    Snow isn't ice..

"Glaciers in the Himalayas are melting at an “exceptional” rate, according to new research that shows the massive ice sheets in the region have shrunk 10 times faster in the past four decades than during the previous seven centuries.

The research, published Monday in the journal Scientific Reports, found that mass ice loss from nearly 15,000 ice sheets in the Himalayas is especially rapid compared with other parts of the world.

The Himalayan mountains are also referred to as the third pole because they hold the world’s third-largest amount of glacier ice, following Antarctica and the Arctic. The ice melt threatens agriculture and water supply for millions of people in South Asia, the report said, and will contribute to rising sea levels that threaten coastal communities across the world."

Christ on a pair of crutches.

Oh I completely agree — I definitely think we need to address the amount of plastics we use, micro plastics are being found in everything on earth and impacting many environments.

Yes, yes, well hopefully we'll survive the deadly covid plague and wait for the climate extinction one. :)

Snow is not ice until it is. That’s why I specifically included a link explaining the glacial depletion is mainly caused by black carbon deposits, not warming as you believe.

Where do you think glacial ice comes from? Rain? Maybe heavy dew? It comes from snow. That’s why I pointed out SNOW that turns into GLACIERS is increasing across much of the Himalayas.

Now let’s look at YOUR SOURCE. It unsurprisingly agrees with what I stated. That black carbon is the primary driver of ice loss, not warming alone. From your source:

Now the interesting question. Can you tell PF what percentage of water in river systems like the Ganges (that originate in the Himalayas) is actually from melting glacial ice? Start with the Ganges. What percentage of water that ends up in the Ganges each year came from melting glacial ice. Then tell us what percentage comes from melting snow. Go…

    Impressive.

Most of the glaciers are disappearing, and all you have is running away and hiding from the obvious.

Read your link. It confirms what I said about black carbon being the main culprit in the Himalayas, not warming.

The glaciers you claimed would harm people by reducing water supplies if they were gone contribute only 1% to water flows in the Ganges! Snowmelt not yet turned into glacial ice accounts for 47% of water in the Ganges. When glaciers are gone the volume of water in the Ganges will be imperceptibly less or possibly more based on increased snowfall I already linked to.

Why didn’t you answer the question I asked? You brought up the idea there would be NO water when glaciers were gone from the Himalayas. Yet you had no idea less than 1% of water in the Ganges comes from glacial melt. Glacial melt accounts for 1% of water in the Brahmaputra basin. Glacial melt accounts for 3% in the Indus basin. Only 2% in the Syr Darya basin. And 8% in the Amu Darya basin. So we see science tells us glacial melt is essentially irrelevant to water supplies to people in river basins originating in the Himalayas.

Next time try an argument based on facts. I wish you guys all spun up about climate would not make a mockery of science. It makes people think climate change isn’t important when it is. But we must use valid arguments based on science to solve problems. Not nonsense like no glaciers in the Himalayas will significantly affect water availability to the people in those watersheds.

CNN was pounding the Covid story to beat the band when I worked out last night. In big red letters "Health crisis"

Are people going to learn there is something dishonest about an ideology that constantly claims we are in a crisis or emergency?

It's both, and it's painfully obvious it's both. You are starting to see metal roofs built across rivers in India, to keep the sun off them.

The reason they are building roofs to protect water is simple, they have to. And it's going to get worse, a lot worse.

You need excuses that, you know, work... not that there are any. But your comedy is entertaining, esp. your assumption that you understand.

Sorry, I’m only interested in science. Not your opinions or ad hominem.

    Let’s try analogy.

Yesterday I decreased the flow volume of your sinks, showers, and other water taps in your house by 0.9%. Why are you not complaining to me about the change? Are you dehydrated? Lawn dying? Soap in your eyes?

There is no evidence flows will decrease in this century. But there is evidence they will not decrease and may increase.

Why do your opinions conflict with those of science?

It is the subject of the thread. The dishonest claim that hotter than normal weather this summer is proof that man made(white man made) is real.

Well I’ve presented peer reviewed studies to back every post and claim.

You just resorted to appeal to stone fallacy when faced with science.

Why do your opinions conflict with science?

The scientists in a discipline determine what a science says, not internet kooks.

I don't think anyone can slow it down. Some try, but they won't succeed. It's too late. Whether humanity survives at all is an intriguing question. But the ultimate collapse of human society is indeed coming. :(

So you just posted an Internet kook as evidence to dispute peer reviewed studies? Interesting.

Your link is irrelevant because I’m on record in multiple places on PF clearly stating AGW is real and should be addressed.

    Have any more fallacy?

Every (radical) change also brings opportunities. But we humans are very attached to what we have achieved so far. This is especially true for conservatives.

We will lose a lot from global warming. But what will we win? Can that make up for the loss?

Sure, but these oils only exist in your imagination.

The Dutch suffered a lot under Nazi occupation.

Claiming that today's Germans are Nazis, is a stupid lie like claiming that the Ukrainian government is fascist. The former is historical ignorance. The latter is nothing more than dumb Kremlin propaganda.

This chart compares climate to non-climate causes of death over 100 years. Seems to be a good trick to belittle the negative effects of global warming.

But what the hell do drug-abuse deaths have to do with climate-related deaths?
    Think of yourself, bro. :)

In my part of the world, as the globe has warmed, we have cooled summer temps by about 1°C, increased precipitation by as much as 35% in some areas, and increased food production enormously.

A model for success —but there is no interest in using the tools we used. None. Any collapse will be a conscious choice because known mitigations were not adopted.

No denial from me mate .. Over last 25 years CO2 emissions gone from 22 Billion tons/year to 36 billion tons/year .. and keeps rising due to the Obama-Biden-Blue environmental policy "Not in my back yard- Dump it in the Ocean" also resulting in a large increase to Ocean Pollution .. which .. IMEO - is an even greater and more imminent risk than warming.
