    LMAO!!!

    Excellent post...

Extra pts. for the bolded part...

That said, I watched "The Loved Ones" last night...

I really liked it a lot...

It was real off-screen gory, like, it lets you know what's getting ready to happen to a character, but, you don't see it...

You only see the movements of the antagonists, and, the victim's reaction...

I like when movies do that...

It doesn't make it so dependent on gore, like Hostel was...

    Really good movie, though...

    Worth the watch...

But, they are all horror sub-genres, though...

Just to expand the discussion out more...what horror movie would you like to see a sequel (or remake) for?

Greatest genre? Definitely not. I have enjoyed some horror films but I'm not seriously going to argue that they're the "greatest genre", because they're purely about entertainment and violence for violence sake, they aren't art (and weren't meant to be art), just easy entertainment that doesn't require too much attention span, like action films, and many comedy films.

That's not to say that people "shouldn't watch them". There's lots of films I love that aren't art, some of my favorite ones aren't critically the best ones either, but I'm not seriously going to try to argue that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a better film than, say, The Godfather. Horror flicks aren't even in the same league as cinema like that. I enjoy fast food on occasion, but I'm not going to argue that it's 5 star cuisine either.

    Phantasm...

    Hellraiser (in work, I believe)...

That's just two right off the top of my head...

    I'll think of more...

With regard to remakes, I think Platinum Dunes did an excellent job with the reboots of Nightmare, Friday the 13th, and Chainsaw Massacre...

Not arguing your point, but, whatever one would consider the "grestest genre" is a matter of opinion, which, by definition, can't be wrong...

I, personally, enjoy watching horror movies more than any other genre...

I mean, I've known people who thought The Godfather was boring and don't like it for that reason...

I don't agree with that analysis, but, that's their opinion...

I wasn't trying to rip on horror films, just point out that critically they're purely an entertainment genre, not art.

The Godfather isn't my favorite film either, there's films that I enjoy more than The Godfather, but I'd of course admit that they didn't require the talent and cinematic genius that the Godfather did.

I would say TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is as good and successful a film as THE GODFATHER. It's basically a perfect film, for what it is, like AMADEUS.

I need to see THE WOMAN IN BLACK. Been hearing good things from everyone about that one.

    I know...

I was just pointing out that it's a matter of opinion what genre one feels is the best...

The Godfather is a great film...

However, Pulp Fiction is my all-time favorite, and, I like itfar more than The Godfather...

But, they're different genres, and, require different elements to reach their core audiences effectively...

Horror films require different elements throughout different films, as there are different audiences for different sub-genres inside of horror...

Zombie films, for instance, require a lot of gore, but, they also require building of suspense, to keep you interested...

A film like Hostel, on the other hand, I don't find the least bit suspenseful, and, for the most part, the film relies on extreme gore i.e. how much worse can the next victim be kill tortured/killed off...

And, that's fine & dandy, but, as far as horror, it's not the kind of film that draws me in for a second viewing...

    Saw is a good example...

The gore was a big part of Saw, but, for the first two movies, there was a phenomenal plot, and the twist at the end of the first one, particularly, was one of the best in movie history, IMO...

I would definitely be interested in a Phantasm sequel or remake for sure. What actor would you think could successfully pull off the role of "The Tall Man"?

Yeah I remember hearing they were doing this. Should be interesting...

I agree...the F13 remake was very well done. I would be interested in seeing a sequel to that...

I would like to see a remake of The Dark Night of the Scarecrow

I'd be up for that. The original is quite good, though very tame and feels like a TV movie. Would love to see something more edgy, it's a great story and Larry Drake was awesome.

I think James Cromwell would do a pretty good job in that role. He would definitely be my first pick

Yeah it did get scrapped. Hopefully they will rethink that path again though.

    I agree...that movie looks killer

The original or that Rob Zombie remake?

Never seen the 1st Halloween, saw a few of the many sequels when they were airing on cable and never cared for them, though the original might likely be better - that's how it often is with sequels in general.

He's certainly got the appearance, with a little more hair...

I'd be open to a sequel, if it's done correctly...

I just wouldn't want them to take what was an excellent reboot, and, turn it into a caricature of itself, like they did with the original franchise...

Particularly after New Line picked it up...

Think Jason Takes Manhattan, or, Jason X...

    :puke:

    I can't wait for it!!!

    You are correct Krypt...

    Go check it out Cricket...

    It's great...

I can't wait to see it after me & the peoples shut the yard haunt down that night...

And, mentioning the Zombie reboot, the first one, I enjoyed...

The second one, was absolute crap...
