Is the naive, militarily challenged, foreign policy neophyte, Trump starting a war with Iran?

Well, he is talking tough again and it appears that he is inching in that direction. He has no one in his administration to give him advice that he needs to hear instead of what he wants to hear. Now the Iranians have shot down a drone that may or may not have invaded their air space. Does this help you to understand the danger?

He is beginning to realize what his total incompetence may cost.

In his interview with Time, Trump described what kind of provocation he believes would justify military action. "I would certainly go [to war] over nuclear weapons."

We already had an agreement with Iran that permanently barred Iran from making a nuke. Trump trashed it!!!

 

Because the question is infantile, premature, and quite foolish.

 

How was that agreement supposed to be enforced?

 

It doesn't really explain anything. Trump is constantly shifting from tough talking to conciliatory. He's done both in the past 24 hours. And I'm not sure why you think you know what advice he's getting. Do you know all of his advisers and the totality of advice being given?

This "crisis" isn't going to lead us to war with Iran. But I think for some reason you are half hoping it will.

 

No it's not when you're beating the war drums and declaring the war imminent. So when are we going to war?

 

His closest advisors are warmongers. Get real. He "knows more than the generals", yes?

No one really wants war with Iran. But a few air strikes by the U.S. and a moderately sized naval battle won't hurt anything, except the Iranians of course.

Trump does not know how to handle the situation. He provoked Iran. He backed Iran into corner, and Iran reacted by shooting down $130 million drone that was in the act of spying on Iranian facilities.

And now, Trump doesn't know what to do. Nobody does.His total incompetence combined with his talent for using threats in every situation has placed our nation between a rock and a hard place. There are no good alternatives.

The IAEA. Iran is still the most heavily inspected nation in the world because she is still a part of JCPOA. And Iran is still in compliance with the JCPOA protocols.

Because of Trump's unending provocation and increased sanctions, Iran may do exactly what Trump did, remove itself from the agreement and she has threatened to increase its uranium enrichment.

All of this is happening because Trump destroyed an agreement that was working.

 

Iran cannot afford to. You should be smart enough to know that.

 

Just my opinion here, but Trump is not starting a war. I see bravado and rodomontade, but an actual call for a military campaign that isn’t more than fluff...

Trump designs his tweets for a certain audience, his base. Members of his base are the only ones who will believe what he says. Such is the case with his tweets today.

"Sights???" Would you trust a President who doesn't know the difference between "sights" and "sites?"

"We were cocked & loaded?" Did Trump get that from a John Wayne movie? What a trite phrase for a President to use, but it is the kind of phrase his fans love.

There is the overall tenor of these two tweets that only Trump's adoring admirers could possibly believe. Our military is about to make a serious mistake according to Trump's story line and suddenly, at the last minute, he rides in on his white horse and saves the day. Good Lord, it is difficult to imagine anyone believing that. Is that how decisions are made in the Trump White House?

"I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike." Very dramatic and a total lie. When the Pentagon presents its options for a military strike, up front is the estimate of casualties. No President is going to learn of the casualty estimate ten minutes before zero hour unless said President is just plain stupid.

"Sanctions are biting & more added last night." Another lie, the White House has not imposed new sanctions, not yet, anyway. However, that seems to be the direction toward which Trump is heading. He backed Iran into a corner, and Iran shot down a very expensive UAV.

Iran called his bluff and Trump chooses to back down.

 

Trump has this overblown view of the power of television. Somehow he has gotten it into his head that acting like a T.V. character instead acting like a President is advantageous for him. However, again, his audience is his base. They love it when talks this.



This sounds more like a scene for Madam Secretary than an interview with an American President. Trump was very dramatic as he saved the world from Armageddon.
