A fact that eludes the apologists for Zionist fascism.

The fact is the occupation ended 7 years ago and the blockade ended last year. Gaza is on its own, all complaints should be directed to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

The sight of Obama on his knees before AIPAC last week was humiliating, if predictable. AIPAC has Obama by the balls. In my view, that doesn't mean to say the Israeli tail wags the US dog, rather it's an illustration of Obama's ineptitude, weakness and, most importantly, his inability and unwillingness to confront the Israel lobby in the US head on.

Privately, military strategists in the US understand very well that Israel is a strategic liability to to the US and Petraeus has publicly openly admitted as much. Nevertheless, the US unconditionally supports Israel come what may. US-Israel relations, therefore, is one of the great paradoxes of the modern age.

Arguably this can be explained by the mutually-reinforcing beneficial relationship that exists between AIPAC on the one hand, and US politicians whose very survival is dependent upon maintaining this cozy relationship of power, on the other.

The latter successfully lobby the US government on behalf of the former with the US electorate caught in the middle. In other words, as former UK ambassador Craig Murray suggested, "....The US taxpayer funds Israel, but Israel funds US politicians, thus Israel is simply a de facto pimp in the diversion of taxpayers money into politicians’ pockets."

    http://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archiv.../03/heartsick/

Nothing is likely to change, until or unless this mutually-beneficial relationship itself changes and it won't change until or unless the US public wise up to what this means in terms of the detrimental impacts it has to the US standing in the world and the potential damage to humanity in general.

More bullcrap and you know it. The occupation continues. Although the jailers are outside of the jailhouse, the prisoners still remain locked up inside it.

Is Russia occupying Georgia? Is Israel occupying Gaza?

The definition of occupation is the presence of occupiers inside the sh|thole, not outside it. And the border with Egypt has been open for a year now, you must have forgotten about it, right?

Yet more semantic and disingenuous bullcrap from you.

The Zionist fascists retain control of Gaza's airspace and coastline, and continues to be designated as an occupying power in the Gaza Strip by the UNSC and various human rights organizations.

As CNN reported, "The Israeli flag has been lowered over Gaza, symbolizing the end of... Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territory two weeks ahead of schedule."

There are NO grants today. Israel has repaid every loan and the US has never been called upon to fork over for a loan guarantee. The Cranston amendment has not been an appropriation item in any US budget since FY99

Israel has GREAT strategic value for US interests which is why the "headaches and elbows" are tolerated. this is notwithstanding some US military disagreeing with the cost/benefit of the relationship. Th vast majority of military leadership recognizes the strategic benefits that close alliance with Israel provides.

REgardless of US involvement with Israel, the arab/muslim world has had a long list of reasons and excuses to hate the US.

Ask philippino muslims about McArthur's handling of muslim rebels. Seems he promised to execute them and bury them in pig's fat. They quieted down quite nicely, but the viseral hatred remainded.

Let's not even talk about Iran or Iraq and US involvement there in the 50's which had absolutely nothing to do with Israel and everything to do with oil.

AIPAC, the visible arm of the global jewish conspiracy. Nevermind the power that anti-jews ascribe to them even tho they represent a mere .5% of the worlds population, and yet they seem to be able to buy the entire US congress for a few thousand bucks in campaign donations.

Ah yes, there can't be any other reason why a well financed and highly organized professional lobby group could have success in delivering their messages to lawmakers. They must be subverting the system.

Anyway we all know this because it says so right in the Protocols.

Unlike you, I'm not a paranoid conspiracy theorist and denialist. This is nothing to do with protocols whatever they are. This is just your fantasy.

"The US taxpayer funds Israel, but Israel funds US politicians, thus Israel is simply a de facto pimp in the diversion of taxpayers money into politicians’ pockets."

That'll be Craig Murray, respected former UK Ambassador to Uzbekistan - another one of your conspiracy theorists, presumably.

Israel has NEVER paid back a loan.. NEVER..

Jonsa.. this is far from over.. Israel has ruined both Aqufers and the Jordan River and destroyed the water table in the Jordan Basin..

When they finish with Gaza.. they will attack Lebanon and annex the land all the way to the Litani River.

