have been hijacked by conservatives who are driven by an irrational ideology. If anyone is manufacturing this asteroid it is the Tea Party and crazy ass conservatives.

Hmmm. Let's see. Progressive ideology from both parties has been at work for over 100 years now and suddenly we see the results of what? Oh yeah, a boogie man. Gotta have an enemy to blame when you are the problem.

Nothing like blaming Republicans for Democrats breaking the law by not bringing a budget up for vote for going on 4 years now.

What are you smoking? We are the largest and most robust economy in the history of mankind. Like I said, your days are numbered! Intelligence will prevail.

Because the spending was a good idea. This isn't something new. We have had to make decisions for the past century. The only reason this is such a big issue is the conservatives have drawn a line in the sand and are forcing this issue.

IMO, you offer no real solution. Your solution is always to give more power to the problem causer(big government).

I will grant it that both parties have got us here, but SS/medicare were mainly socialist policies of the democrat party, while excessive military is that of the republicans. One is a legitimate duty of government that needs to be trimmed a great deal. Senator Coburn has stated that 40% of defense spending is waste.

Welfare on its own is too big, but it pails in comparison to the obominations of SS/medicare. These are the true killers of this country and largely progressive/liberal programs. These have so destroyed the independent american to the point that even conservatives will not discuss getting rid of them.

So, we are back to square one. There is no solution for our problems because the progressive movement has infected the host far beyond repair.

Same as usual, they want the taxes now and to make the cuts much much later. Eventually, we only have the taxes and not the cuts. I say, make the cuts now and raise the taxes later.

So force them by law to make the cuts now. But doing the exact opposite is going to screw us just as bad.

I am not arguing that at all. I just think it is retarded to think only one party did.

One think needs to be kept in mind. There are no cuts being presented at all, none, no cuts in current spending, only reductions in the increases in spending.

The other thing to keep in mind is that most of the government revenue problem is due to decreased economic activity, not because of taxes. It can be argued that the minor increase proposed in income tax would not effect much, either economic activity or increase in revenues. What can be argued is the massive increases in taxes the Administration wants everywhere else will affect both economic activity and revenues. It will stunt economic growth and revenues since they rely more on a healthy economy than they do tax rates along with more unintended consequences to business trying to stay alive against an unfriendly government by moving out of the country even more as it becomes more advantageous to overcome the transportation costs associated with such.

The rich will survive but the poor will just be subject to a stunted economy caused by government interference.

Sorry, I don't subscribe to the "(*)(*)(*)(*) you, random economic occurrences you didn't create and had no control over are all your fault, so choke on it" doctrine.

thats exactly what sequestration would do. mandatory across the board cuts to all govt programs, and a tax increase for all taxpayers----actually sounds like a pretty good start towards fixing the problem.

Going off the fiscal cliff means government ignoring it's own previous (*)(*)(*)(*) ups.

Based on what Boehner is saying, they are preparing for the fiscal cliff. Their idea of "revenue generation" means magical loopholes being closed. They refuse to raise rates. I don't think Obama is budging on this. The American people have spoken, time for the Republican's to start listening. I work in a recession proof industry so I don't really care at this point. I honestly would like to see the Republican's destroy themselves even more by making us go off this cliff. Would be fun to watch.
