    Well good for you.

I cannot imagine the sacrifice of thought necessary to become a Priest.

It's more of a sacrifice of pride. Although I still have plenty of pride I had to sacrifice a lot of it to become teachable, and having been taught, understanding becomes easier. Understanding does not come easily to people who cling to their misconceptions and prejudices. You don't check your brain at the door, you had better be prepared to use it.

Indeed, given the abysmal failure to defend those "prophecies"!

Unbelievable. You fulfill the prophecy with your own words and you don't have the self awareness to see it.

If there is a God/God's, He/they do not need our acceptance or belief in them to exist

I just have another one this morning on the way to work. I can tell you more about it. I am so tired right now, barely can type, may be on my day off.

How are the copies different enough to change what the Gospel actually says? (Hint: they're not.)

    You might as well be....

There are,... basically,... a dozen different church organizations existing, plus seven fundamentalist Pentecostal Church groups.
They do differ in what they say about scripture to some extent.
But the Muslims are also fractured, ... especially into to different groups, i.e.; Shiite vs Sunni.
Judaism is divided into seven branches, too.

That are ALL awaiting the Lion of Judah,... who will open the Book which is sealed: (Rev 5:5).

Science now confirms what Genesis says,... in spite that the church people do not yet agree on this.

Facts now show us that Genesis was amazingly correct, even though no one would know this before Science discovered the true events did happen:

Gen 1:1 says a Big Bang beginning did happen.

Gen 1:2 says the accretion disk, a formless disk of rocks rotating the Sun, was void of global shape, which was true.

Gen 1:3-5 says the Dark Cosmic Age existed before there was any light in the Universe.

Gen 1:6-8 describes the forming of an atmosphere above and waters below.

Gen 1:9-10 describes "all the waters under heaven gathered together into one place," which was a Pangea-like truth.

Gen 1:11-13 explains that the Plant Kingdom came before the Animal Kingdom, which was true.

Gen 1:14-19 tells us that God assigned the Sun and Moon and Stars to keep time on Earth: ("made" in Hebrew means "assigned.")

Gen 1:20-31 explains about the animals diversifying into herds of mammals, and finally, man, made to image "Reality," mentally, in the form of Truth inside his mind.

Chapters 4, 5, and 10 explain the correspondences of the Genealogy with the species of Paleontology:

Okay, there are some people who think the world is going to end tomorrow. BUT - a lot of those people disregard basic Christian teaching. They don't believe Jesus was God. They don't believe the Holy Spirit is a person, they think He's a "Force". I had one of them accuse me of polytheism for talking about Trinitarian theology. They believe in things like when your parents die they become angels in Heaven and look down on you while you live out the rest of your life. Some of them have predicted the end of the world multiple times. None of that is Church teaching.

I am talking about the people who actually believe Christian teaching, not something they made up themselves.

That's the thing...we don't know what the ORIGINAL Gospels said.

All we have are copies of copies many times removed.

    I am an Agnostic.

Looking at the science has nothing to do with misconceptions and prejudices.

Those are reserved for the religious.

Yet another spurious ad hom with zero substance!

Still waiting for the defense of that "prophecy".

Tell me why the copies are no good. I have never understood this argument. How do you know the original Gospels are different if no one knows what they said?

The original Gospels in most cases were NOT written by the actual Apostles....but even those that were as far as the originals were destroyed by the Roman's that also killed the authors.

As it is not like there were any copy machines back then and as just making a single copy of such text was labor intensive in the extreme when one copy was destroyed and the author killed....another Christian FROM MEMORY...had to recreate that Gospel.

This went on for hundreds of years thus we have absolutely no way of knowing what the original Gospel said.

I feel somewhat guilty getting into this......

    http://www.politicalforum.com/showthread.php?t=355981&page=5&p=1066279681#post1066279681

but we are in a place and time where it does need to be done.....

The full truth about the probable heresy of the "Virgin Birth"
and how and when it got into the Christian canon.....
ties in with the full truth about how and when the probable truth about
reincarnation.... as taught by the early Christian writers.....
got edited out of the Christian scriptures.........

I believe that the bulk of the Christian scriptures probably were copied reasonably well.....
they are useful..... and are just about the best book we could find.....
until this time when Messiah Yeshua - Jesus is speaking plainly of the Father.....
as the being of light of NDE fame.....

We all know the Gospels were probably not written by the people they are attributed to, and we know why. How do you know those manuscripts were different from what we have today if, as you say, no one knows what the originals DID say? Your claims are self defeating.

And no, they did not re-create them from memory, there are so many copies of the Gospel in so many places and so many languages your assertions wouldn't hold water even if they weren't self defeating. How can the very same stories of Jesus' life be told in Greece as well as Asia if nobody knew what they said?

As I said...we have no idea whether what we have today is what was originally written down and for the first 150 to 200 years after the first Gospels were created....there were very few if any at all copies.

This is false, we have plenty of copies, not to mention people from that time period quoting the very scriptures we have today.

This meme of yours was proven to be false in the last century.

But... the copies that we have may be from the second or third or fourth century......
and what we are talking about are seemingly minor alterations in the text......
by monks who are convinced...... of a doctrine that the Apostle Paul seemed to
know nothing about...... The Virgin Birth for example..... he never mentions it......

    So.......

    Luk 1:35
"And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

...... Two or three centuries earlier might have read....... "... The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee, and tell you to go and know thy husband............ while thou are espoused to him but not married....... therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the son of G-d..... and he and his twin brother shall be born on the exact day of the year that the L-rd wills for them to be born...."???????

Just a theory.... but you get my point?!?!

The possible metaphorical meaning in this would perhaps be......
that a Christian is supposed to have a vibrant and active relationship
with Messiah Yeshua - Jesus.... even previous to the Marriage Supper of the
Lamb..... even before the seventh trump sounds....... even before we are changed.....
in a moment.. .in the twinkling of an eye??????!!!!

The Virgin Birth Theory is a great way to get rid of Judaisers out of the Roman
Catholic Church... and by the fifth century..... the church was obsessed with
getting rid of all Jews...... and not reaching out to Jews..... .except by the sword.....
thus the eating of ham for Easter...... a pagan take off of Passover......

No, you are not going to do that, you are not going to make a claim based on nothing and demand that I do all of the work. You go find the information to back up your claim, THEN I will prove you wrong.

He's had 180,000 years to prove he exists....so come on guys, he's not going to ever do that....so he's likely not real at all. Time to accept the truth: no god, no after-life, and yes, I'm a party-pooper. :) Sorry to bring the bad news. So let's get on with our lives and make the most of the time we have.