Do you know what Labor Zionism is? They opened the door to the Soviets in the ME in 1948.

So when Congress promises Israel $9 billion in loan guarantees (as they did this year), that means the U.S. government accepts responsibility for up to $9 billion that Israel can then borrow from international creditors. And loans guaranteed by the Federal Reserve provide an additional benefit: The interest rates offered are much lower than they would be if Israel (or any small, debt-troubled nation) sought the loan without backers.

The $9 billion in loan guarantees (along with $1 billion in direct aid) comprise a special post-Gulf War II aid package, awarded to Israel on top of the $3 billion in other assistance that the United States gives annually. But with loan guarantees, it's never clear how much money is actually "given": In a perfect world, they wouldn't cost the United States a cent. Israel—or Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan, all of which snagged loan guarantees as postwar rewards—could borrow on the international markets, then pay off the loans completely, leaving the United States with no financial obligation.

But Israel has already received nearly $10 billion in loan guarantees from the United States since 1992, and while it has yet to default on any of those loans, this new round of guarantees is intended in part to help Israel pay off the old debt. Which means the United States could be stuck with a bill ranging anywhere from zero to $9 billion plus interest.

When borrowing on the United States' good credit, the Israeli government can use the money for any purpose. However, Congress attached a series of stipulations to the recent package, including one that reserves the right to reduce the guarantee amount to counterbalance any money Israel spends creating new settlements in contested territory. This caveat is exactly what Bush may use now to pressure Israel to cease construction on its "security perimeter"—if the caveat is employed, Israel would find itself fully responsible for part of its loan (and thus with higher interest rates). And because Israel's annual revenues top out at $40 billion, any tweaks to a $9 billion aid package could shake up the country's economy.

Why would he read a nine-year-old article (Aug. 6, 2003)? Do you think that nothing has changed in the interim? Is that the most relevant information you can bring to the issue?

At least let us engage in factual discussion.

Read this from the Congressional REsearch Service of the library of Congress
Bottom of Page 8 has the info you need under the heading "Israel's debt to the US".

ruined the water table? ruined the Jordan river? Please supply links to this regional disaster.

    You mean again?

Uh, what has this got to do with the discussion. Nasser courted the commies and even got help in trying to destroy Israel.

You seem to like the non sequitar lately.

You know the old stereotypes of the jews.

You think for a moment that these ancient moneylenders would default on a loan? Never in history have the done so and I bet they'd even sell some tanks to pay off any unmet obligation.

this article is obviously incorrect, because "tweaks" to the package have been made, specifically to reduce interest payments and 8 years after this article, Israel's economy hasn't suffered because of it. Other facts perhaps, but not because of its indebtedness to anyone.

You should read more credible sources of EXACTLY how the complex financial relationship with Israel works and has worked to mutual benefit.

    Wrong.

You are the one that can't seem to get his facts in order, just repeating lies long misproven.

I will always stand to be corrected. You on the other hand seem to feel you are never mistaken - a sure sign that you are.

Uh, yep that'll be it, like the time you said the actions of the Nazis and the Zionist fascist's can't be compared. When Margot and I pointed out to you, well, actually, they can because collective punishment is all about degrees, you went all quiet.

Oh, and the time you said the Zionist fascists weren't engaged in a policy of starving the Gazan's which is a component of the said punishment, despite my citing the evidence?

The same far fetched language of another S. African living in Spain......
The Guardian is an anti Semitic paper!
Catherine Essoyan would not be able to pass a thread through the hole of a needle.

Gaza is part of Israel and the people there are squatters, in fact dangerous squatters armed with dangerous missiles.

Israel is keeping this vermin alive because of our water, our fuel, our food and our cement... if elected PM of Israel this vermin would be cleansed from Jewish soil in a jiffy!

It's known to be one of the most virulently anti-israel papers on the planet, probably worse that Al-Jazeera. And a huge number of their readers are anti-semites as is clear from the antisemitic messages that are routinely posted on the Guardian's web site and tolerated by Guardian moderators.

Websites are different from printed press. As we all know with moderation and control online is very poor "no offense to this forum"

But the paper itself, any proof?
