Doesn't matter what history says the Union soldiers were dying for, those men and boys on the front line were INDEED fighting for slave rights to be FREE men!

    Politics be damned!

I would never pretend that southern conservatives weren’t responsible for fighting to keep slavery. It was totally reprehensible what they did. You would agree fighting to keep slavery was reprehensible, right?

They claimed otherwise, and did not believe they were fighting as Americans, any more than the Patriots in 1776 believed they were fighting as subjects of the Crown. And since the 14th Amendment, which is the part of the Constitution birthright citizenship stands on, didn't exist yet, they were NOT Americans until their states were re-admitted to the Union.

Since Southron conservatives were fools going back to the Revolutionary War - and haven't improved since - I feel quite comfortable with who leads in that area... [IMG]

Aw, you're just saying that because your script says to. Who can forget that dodo playing Patton riding the tank, or John Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia? What about Shrill's callous indifference to the very deaths her incompetence had caused?

Always? Bogus claim. Cannot be substantiated much less believed. Use a little Hillary Clinton Disk Drive Wiper. Clear away your misconceptions.

Progress toward what? Fiscal doom and a side-order of apocalypse-meets-the-sweet-meteor-of-death?

I embrace the fact the South has been reactively regressive throughout its history. Party affiliations change, but the regressive streak is constant.

Name a single social issue where regressives have held their ground and prevented society from changing. Go ahead - I'll wait...

The left-thinkers simply cannot accept any view but what they already have in mind. keeps you from grasping the big picture, from growing in you understanding and comprehension of the world and the people who make it. You argue a moot point, over semantics- as if there is something to be won chasing this.

Regardless of the date of the amendment, they were primarily American born and American citizens, their attempt to secede failed, and they remained American citizens.
The people of chop thought they were an independent nation too- but as some began to say, treat them as such.... they quickly backed up to say they weren't trying to secede.

If you must nit-pick, choose something meaningful.

How can you lose a war on poverty if you also control the money to end it...unless you didn't mean it?

Actually, it was blue until around 1993. It turned solid red in 1996, along with Texas and several other former Confederate states.
