    :omg:

I was half-way to the Hot Line to the Supreme and Paramount Leader of the World, Condoleezza Rice, to request her permission to raise the alert level of military forces across the globe then - the relief - when I remembered - it's "just" a movie!

Looks like awesome effects and a good cast. The plot, however, seems rather passe at this point.

I love alien invasion movies. So gonna see this.

Apparently Will Smith still thought he was a megastar and wanted too much money........... and no don't wanted his crappy son to be involved.............. so they made it without him.

I'm definitely not paying money to see it unless it gets some good reviews. I'm tired of seeing Hollywood crap that isn't worth the ticket price.

Ummm, wasn't the premise in the first movie that the entire alien civilization traveled from planet to planet feeding off all the natural resources then moving on?

And didn't they blow up the mother ship with that alien civilization on it. . .

So they can't have scouting parties?

Or attack fleets with the Mining Fleet coming behind it?

There is a sequel to that horrible film?...Does anybody recall 'Earth Vs Flying Saucers'?...'Independence Day' was a complete rip off from that...

Also many other movies but that is an excellent one.

That said my take its a POPCORN movie not high art, it should be worth a Redbox Rental.

No. Because they are poor actors. Maybe you should give them lessons.

I have no interest in 'popcorn' movies...I will surely pass on this abortion just as I will pass on any Star Wars movie...I will patiently wait on the new Tarantino film...

Thanks for the clarification. Can never be too sure around these parts.

They've made millions acting. I doubt they would need anyone's advice on acting at this point, wouldn't you say?

No, not when they explicitly state the entire civilization is on the mother ship.

Which is the impression the President got from having his mind read.

    - - - Updated - - -

No, it's a retelling of The War of the Worlds. It follows the basic plot of The War of the Worlds. The aliens are even defeated by a "disease" as in The War of the Worlds.

    They couldn't have been wrong?

I would have liked to see will smith reprise his role, but his son would be a mistake.

The simple fact is that this movie will suck as much as 'Star Wars'...

You beat me too it lol.

Well they had some pretty advanced weaponry and had reasons to build weapons like that so I assume that either A they have run into intelligent civilizations before and simply won and moved on after taking the resources, or B they were smart enough to realize that while traveling around the galaxy they might run into somebody at some point who may not appreciate the way they do things so they armed themselves.

Now here is where I dig way too deep in to this because I'm bored. These aliens left their own place in the galaxy in search for more resources. Which means they have managed to harvest all of the resources on their own planet (if they have a home planet) and all of the other planets in their star system (if they have any other planets there, they probably do, almost every star has multiple planets). They managed to travel here to Earth. Obviously the ships they use are huge so they could very likely be generation ships or something so the need for FTL travel may not be necessary. The ships themselves could be their permanent homes as well so the need to get anywhere fast might not be necessary. But either way they are super advanced, way more advanced than we are.

Obviously Earth is a credible threat seeing how we destroyed them the first time but we are only a threat if you come here. We can't exactly go anywhere else. The aliens surely figured out how primitive we are by watching us fight and throwing literally everything we had at them, so they know we can't go anywhere. Maybe the Earth is the first intelligent civilization they have ever encountered and it freaked them out even though they know we are still primitive compared to them and we can't leave the Solar System any time soon, they want to destroy us to keep us from advancing any farther.

Thats the only real plausible explanation to why they would realistically come back. The Earth isn't even super resource rich in comparison to other places in the galaxy so they aren't here for that. There isn't really anything here that they couldn't get elsewhere that doesn't have the occupants shooting at you. Any logical civilization that far in advancement would surely just say "Yeah...not worth it, we'll get our minerals from the Gliese 581 system, nobody lives there".

But this looks like a hollywood popcorn flick, the premise will likely be something like "Earth blew up one of our motherships, we're pissed off and we're whooping your ass!"

You don't have to see it, from what I can tell the new Star Wars movie in many ways has the same plot as A New Hope in the major themes so its not going to be some masterpiece its also a Popcorn Movie which is fine. Now I want to see a classic Science Fiction movie I'd watch as an example Things to Come which H.G. Wells did the screenplay for or the original The Day the Earth Stood Still among others those are masterpieces of the genre.

A Popcorn movie feels good and is fun, where you don't have to think that much and you enjoy it.

Absolutely, but Hollywood never lets plot get in the way of lucrative sequels.

There are a few logical ways to explain it.

It was an alien mind. The President didn't fully understand what he was seeing in the telepathic link.

The alien lied. It'd been captured. It was trying to scare him.

It was telling the truth, the President comprehended, but their whole civ moving from planet to planet doesn't mean it has to be in a single ship. They could have fleets. That could have been the scouting fleet. Or the invasion fleet. The next fleet could be the colonisation fleet (I'm assuming it takes a while to strip a planet bare).

The estimated North American bison population, at it's peak, was around 30 to 60 million. In mere decades this population was reduced to near extinction levels. Many were shot and killed for money of course, but often times bored train passengers would shoot at bison for no other reason than target practice.

An advanced alien civilization with the heart of man...imagine that. We'd be no more than ants and they would be holding the magnifying glass on a sunny day.

Mankind kills for sport...out of boredom, for something to do. It's not inconceivable an alien civilization would be doing the same to us, an inferior species; even if the planet itself may not hold much intrinsic value. Perhaps Earth and it's inhabitants to them are the equivalent to shooting bison out of a moving train. It alleviates some of the boredom on a long journey.
