I was saying that it is completely wrong and that a USA, where only Catholic churches are allowed to be built is very similar to not allowing same-sex marriage. The people would be allowed to practice their religion... They just wouldn't be allowed to have a mosque, unlike the Catholics. They're allowed to go to a church, it just has to be a Catholic one!

 

So in that case what is wrong with "civil unions?" It won't be an affront to normal straight families and couples, just like allowing Muslims to become Catholic Priests would be an affront to the Catholic church.

 

Because Catholics don't get anything more from the government than Muslims do. They don't get more rights than Muslims.

Civil Unions are a state thing. If you were to go through the trouble of making Civil Unions the same exact thing as marriage, why not just allow same-sex marriage?

If I ever become rich.......I am going to take millions of gays to canada, pay for them to get married there, and when they return to the US...there is nothing bigots can do. Under US law, married couples from most countries must be recognized as married couples. Unless one of them is underage, at least.

The equal protection argument is illegitimate. The argument that DOMA infringes upon the reserved power of marriage requirements is legitimate. We will see if this case makes it to the Supreme Court.
