I had no problem with it either as Vietnam was an unjust and unnecessary war. By the same token I actually admire those that have a personal conviction, whether based upon religion or secular humanism, that oppose war and refuse to participate in war. As the saying went in the 1960's

WHAT IF THEY GAVE A WAR AND NOBODY CAME?

If people, all people simply refused to participate in war then there would be no war. Someday perhaps mankind will intellectually evolve and reject wars as a means of resolving political or economic conflicts.

People like Mohammad Ali and David Harris that were actually willing to be arrested and imprisoned because of their opposition to war deserve the respect of everyone including those of us that served in Vietnam. They represent the future of mankind while we represent the past and present. In the end they are right although it may take a 1000 years before the rest of mankind realizes it.

He didn't serve any time and his career was anything but destroyed as he went on to win the majority of his fights after that episode.

Yeah, the military and in my case the government is funny that way, for despite my having a 100% total and permanent disability status for the wounds I suffered in combat, the social security administration sends me follow up inquiries concerning my doctor's appointments etc every 3 years or so. So despite my T&P status I still have to play their games; not much different than what Mitt had to do.

Yeah, we peons of the lower/middle class always seemed to have gotten shafted; for me it was my getting drafted. With all these favorable scenarios of the rich/wealthy in our society, I think it would behoove most of us to strive to become wealthy and successful. Seems to me that there are only two choices here and that is either find the self confidence and drive needed to become nobody's lap dog by becoming successful, or learn to enjoy your societal indolence by becoming a ward of the state.

I've always believed that a legal marriage is that between one woman and one man.

Those numbers concerning same-sex marriage become suspect if and when voters go to the voting booths to vote on that particular issue.

I don't know of his position on same sex marriage in 2004, but I know he doesn't support it today. Obamacare does violate the Constitution and we'll be getting the SCOTUS vote to confirm that real soon.

The prohibitions against same-sex [gender] marriage also violate the US Constitution as several federal courts have already ruled on the issue. DOMA is all but gone and will be reviewed and declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court next year. When DOMA falls so do the "mini-DOMA's" of the States. Its all just a matter of time because the prohibitions against same-sex [gender] marriage really do violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

Does Mitt Romney oppose equal protection under the law for all Americans? Apparently so based upon his statements.
