I am Fatima originally from Syria. Been living in New York for a few years. Hopefully I can have civil debates here and share my opinion on a wide range of topics!

Too crowded and too dirty. Shocked at how dirty it is. Would've expected a city like NY to be very clean and organized, considering it's worldwide popularity.

Why would you support an Alawite heretic?

The people in New York City are not Americans except in a technical and narrow legal sense.

Welcome. I've never been to New York. And just never have been motivated to visit. Just doesn't sound like my type of town.

Look forward to hearing from you.

NY is a hugely liberal town as is SF. Both are cesspools. Always have been. I walked the Streets of SF in the 60s and it was filthy then and it was downright dangerous in certain ethnic areas if you happen to be the 'wrong' race. (and I don't mean just black). Panhandlers, the typical City weirdo's the crush of people all around you,

The lights, the cornucopia of experiences, food, ethnic diversity, not to mention higher wages, one can experience in a City is what some would call a life enhancement. The filth is tolerated and in a sense, gives 'cred' to the struggle for wealth and power taking place where many minorities and ethnic/religious people have traditionally melded into another facet of the American lifestyle. It is not for the weak of heart or spirit.

It's not perfect, it's not clean, it is sometimes dangerous but, living in a big American City has many rewards as well.

It doesn't matter if Assad was Sunni, the FSA and co would still be trying to remove him. They need him gone so 'Israel' can have its way with Iran and Hezbollah.

If he was allied with Saudi and Qatar, they'd protect him like they are doing al-Khalifah in Bahrain right now.

Quite frankly, the alignments in the Middle East and North Africa are so fluid they remind me of the Thirty Years War.

Modern American leftists can't understand what is happening in MENA because they are only attuned to obtaining domestic political control. They don't realize that American foreign policy and national security policy are in free fall in MENA. The phenomenon is truly astonishing to observe.

Obama is working at cross purposes in MENA. The only safe thing for him to do is total nonintervention and withdrawal. Otherwise he will compound his predicament.

I refer to Obama. Implicit in that is reference to the USA. It's just difficult for me to be direct on this point.

That all depends on what areas you were in. It's not like the ME is so clean!

You make it sound as if blue states are the only ones with filth - I've seen some parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana that would make your skin crawl. There isn't a state in the United States that doesn't have its nasty little niches, but there are also beautiful areas in each state.

I support secular Syria. Anyone who threatens secular Syria is my enemy, even if that person is my brother or sister.

Dear Fatiima, Salaam wa'alykum wa marhaba.
I have visited Syria 5 or 6 times ( before the civil war ), trust me it was quite dirty.
I don't know if you have been there in the last few years .... I can compare some parts of it to Gaza.
    I'm not talking about Damascus.
Why are you in New york ? Take a plane and go join Assad's army.

No need to insult me! My home city got destroyed by the terrorists. Darayya is now a pile of a rubble.

It is not Assad's Army. It is the Syrian Arab Army. Sunni soldiers make up the majority of SAA. I see you are trying to cause unnecessary sectarian tension.
