I once wore a red MAGA cap to a local Supermarket in the south. All was normal until I went thru checkout. When the jovial cashier with a northern accent saw my hat, her eyes got real wide with odd facial gesticulations. She laughed out loud and began giggling, then muttering while ringing up my groceries. I left unsure if her reaction was approval or she hated my guts. No one should react that strongly to a hat supporting an American President.

 

Were threatening words used in this case? Angrily snatching a hat off somebody I suppose is mild assault. But sometimes I think it can be taken to ridiculous lengths and am apology and sometimes a reprimand is in order, but application of any criminal or civil law isn't warranted. The parent who tells his kid that if you do that again I'll knock you into next Monday is not making a violent threat. I would love to rip you a new one is a figure of speech, not an actual threat.

Unless there is more to go on than what we know of the unacceptable and inappropriate action of the bus aide, I don't think this incident warrants application of criminal law or a lawsuit. But the aide should appropriately apologize to the kid in front of others who witnessed the attack and should not repeat the offense, or she should be fired.

 

Trump didn't divide the country. That is what a brainwashed MSM drone would claim. This is craziness. You have bought into the 95% bad press they deliver on the man. He is no saint, but he is hardly the divisive racist that you claim. Barack Obama went far far far harder into divisiveness than anyone and you likely don't even know it.

 

I agree with your post, but it was the left who set the bar at doing anything to anyone for any reason is a hate crime. If the hate had been a gay pride hat the left would have exploded with hate and rage, it would be all over the news and Trump would be blamed for it.

The bus aide was probably concerned for the students safety. I've been reading of people being attacked for wearing the MAGA hat recently.

IMHO, there's always at least three threads on page one of Current Events that really ought not to be there but it's not my place to complain about that - either the mods will move it or I just don't post in it.
