I think I missed the part where those people were unemployed, or it is that you have no clue what the SNAP program is or just making stupid comments for no reason?

People unemployed are too lazy to get a job.

I don't think it's that simple. And even if it were true, it doesn't tell us what to do policy-wise. Besides, people who are underemployed or employed at minimum wage may still need food benefits since the minimum wage may not cover basic expenses, particularly if they have a family.

I propose that anyone completely living off Government handouts have to pick up a certain number of garbage from the streets every week. Even if it is only 10 to 20 hours a week, at least we get cleaner streets.

As far as Snap is concerned, I do believe minimum wage folk should get it no matter what. Iowa should be ashamed of themselves for making life even harder for lower income people. I think they could create restrictions where people can only purchase healthy foods with it because a healthy body is a healthy mind. Rather see an apple instead of cupcakes or junk food.

I agree with the caveat of being capable. Earning things adds them value as opposed to handouts.

There is no perfect solution, but we should strive to improve things.

If people want more food they should go back to school and get education and skills that will make them more valuable toemployers and increase their compensation. This isn't rocket science.

Are you joking? lol... if only it were that simple, but usually just going back to school will result in more debt than pay.

Engineers that can design and build things (iPhones, TV', bridges, radios, buildings, cars, airplanes, etc.) that are sold for profit make money for themselves and their employers. Degrees in medievil art history? Not so much.

You sound very unhappy. I went to a name brand college an got an engineering degree. I found it possible to keep moving up based on that degree. Eventually I earned an MBA and made even more by increasing my value as an employee.

Don't let your past failures discourage you. Keep trying.

    SalesForce 8,000

Being an engineer is no guarantee of a job or an income.

There are a lot more companies than that. CUBIC (that I worked for for years, has over a thousand open engineer slots). Boeing, General Dynamics, Lockheed, Northrup Grumman, and Fairchild-Weston are all hiring. I'm partial to defense having spent my life in it. Defense tends to deal with new concepts and leading edge technologies. The companies you cited are generally into software more than the fun stuff... helicopters, airplanes, satellites, etc.

Iowa is a breadbasket of grains and meat...they have plenty of both and yet here they are saying no porridge for you...Oliver Twist would find this familiar.

This is about the dumbest comment a person can make on this subject since currently you can work a full 40 hours a week and still need and can be allegeable for governmental assistance to buy food for yourself. It is like that, since companies are not paying enough for people to make ends meet. This has been going on for quiet a while, and predates the inflation that hit the world.

Have a clue from a decade ago:
    https://www.theatlantic.com/busines...w-its-workers-survive-on-minimum-wage/277845/

The solution is simple. Make companies pay more, so people working 40 hours do not need governmental aid = taxes. So we can tax the people less.

lol, I'm a pathologist, though if I could get more free time I'd take less money. Yes, it was a lot of work to get here. No, I don't think everybody has the same opportunities as me.

That would be better than junk food. It's a bad look of course, but it's far healthier to serve your kid a ribeye than a bag of chips and a coke.

The motivation seems to be designed to try to get these people to eat more healthy categories of food.

The idea is probably that they can still buy white bread and cheese, but have to use their own money for that.

So it's designed to push them away from foods that have been deemed things Americans are eating too much of.

It is a little ironic that those on the Left seem to be in opposition to this, if we recall Michelle Obama's school lunch program, touted by the media, or New York's tax on soft drinks and banning large sized container cups of soda in restaurants.

Your comment is so vague as to be meaningless. Can you be more SPECIFIC about what you are talking about? I have experienced "the real world" from raising a family to war in Iraq and more. What EXACTLY are you talking about?
