    Fuel prices affect presidential popularity.

Are you suggesting we sell part of our SPR to Germany? One major difference between the US and other countries is gas is usually own by private companies rather than nationally. Unless you want the president to sell our strategic reserve there is nothing he can or should be doing. Germany can already compete on the world market to purchase that. I think we already ship close to 75% of our natural gas to Europe.

Yep. Developed in Germany in the early 1900’s and used extensively by Nazi Germany in WW2.

They are already increasing their usage of coal for electricity generation. Percentage of electricity from coal increased from 27% of total output in 2020 to 32% of total in 2021. Might as well make fuel out of it as well. :)

Not going to happen in this world. Politics comes into everything.
Balance of trade, trade agreements, etc.

Germany: On second thought, maybe we won't shut down our remaining nuclear power plants

Finally we see some encouraging signs that the fine German People are beginning to see reality and making some steps toward much more sensible decisions.

Germany ignored Trump's prescient warnings that continued near total dependence on Russian gas was very dangerous. Germany laughed off his concerns and now "is so heavily dependent on Russian gas that there was no way to manage the approaching winter without it. So Germany was taking a firm stand against the Russian invasion but also sending millions and millions of Euros to Russia every months for energy."

Then "Russia suddenly announced it was" cutting the supply of gas in the pipeline by 60%.

"While this gas crisis was brewing, Germany made plans to ramp up coal burning as a substitute for the lost gas supply. And that led many people to suggest that maybe the country should reconsider decommissioning its remaining nuclear plants this year."

Finally they are reconsidering keeping the Nuke plants going, expanding natural gas drilling in the North Sea and heating with wood this winter. I wish them the best. Snow falls early in parts of Germany.
