I rescued a cat from a family member about four years ago...a family member I rarely see. I was at her house and found this cat in a rabbit cage under a desk in a back room...her back is crooked from living in that little cage.. she's been with me for four years and won't let me pick her up, she will come and stand beside me to be petted sometimes...most of the time she spends by herself in another room.. but about six months ago, that family member came by for a few minutes, this cat BURST out of the bedroom, ran to her and started crying and rubbing on her. It flat broke my heart...she apparently remembered this woman and thought she was here to take her 'home'.. and would you believe the woman wouldn't give her the time of day, wouldnt' even talk to her or lean down to pet her...poor kitty. (ok, maybe SOME cats are like women with low self esteem...)
Gawd, your story is heart-breaking...... There's some people who should never have an animal and this woman is one of them - they have no compassion. To have shoved that car in a cage and leave it there until the back went crooked is sick..... I hope your cat will start to warm up and end up curled up on your lap.... you're a good person, Injest .... keep loving that cat and she'll come around...
Just remember, you don't own your pets. Your pets own you. I had a cat a long time ago that acted so much like a dog that it wasn't even funny. I used to play fetch with him, rub his belly until his leg jerked, he'd follow me around the way that a dog does. One time he even caught a frisbee in his mouth when I tossed it at him. I loved that cat so much, and he loved me. Ironically, he was my sister's cat, but he had so much fun with me that we used to just hang out together like old buddies. My sister named him Elvis because at the time she worshiped Elvis Presley. I still miss that little guy. We had to give him away when we moved into a new house and the landlady wouldn't let us have any pets.
You're one of those people who allows their cat to walk around? May I allow my dog to freely prance into your yard and take a dump like your cat probably does to other people's yards? God, do I hate cats! And we have so many roaming our streets! Here's my plan: whenever you find a stray cat with a litter of kittens, fed them to a snake.
They did a study of cat habits in an English village, with GPS and camera collars. When their natural ranges overlapped, some of them established a shift system to avoid each other! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...octurnal-habits-of-cats-caught-on-camera.html
Sounds like they realized that you were really a dog person, not a cat person. - - - Updated - - - Cats are pretty much butchers of any smaller critter around. Feral cats should be exterminated. House cats should stay inside.
I had a male cat bring his girlfriend cat into my home. They looked alike- I thought he had cloned himself it was creepy. We shoo'd them away and they took off into the night - our cat had a dirty look on his face. They never returned. We always said they eloped.
I got a female cat from the humane society for a couple of reasons the biggest ones being fewer health issues like urinary tract problems and female cats were supposed to be less "clingy". Well she is fourteen and hasn't had a single health problem in her entire life but she is definitely clingy. Its gotten to the point where she will wake me up once or twice every night for playtime and I simply cannot say no to that meow.
When I was in high school I was out with some friends one. We were all getting ready to get back in the car and head back home when I saw this little black kitten. I walked over to him and he just looked up at me and meowed. I called up different friends and even went door to door to see if anyone would like to give him a home. No one wanted him and since we already had 2 I didn't think my mom would really take him in. Anyway there I was, 16 and still coming home with a stray animal. My mom opened the door just looked at me and just said bring him in. He's with her in Texas now but he was a great addition to the family. The other two cats might disagree but he's such loving and friendly animal. He would follow you everywhere and curl up with you as often as possible. When he would get real happy and content he would start to drool too. Never seen a cat do that. And you had to pet him when he wanted to eat or drink. He would chase you and cry until you did. Unfortunately it's been about 3 years since I've seen him and one of the other cats passed away last year and the other is about 17 years old and his health is declining. I miss all three very much. Just got a new cat though about 2 months back. Their was a pet adoption going on and I ended up taking him home. We're still getting used to eachother's personality but we mostly got it down. Still waiting for him to catch on to the meaning "no" though. But he's my buddy and I'm glad to have him around.
A few years ago we had a cat named Jade who didn't seem to bond with any of us. She seemed to tolerate me because she liked my room (quietest place in the home). After a year we adopted two kittens who were very young (we had to bottle feed them as people took them away from their mother) and she seemed to take to one of them, which led to the smallest being ignore. Eventually she was sick of them too. We found her a different home because she didn't seem too happy with us.
I seriously don't think cats are always domesticatable. I think that they are at heart wild animals that can be socialized. Dogs, in general, orient their activities towards humans. Cats, not so much.
