The energy density of nuclear fusion fuel is 1 million times that of fossil fuels. That's the ONLY reason why people work on making fusion viable as an energy source. It would provide us with what we would see today as unlimited energy. A million times more energy for the same amount of matter, it better be cheaper than fossil fuel energy. What do you think happens to the price of a commodity that becomes virtually unlimited?

My backyard, YES I'd have them pay me royalties for the use of my land. Would you rather have a nuclear plant build on a square mile powering 300 square miles or 150 square miles of windmills having to do it.

So an 80-meter (262-foot) rotor would need to be 560 meters -- more than a third of a mile -- from adjacent turbines.

There's tons of costs involved with fusion beyond mere fuel though.

Fossil fuels are easy. You basically just dig or pump it up, and set it on fire.

The costs associated with just getting fusion to work are astronomical. Worldwide, easily a trillion dollars has ben sunk into fusion already, and we're not even really realistically close to recouping a single penny of our investment, and lot's more will need to be spent to make fusion work. Lots and lots more.

AGAIN, why would my personal use of electricity go up. What more power would I use at home? You mention I could leave all my lights on all the time, why would I want to do that? I wouldn't cook more, I wouldn't wash more cloths so I see no reason not to go after more nuclear power whether fusion or fission because it was cause this explosion of energy usage which I believe was your point.

Use your imagination. One thing that comes to mind is space travel. Wouldn't you like to book a trip to space, if it would cost the same as a transatlantic flight, instead of a million+? With fusion and the Fischer Tropsch process, or direct hydrogen generation trough electrolysis, this becomes a reality.

I'm not planning any space flights.....

Don't know how a fusion heat generating plant is going to get you into space. It could he used to create the electrify to produce hydrogen and oxygen for boosters I guess.
But it seemed you were saying this energy would not come about because it would he so cheap.

FUSION POWER now being touted to make Green New Deal Null& Void.

They have been saying this since the 1960's. There isn't enough energy on the planet to create enough fusion power to light a flashlight.

I think eventually science will crack it. I hope the projects mentioned in the thread produce good results. Anytime soon............I doubt I will ever see it and I'm five years behind you. But I do believe that if we play the Chairman of the Board through the intercoms of all the research labs we could progress much more quickly :clapping:

Oh I remember reading about it back in the 60's and 70's in Popular Science. Then the two guys who claimed they had discovered cold fusion which went the way of the guy who said he could power a car with just water.............

Fusion power has yet to create more energy than they consume and won’t anytime soon.
