If Cruz is the nominee Hillary is just about guaranteed to become POTUS

I don't know what's up in the air when the same pollsters that accurately predicted Trump's wins now say that Cruz can best Hillary Clinton. In my mind the messengers, both Cruz and Clinton, are equal. It's whether a majority of Americans believe in conservative values and whether Clinton's hatred of guns is more palatable than Cruz's hatred of Hispanics.

Those polls are hypothetical match ups and don't reflect the anger that there will be if they go against the will of the people. Most people can handle their candidate losing, but if they feel that their vote was taken away by a corrupt system they're going to be much less likely to vote for the nominee. If Trump goes in with the most delegates and they select somebody else do you really see him supporting the nominee? He's probably going to launch an independent bid and bring most of his supporters with him.

I believe that a man's word is his bond. If Trump does not get the nomination, he is bound to support the nominee. Look, the bottom line is this:

You have to get 1,237 delegates in order to get the nomination. If you don't get them, your nomination is NOT guaranteed. Trump knew - or at least had the duty of knowing the rules before he started playing the game. 1,237 delegates is 50 percent plus one of the available delegates. If you don't get them, then the field is open. Cruz is taking advantage of the strategies provided by the rules.

America is not a democracy. The Republican Party is the minority party and those trying to make Trump's argument are saying this: Forty percent of the minority party in America reflects the will of the people. It's absolute rubbish. If Trump supporters are more comfortable with Hillary Clinton than with the individual that defeats Trump, then they have a serious problem that we could not fix in an election.

Bear in mind that if Trump destroys the Republican Party at this juncture over the presidency, YOU will have put not only Hillary Clinton in office, but turned over the Supreme Court and both Houses of Congress to the liberals. Adding insult to injury, IF you have Trump in the White House, he's still crowing about the great leaders that come from New York. Do people like Mike Bloomberg have your best interests in mind? Or do you even care?

I'm more interested in the horse race and making predictions then the consequences from who actually gets elected. The pledge is a complete joke and it's completely meaningless. There's no legal consequences. Cruz and Kasich have threatened to break it too. Trump has continuously said that he'd support the nominee if the party treats him fairly. I think that it's pretty clear that the party has not been kind to him. I would be stunned if he supported somebody else being the nominee. Absolutely stunned. Plus, imagine if he loses, because the delegates pledged to support him on the first ballot bolt on the second ballot. Is that fair? The party insiders are essentially rigged against him. Trump and Cruz will have over 85% of the delegates. Shouldn't their delegates remain loyal when the rest of the field combined can't muster up more than 2 states and half the delegates of either of them? Think about that, going into the convention it will be something like Trump-47%, Cruz-38%, Others-15%. Others comes in a distant 3rd. The question is what's a fair way to award them to Trump and Cruz? If we went state by state and allocated by their rules it's hard to imagine Cruz winning 80% of the "Others" delegates.

No kidding. They all took the pledge to support the nominee, even if it's Trump. Within 48 hours, both Cruz and Kasich reneged.

Reality is that once the convention is over the media hype and drama end as well. The fact that either Sanders or Clinton might get the White House will sober up everyone with half a brain...

The rules stand. Personally, I think that if the race had started out with Cruz v Trump, Cruz would have mopped the floor with Trump and claimed an early victory. Since we're talking fair, let's go with that:

Since Rubio's supporters have no delegate with Rubio having dropped out, why can't they vote for whomever they choose? That being the case, once you add Rubio's support base to Cruz, Trump bites the dust and the race is over.

No, the rules are the rules. Trump and his supporters must abide by them. Again, a minority (less than 50 percent of the minority party) does not constitute the will of the people.

I don't think so this time. We've not had a situation in which the GOP has so openly discussed disenfranchising voters by rules shenanigans at the convention. Anyway Republicans winning this year was a long shot anyway. This isn't the same country that elected Ronald Reagan. States are being boycotted now because they're passing laws to prevent middle aged men using the same bathrooms as pre-teen girls. That is where the country is at. So even if the Republicans were not trying to commit suicide it wasn't likely to happen for them.

There is still a long way to go. Nobody is actively campaigning against the other side, its all still internal. Once there is only one focus, one opponent, all the nonsense will fall away and people will realize the truth, there is a choice, and that will matter...

Hmm, giving the second term to obama did not seem to sober up nearly enough people 4 years ago to prevent that from hapenning.

