And no I'm not working a corner at night! LOL! xD My second job is a night job, like late at night 7 to possibly 4 or 5 am job. But damn does it pay well! I really love it too. I'd make it my full time job if I could. Work all night, sleep in the day and have the afternoons to myself. Anyways here is the website for the company I am working for. http://dd247.com/ I work with a driving partner, who is actually my ex-boss and good friend (I say ex-boss because she's working as an ASM at another store location now). How it works is she picks me up in her truck and we get a dispatched location of a person or people to pick up and we drive to them. Then my partner drives that person/people in their car home and I follow in her truck. We both get paid an automatic minimum of $20 each run (or more if the client tips more, like $50 is my biggest tip so far). If the client cancels on us we still get paid a minimum of $25 each. Basically we do this all night and my partner expenses out the cost of gas and then splits up the rest of the money. Basically it's no cost to me since I'm not using my vehicle ( the only cost to me is just my sanity from lack of sleep I guess). On average I have been making $80-$150 a night. Really it's great. I just love it. I feel like I can finally pay off my debts, my credit card, my student loan, and then start saving for a new car and then a house and maybe save for a vacation! And omg you guys, the CARS these people drive. My partner has gotten to drive a brand new Lamborghini and these people usually drive a really nice Lexus or Mercedes. Man these people are filthy freaking rich. We're just hoping to land the big one soon and pick up some millionaire from a casino who just won and tips us $1000 or more each. That would be amazing. 'Course we're probably just getting our hopes up on that one. lol!
That's why I have a partner with me. I am sure there is some risk involved but I am willing to take the risk. Most of the people we pick up are already members of the service and the owner knows them personally. We rarely get one time drives.
Thats great I was worried , lol. It sounds like a good job seriously- I hope you get your million dollar fair too then.
Lack of sleep would never be worth it to me. It is really not good for a body. Debts? Pfui. Just ignore them. Problem solved
Haha million dollar very doubtful! But I asked the owner what the biggest tip anyone got was and she said, "Ok this is very, very rare, highly unlikely to ever happen, but I had a team waiting for a wealthy guy outside a casino for 10 hours. He won some tables in the casino and tipped his drivers $8700." I was like WTF!! I hope I get some nice tips soon! lol Last night we went out and I made about $65 doing two runs. The last run was really long though and we made two stops (we went about 160 miles there, to the drops offs and then back), so the owner is going to talk to them about additional charges for distance and multiple dropoffs so we might get more money for that one.
The lack of sleep isn't so bad, I'm dealing with it. lol I'd rather be debt free to be honest. I have $1200 in credit card debt and about $9000 in student loans. Once I manage to pay those off (hopefully during the busy season November-May.) I'm going to start saving for a new car because I am driving a 12 year old car now that has broken down multiple times already.
What did you study that left you with those loans? It sounds like it hasn't paid for itself if you're stuck driving rich people around. That's getting to be all too typical these days, of course. I have larger debts of the same sort than those you've listed.. I've never been too encouraged to pay them when they charge exorbitant amounts of interest and fees, though. Why should I pay hundreds or thousands of dollars that I had never borrowed in the first place? Screw them. Get the new car first
It would be nice if you could offer other services like chauffeuring and secure auto storage and cleaning etc....
I went to dental assisting trade school and it didn't pan out for me at all. Part of it was me becoming discouraged after constant rejection in the job field and the other was that it wasn't what I really wanted to do. I was pushed into it by my dad who wouldn't leave me alone until I found some kind of career. I graduated with honors and a 3.8 GPA but that wasn't enough for any of the places I applied to sadly... lol I might get a new car first. Pay my credit card off and then start saving for a new car and put my student loan on the back burner again. =P
I can totally relate to your school and job experiences - only the details have played out differently. I eventually decided I would translate German after years of uncertainty, going between dead-end jobs and school for other kinds of study. I quit the last factory I was at, went back to school to finish a degree majoring in German language specifically, and here I am. I'm sure I could be doing better living in the German-speaking world than here, but thanks to the wonders of the internet I can at least work on a freelance basis from anywhere on earth. It seems you have yet to figure out what you really want to do, eh? Oh, and screw the credit card. Student loans are harder to get away from, but credit cards, aside from being a ripoff, can't really do much to you if you ignore them It's not like having the stupid government on your case, where normal laws don't really apply to them....
I want to do 3D animation and be an author. The school for 3D animation is very expensive, however becoming an author is much more feasible, I just have little confidence in my writing skills. Well I like to have good credit to be honest. lol I would like to be able to get a loan for a car and purchase a home someday. xD - - - Updated - - - Hehe, unfortunately my boss only started this business a year and a half ago and it has yet to reach outside Arizona. I'm sure once she gets more word out and gets more contracts like she's getting with a local casino (removes liability from casino) that the business will be a lot bigger and move out of state. =)
Ah yeah, writing would be fun! Again I can relate - I would also like to write, but in my case I have inexperience and laziness working against me! I think I'd go for writing fantasy fiction of some kind - what about you? True, true. I'm well beyond the point where I could get loans or credit cards. Le sigh. It means I have to save if I want something spendy and awesome rather than get a loan. But hey, didn't you say you were saving or going to save for that car anyway? See, who needs credit? All it takes is wise money management.
That is pretty good business idea, also. I know many people won’t call a taxi because they don’t want to leave their vehicle overnight in a bar parking lot.
Same. Actually I have been trying to write this one novel since I was 16. It's based on Greek mythology and takes place in an ancient world with some technology/steampunk/airships. It's definitely fantasy, adventure like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. =)
Mine would range from Forgotten Realms-style to something more unique, meant to try and explore ideas from a new perspective that might not really be comparable to anything existing, at least going by what I'm familiar with to date. Steampunk is pretty bad-ass, though I do like the themes, from the styles of dress to having wood & brass fixtures and appliances. Airships are an awesome idea, though I suppose only dirigibles are actually physically feasible. Do you want help with writing that story? I'd be happy to look at anything you have written and offer feedback.
There is all kinds of 3D animation, now it is becoming part of manufacturing especially in R & D with the advent of 3D 'printers.' Not to mention the motion picture industry, gaming, etc. I would think you could find some kind of in-road. NEVER give up on your passion. If you haven't already got it, you can find 3d software to play with. Good luck! Stay safe....
Are you bonded? What happens if you wreck one of these expensive cars you are driving home for the inebriated client? Are you personally liable fot this. It's a good idea on paper, but you always have to think of the worst case scenario. For example you wreck the car in an accident... Who incurs the liability? Does the client sign some form of waiver? Just curious. Whenver I leave full-time work and become semi-retired I used to think about transporting small aircraft for various clients who purchase them ...in fact the Weather channel has a show about one company that does this. Frequently these are trans-oceanic flights...kind of exciting and challenging which is what I love to do....money is secondary.... Long story short...to even remotely consider doing this, I would need to be bonded and insured and this isn't cheap to do on your own... which brings us full circle...I'm curious as to what the liability factor is for you or your boyfriend as the "transporter" of the client's vehicle..
I'm actually not sure on that one. I am doing some runs with the owner of the company tomorrow so I'll have to ask her. Although I rarely ever drive these people's cars myself. My partner (she's not my bf btw, lol) is the one driving their cars for them. I usually just follow her in in her truck.
