Philippine President Duterte says he 'used to be gay' before he 'cured' himself

So if a president of a nation can tell us how he was cured then there is hope for gays everywhere!

    What an exciting day!

Yeah, lots of people who are actually gay have tried to do this and it didn't work. Also, that psychopath isn't exactly a role model.

Many more haven't. And many who "find a cure" discover that it doesn't last. And many end up incurring psychological harm trying

Things like conversion therapy don't actually stop someone from being gay. The person is still naturally attracted to the same sex. Conversion therapy is actually torture. What it does is use pain to cause someone to subconsciously link that pain to homosexual behavior and feelings.

So are you gay if you have gay sex?

    What makes a person gay?

    Attraction to the same sex?

I find many women very beautiful, does that make me gay or would I have to have sex with them to be gay?

You have got to be kidding me. You think that having a potentially bisexual man with a pathological past claiming to be "cured" is some kind of medical truth? Please - just stop. This is the kind of pathetic nonsense that gets gay people killed.

Yes, is there any non anecdotal evidence?

Oh that's wonderful, you want evidence but only certain types of evidence which means you don't actually want the evidence.

    That is unscientific you know.

He asked for non-anecdotal evidence. Which is what ALL scientists ask for. No scientist accepts anecdotal "evidence" as scientific evidence. That's kind of one of the points of the scientific method. That's the whole point behind the "repeatability" thing.

No they don't, I am a scientist and you look at all evidence.

    Anecdotal or not.

If you have 20 people claiming they saw a UFO then, as a scientist, you can safely assume they witnessed something which can lead you to further investigation. Because none of their statements can prove the existence of a UFO doesn't mean it's worthless evidence.

    You aren't a scientist I presume.

Besides, since homosexuality is not a real thing, it's a choice, you will never find non-anecdotal evidence for it.

If you think anecdotes are evidence, then you need to seriously brush up on the scientific method.

Again, reflects a basic lack of scientific literacy.

Every living person with a scientific background will find this humorous. Every non-living scientist will be (figuratively, of course, since there may be some cause for confusion her if I don't clarify that) rolling in their grave.

The fact that it is an unrepeatable anecdote, of course, means it is scientifically worthless evidence.

I am more of scientist than is anyone who considers anecdotes to be scientific evidence, of course.

Wrong once again. Cute, though, in a way.

I never said they were evidence, I said they can help you unravel a problem, lead you down different directions, support direct evidence, all sorts of things but you do not just discount them.

There are many discoveries we never would have found if scientists had ignored anecdotal evidence.

You did, indeed, call anecdotes evidence. Why are you now pretending otherwise? I can quote you doing so in this thread . . . I did so in my post that you just quoted.

No, you called them evidence. Are you now changing your mind? Even if they were somehow directional toward evidence without actually being evidence, then we'd have to accept ALL anecdotes as such.

Hilarious. If homosexuality is not a real thing, then how can it be "cured" as you claim in your title? It doesn't exist according to you.

Choice or not - it is a real thing. Choice or not - what gives you the right to judge it? And it's only a "problem" for people who are uncomfortable with it.
And choice or not - why the hell are you quoting an absolute tyrant who kills people out-of-hand as your source?

Wow, you just made fun of the entire field of psychiatry.

    lol

And maybe since he isn't gay anymore he won't be a tyrant either.

He claims he was "cured" in the year 2000.

He supported vigilante death squads in 2009.
He was elected as President in 2016.

His violent streak started AFTER his supposed "cure".

Well I guess he wasn't fully cured then.

I would hate to see how bad it would have been if he hadn't been cured at all though!

Maybe someone should do a study on him to see if repressing his sexuality has led to the increase in violence.

Which, even if true, is not scientific either. It's well understood that there is anecdotal evidence for pretty much everything, and is good for pretty much nothing.

A number of mass murders have been sexually repressed individuals - his "cure" probably made him MORE violent.

Why do you want to make gay people violent?

I don't make them anything, I just report the facts.

I did not make these girls into what they are.