Different issues, Obama was an incumbent, the truth of his failures didn't come out until after he was re-elected, and even Cruz isn't as cardboard as Romney. The likely opponent, Clinton isn't well liked, she's like or hate, no in between, the other option is a socialist. Hillary is easy to beat, just follow the Obama strategy, if its Sanders, it becomes an ideological race, issues and media drama won't even matter...

Unless Hillary gets indicted, I'm not sure anyone can beat her.

But if the Republicans lose in November, there is still a silver lining.

And that is the message that the rank and file Republicans sent to Washington Establishment Republicans.

"We don't like you. We don't trust you. You are not representing us."

My take on Trump is this ...

He is right on the issues.

But he is terribly inarticulate; he is needlessly and foolishly offensive to many. These are the reasons why he'll lose if he loses. If he were more articulate and less offensive, he could win in a landslide.

So my hope is that if Trump loses, someone who is articulate and up on the issues, someone who doesn't needlessly offend, someone who refuses big money donors, someone who wants to put America first ... realizes that they can run for president and win.

This is what we are learning from the Trump candidacy, and one day - maybe - we'll get a truly great President.

I am certain that Hillary, if she becomes president, will be the worst president in history. So if a patriotic, independent, articulate, likeable candidate emerges in the future, that person will win overwhelmingly.

Cardboard Romney is still better than a televangelist who over dramatizes everything. Cruz is completely unelectable. Even if Trump never jumped in I don't believe Cruz could beat Hillary without an indictment. He's such a bad candidate that he almost makes her look authentic.

Come on, Cruz is so much to the right that he makes Barry Goldwater and Bernie Sanders appear moderates. Cruz can't get elected anywhere outside of Texas and perhaps Utah, he won't get a single independent, let alone a moderate democrat to vote for him. I imagine Kasich might perform about as well as his predecessors (Romney and McCain), Cruz will get half of his vote. Doesn't the fact that the Republicans have lost 5 elections out of the last 6 and with growing margins too tell you anything?

For such a "terrible" candidate Cruz is hanging onto Trump's coat tails and has taken several states from the bloviating billionaire.
Nobody has the extremely high negatives that Trump has and if Cruz is unelectable you can thank the character assassins and Josef Gobbels impersonators in the Trump camp.

There's nobody to blame. Cruz is unelectable all by himself. Contrary to what some may think his lack of electability has nothing to do with where he stands on the issues. If Cruz is the nominee I'd be more aligned with him than any other of the two major party nominees in my lifetime. Yes he's way to the right, but Reagan was very far too the right as well. Cruz's problem is his character. There has never been a more phony, more awkward, and less charismatic major party nominee in my lifetime. He's just not presidential. I can envision myself vomiting in my mouth a little every time President Hillary Clinton goes to the podium for a speech/lecture. The thought of "President Cruz" is completely unimaginable.

Yeah, in tennis terms, he makes a lot of unforced errors. He should think twice, or get some advice first, before he does a lot of the things he does. But I guess his spontaneity is part of his appeal as well.

Trump is also a major tool, who is only in it for his own ego.

He is not a Republican, just an opportunist.

The idea that the GOP would "unite" behind him is beyond ludicrous.

Hillary and Cruz are two peas in a pod. Corrupt, disingenuous, entirely lacking charisma, absolutely unlikeable, and totally unelectable.

Where were you the last election? The RNC openly changed rules and disenfranchised Paul delegates to get your boy mitt on the ballot. They are doing it again, it's what your party does, they cheat, lie and steal.
    Always have.
And no it's not the country the screwed up and elected saint ronnie, hopefully we have learned that lesson.
We should by now it has cost us dearly.

The Angry White Guys who have their frillies in a bunch over Clinton are confronted with a seemingly insignificant decision - whether to support the slimy foreign guy or the obnoxious tycoon buffoon, neither of whom could win a general election.

I strongly advise them to go with the latter. As a show business celebrity, he clearly has the qualifications to be more entertaining - far, far more entertaining.

Cruz as Nominee?....the Trump CULTISTS get angry and stay home in November (Or follow their Beloved One on some vengence-based Independent run).....thus Calgary Ted leaves Cleveland losing at least 1/3rd of the GOP vote. Given his radical positions, he won't make that up with Moderates and Independents.

Trump as Nominee?.......Hillary can start measuring for drapes to re-decorate her old room in the White House as soon as Trump starts his acceptance speech in Cleveland. :)
