Of course, the ruling will be on hold pending appeal.
This the total to three states along w/ Colorado and Maine.
The SCOTUS will ultimately decide if the states have the "right" to do this.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Removing Trump from the ballot three weeks before the primary is insane. Trump has not been convicted of inciting an insurrection so how can this ONE judge make a decision based on it?

The left must looking at the polls and see they’re in big trouble, so election interference is all they have left.

    CNN —
In a surprise move, an Illinois judge has removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s ballot based on the 14th Amendment’s so-called “insurrectionist ban.”

The decision is paused, giving Trump a short period of time to appeal.

Unfortunately states rights only seem to go as far as women’s uterus’s.

I have to say I don’t know how I feel about this — trump blatantly tried to overrule the will of the people but if this is allowed Republicans will absolutely weaponize this to remove all Democrats going forward because they don’t like what flavor ice cream they enjoy.

Four years ago, at this very moment, I said on this forum that the pandemic would annihilate Trump's chances of being re-elected.

All the MAGAs laughed at me.

    Including you.

What's happening in Illinoi is nothing, a fly on a windshield.

What will destroy Trump politically is a combination of 1000 factors, but the one that will hurt him the most will be the lawsuit over the secret documents he stole.

    Now you can laugh again.

I'm betting the shenanigans in Georgia will sink him the most.

Let's make a fun bet. We can wager something healthy, unlike Trump. For example, a piece of fresh fruit to the winner.

GA case is on thin ice because of Willis
Other than the NY case, which is the weakest one, highly unlikely that anything comes to trial pre election day
    Which is Trump's goal

What's the point? The SC already deliberated on this issue and indications are that there will be a unanimous decision that states don't have the right to do this. This is beating a dead horse.

Whatever the final ruling is, in my opinion the states shouldn't be able to remove a candidate from the ballot, especially not by ONE SINGLE JUDGE. It would open the door for removing candidates for all kinds of reasons.

At the risk of sounding cynical, I think the Georgia trial will have little impact on MAGA.

They know that Trump's call to Raffensperger was totally illegal, but they don't give a damn.

For them, any means is good enough to win.

But it's impossible to defend the story of the secret documents Trump stole.

Because we're going to learn that in addition to the top-secret documents (not declassified) that Trump kept in his bathroom, there were also documents classified as 'secret defense' that he wasn't allowed to declassify.

And it was one of these documents (plans for the hypothetical invasion of Iran) that he showed to a reporter while she was recording him.

This trial will expose Trump as a huge domestic threat to the country's security.

And it's going to hurt like hell.

I listened to the SCOTUS hearings when the lawyer representing Colorado made his closing argument.

And amazingly, it was Judge Jackson who came out with the strongest argument for Trump becoming a legitimate candidate again.

She said that a single state could not have the power to eliminate a candidate.

The issues here isn't the 14th amendment IMHO. The issue here is that he hasn’t been convicted of an insurrection, so how can he be removed from the ballot ?

Look, I think a second Trump term could literally be the end of democracy. Even if he looses. It’s NOT Trump who will do it, it is his “followers/suporters” who will do whatever they can to keep him in office, all the while screaming about “DEMOCRACYYYYYYYYYY”……”The CONSTITUTIONNNNNN”

But I have to be honest and say that it’s a bad precedent to set to keep people off the ballot without them being adjudicated.
Hell, its bad enough now with a two party system (both parties are corrupt), that we get the worst of the worst, and we truely don’t get a “choice”

The countries so far down this rabbit hole I dont know if we can get out of it. We’re more divided now that we were during the Civil War

It’s just my opinion, that seems to make sense. The problem is that since 1870 nobody has been disqualified from running for office on the grounds of insurrection so I’d hate to think that we would go with a precedent that was set 150 years ago. Even KJB seems to think that this sets a bad precedent. I’d also think that section 3 is tied to section 5 of the 14th amendment.

Actually a Colorado court found he had committed insurrection and this is now, what the third or fourth state to question his eligibility

Not so sure - seems there are quite a few cracks in the MAGA base - his rallies are getting smaller nd they are having to remove chairs so it is not so obvious that he has fewer attending and apparently people re leaving after the first fifteen minutes because they re sick of the same old same old
