The difference is, as you quoted, that the device restrictions are based on a specifically identified threat while Trump's travel ban was based on political opportunism.

I need hardly say that I disagree - I got the impression it was to tighten up on the inbound vetting procedures to limit the possibility of admitting jihadists. Obviously you're more interested in their 'human rights' :wall: than the safety of your fellow Americans. I'd love to know what makes you obsessive liberals tick.

Trump declared his policy during the election of a complete ban on Muslims entering the US because he thought (probably correctly) it would win votes. Because that was actually totally impractical and probably illegal, he (or at least his team) had to come up with something close enough to appease his base but distant enough to be actually implemented (which they still haven't quite managed). Note the complete lack of any references to intelligence or assessments of threats.

Whose "human rights"? I just answered your question.

Incidentally, I'm not American, not obsessive and don't accept the ill-defined label "liberal", especially when it's thrown as an insult. :)

I think cellphones and all electronics except for medical devices should be banned because cellphones could be used to trigger bombs. Terrorists have long used cellular phones to trigger improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The Trump administration is not doing enough despite the specific threat.

The world is trying to deal with the Muslim threat by throwing anything and everything it can at the problem expect sensible solutions.

You people are so incredibly indoctrinated in the terror propaganda. Why not just ban people from airplanes, including the crew, that should solve the problem. Or you could just all bend over naked for the TSA's fun and games. More people have been killed by lightning since 9/11 than foreign terrorists and it's certainly not because the TSA had anything to do with it.

Yes, and the new versions have also been presented as temporary (though with scope to extend them indefinitely if he wanted). That element hasn't changed and makes no difference to the points I made.

Business laptops not only are critical to some businesses, but baggage is lost and most laptops have a tremendous amount of personal information to a computer geek, even if personal information is not saved as the keystrokes are still on the hard drive.
When I fly I always carry my laptop outside my carry-on for those rare instances they announce there is no more room and carry-ons must go in baggage.

Blah blah - you're never wrong are you! If he's said anything since 'until we know what the hell is going on', perhaps you'd be kind enough to prove it. On the other hand don't bother - you'll only obfuscate again.
