Who is asking for taxation to be abolished? Perhaps you need to read the OP again and remind yourself of the topic. Some taxes are fair and reasonable. Others are not. Agree or disagree?
Yes, he was a proponent of progressive taxation based upon the idea that a government is responsible for defending our accumulated wealth, and the more wealth one has, the more we should contribute to that cause. He also said that taxes should be clear, and that government should be transparent and frugal. Can't have one without the rest. Plus, that assumes an unequal representation as it requires more expenses be spent in defense of the rich, rather than the poor who don't have much to defend. Same thing I have been saying. You want to tax me more? Great! Then I deserve more from my government than the poor guy down the street.
Well, you probably don't. Lol! I've never seen so many people with complete trust in the government. Wow. That is so dumb.
Would you feel the voluntary donations would fund a mighty military to defend us against an enemy superpower? I bet 99% Americans would not.. make mind on what? i've been consistent, this Country is based on what the majority vote for, this is part of a democracy. You evaded the point. Do they work for us or not?
Are you defining 'equal in the eyes of the law' based upon the amount paid? If so, how could 'equality' ever be attained? It certainly isn't now, is it? The fact is that each person is equal 'in the eyes of the law' because each person gets one vote. Why would the amount of taxes paid define equality in your eyes?
this was Belch's idea, an idea i think is naive at best because of people like you who would not pay a dime.
Taxation is the price we pay to have what we have. Those who prefer not to pay taxes are welcome to move to a third world nation and enjoy the chaos that chaotic taxation brings.
If the government asked me to donate money for the Middle East or some foreign country or to transgender studies or to turtle crossings or studying gays in bars in Brazil. Guess what? My answer would be a big fat NO.
If the government asked me to donate money for some of my local roads that need work or something that I felt was worthy, then I would say yes.
Why is it ridiculous? I don't find the question in any way worthy of scorn. What do you pay in taxes?
If our nation is going to have to depend on the largess of people like the above in order to continue ...we're in big trouble
A nice once We are a 'socialist' democracy (Nordic style), with solid taxation and nationalised healthcare and education.
I already explained this. Taxation without representation and representation without taxation. You don't want either of those. Rather, you just want representation independent of taxation.
But you didn't. The phrase doesn't contemplate the amount of taxes paid, does it? No, that's not at all true. What I want is a system which doesn't fetter the incentive to earn more, and grants equal tariff as a ratio of productivity. It works for sales tax; why wouldn't it work for income?
I know many of them don't benefit me personally but I end up with a pretty good feeling knowing I live in the best country in the world. I just hope it holds out till we can put trump in the funny farm
Are you free to leave the society that charges taxes? If so, it is not slavery, but a condition in which society you wish to live in. Don't like paying taxes, move to a place where no taxes are collected.
