Dr Robert Epstein, behavioral research psychologist of 40 years, has been studying what is basically the manipulation powers of Google and other content platforms for the last 7 years. Yesterday he testified before the Senate about his observations, theories, and conclusions specifically relative to the conglomerates persistent and large scale ability to influence elections through a variety of methods.

This man is not Conservative nor a Republican and by his own admission has been center, center-left, and liberal throughout his life. But he is also quite honest and dedicated to his professional and gives powerful evidence demonstrating just how vulnerable our elections are to the manipulative efforts of mega-companies which exert huge control over what we read, what we see, and what we talk about.

We just came off a nearly two year long frenzy over the efforts of a few Russian Facebook ads because we were told that the single most important challenge facing our nation was election tampering. Well here is election tampering on a MASSIVE SCALE and its coming from within. Why is this not the headline story on every single news outright?

I'm including a video of his time with Sen Cruz, a link to the story, a supporting story, and a sentate.gov link to his submitted written testimony.

Election tampering = altering votes, rigging machines, disappearing ballots.

Election tampering =/= saying **** on the internet.

In the information age where companies that hone the focus of hundreds of millions of people every single day are actively developing technologies to manipulate what those people see, hear, read, and talk about, in an incredibly one sided manner while operating under outdated protections that technically shouldn't extend to publishers ... we need to update our definition of "election tampering".

I see you’ve gone back to peddling the myth that Russian interference amounted to buying a few Facebook ads.

I thought it was noteworthy that the only part of the testimony that the Trumpischer Boerbachter chose to excerpt was a brief exchange with Ted Cruz, and not any of the other testimony.

And the Russians clearly read Dr Epstein’s paper. Because he described to Cruz exactly what they did through Google and FB in 2016.

But Cruz isn’t the least bit concerned that the intelligence agency of a foreign power might do that. After all, it already has. And the people who benefitted from it want you to look the other way. They also want you to not notice that they aren’t doing anything to stop it from happening again, other than trying to blame the platforms the Russians used. But they didn’t get around to this particular campaign until AFTER the social media companies began watching for Russian fake news sites and banning hate groups.

Now, all the folks who benefitted from the Russian campaign want to preserve the Freedom of Speech of the Russians FSB and the network of right wing 501c4 groups that prey on the public while hiding who they are and what their agenda is. The GOP likes that.

Google gave at least 2.6 million votes to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, “through bias and search results.” He stressed that was the lowest number.

Throws the "Hillary won the popular vote" out the window.

not hardly, wishful thinking on your part though, he is just making up a number

even if it were true, would be offset by Russian ads that helped Trump get more votes

of Course I think the Republican Comey was the one that really threw the election for Trump

    Google is anti free speech

    As is Facebook and Twitter

They want to selectively choose who can speak and what they are allowed to say

    Interesting, very interesting.

Policy Director at Facebook was Nancy Pelosi's Chief of Staff

The head of algorithm policy at Facebook worked for Hillary at The State Department

The person in charge of privacy policy at Facebook used to work for Al Franken, before he worked for Senator Bonoff, before he worked for Congressman Oberstar.

The Director in charge of "countering hate and extremism" at Facebook came from the Clinton Foundation

The person at Facebook who currently "oversees programs on countering hate speech and promoting pluralism", and "develops internal third party education and drives thought leadership on hate speech and content moderation" was one of Obama's policy advisers at The White House

YouTube's Global Content Policy Lead previously worked at the DNC

The person in charge of developing the careers of YouTube creators was the Director of Video for Obama

The Public Policy Manager for Global Elections at Facebook was on Obama's National Security Council (Director for Russia) before he was a Special Advisor for Joe Biden? What kind of election policy do you think he will advocate for at Facebook leading into 2020

I first became aware of the power that Google and Facebook have to influence public opinion after watching a documentary called "The Creepy Line". It is alarming, and the public needs to be aware of it.

It looks like the Trumpischer Boerbachter accomplished its objective.

It fed a meme to a Trumpster(s) who don’t read past the headline, and NEVER look behind the story or the curtain.

Nothing in Epstein’s testimony says what you claim.

But you’re probably going to bellow at the bar and on your FB feed that 2.6 million voters voted for Clinton because of Google, based on nothing.

This is how conning a receptive, low information, easily played audience looks like.

IT isn’t a coincidence that now that the Russian program to influence voters using American social media companies has been described in intimate detail, the Trump noise machine has manufactured a counter narrative that attacks the social media platforms the Russians used for attempting to prevent the Russians (or any other fake groups) from using their platforms for manipulation.

The GOP and Trump WANT the manipulation.

They want to make sure that Google FB etc don’t prevent it from happening again.

The GOP has worked for three years to make sure that no laws or regulations are enacted to protect us form foreign interference.

So now the new right wing line is to defend the rights of the con men and spies to con the Trump base.

Google may be feeding data to the chinese military that it wont share with the US military

    https://theminnesotasun.com/2019/07...s-google-for-choosing-china-over-us-military/

Tech billionaire Peter Thiel said Sunday that the FBI and CIA should investigate Google for allegedly cooperating with the Chinese military over U.S. interests.

Thiel, one of the most high-profile Trump supporters in the tech industry, criticized Google’s work with the Chinese during a speech to the inaugural National Conservatism Conference Sunday evening in Washington, D.C., Axios reported

You cant possibly believe the trump/russia conspiracy theory after it was debunked by your own man in the Deep State ?

And now you want to extend it to trump/russia/GOP collusion

    What took you so long?

This “documentary” didn’t appear until late 2018, and then, only as part of the right wing campaign to attack social media companies (once they got caught using these same companies to spread fake news, false memes, and Russian propoganda).

Anyone with a FB page could see that growing power on their screen ten years earlier. I was certainly aware of it.

I saw how right wingers were gleefully parroting Russian propoganda right here in this forum and others as far back as 2013.

The New York Times first wrote about the Russian fake news spread through social media companies in early 2015.

    Where have you been?
