Of course there is no time that is best for 'everybody', but the ideals/benefits/economic possibilities for an average hard working individual of the 50-60's were pretty good compared to now. Main Street was viable, which meant most communities thrived, and weekends fishing at a favorite waterhole, or playing ball at the local park. A family could have one bread winner and do pretty good for themselves. In this day and age, especially if you never lived that era, nothing is lost because it isn't known how it could be, or was in those days.

I know you think technology rules, and believe working 3 jobs while the wife works 2 is perfectly normal and acceptable under the financial conditions brought on by crony capitalism and the corruption that is so blatant it isn't even hid behind closed doors.

If you never lived through the $.15-.25 gas era, and local competition that kept communities vibrant, then don't knock it.

That about sums it up. Democrats are evil.

They are wrong on every issue.

Republicans are right on every issue.

But you asked the question. There's your answer.

    Good ol days? Hmmmm.

I long for the time when I could stand and wait for family members/friends at the airport...AT THE GATE as they disembark the plane. That's not happening again.

I long for a time(when I grew up), that I could send my kids out to go play in the neighborhood and whomever's house they were playing at had parents who kept an eye on them. If they were hungry, they fed them. If one got hurt, the fixed it. They didn't call other parents in hysterics if someone skinned their knee.

I long for a time when if you did get in a fight at school, the teachers let it play out under a watchful eye and used logical judgment when hauling the person who started it to the principle. And you didn't have to worry that the loser would come back the next day with a knife or gun to finish the job, because they're PSYCHOTIC and doped on something screwing with their brain chemistry.

I long for a time when teachers could call the parents up on the phone and the parent wouldn't instantly attack the teacher and claim their child is a perfect angel. Yes, YOUR CHILD HAS FLAWS!!!!!!

I long for a time when I could ride my bike on the street and cars would go around you calmly instead of accidentally running you over because they were looking at their phone.

I long for a time when, as kids, we could set up hockey goals in the middle of the street and when a car came, we'd all yell, CAAAAAAAARRR and we'd quickly move the goals, the car would pass by, wave at us and we'd continue playing. We know Mr. or Mrs. so and so and wave back. We wouldn't have the cops called on us.

I long for a time when kids didn't call adults by their first names.

I long for a time when you could smack your kid on the tush in public and not have 3 women dialing 911.

I long for a time I didn't have to worry why my neighbor is renting instead of owning, because they seem like they can't quite afford to live next to me.

I long for a time when my dog could follow me wherever I went, NOT on a leash....and people wouldn't freak out if she barked.

I long for a time I didn't have to lock my doors on my car or my house.

I long for a time, we could shoot bows and arrows or break out a .22 in the front yard without having the cops called on us.

    Guess when I grew up=)

You cannot even grasp how manifestly stupid that statement.
The 50's where shows like - Ozzy & Harriet - and - Leave it to Beaver -
    - The Donna Reed Show - and - Father Knows Best and - Dennis the Menace -
were as American and jolly and innocent as it gets.No Thuggish Hip Hop crap.
There was Perry Como and Bing Crosby and Beautiful Christmas's.
Macy's and Gimble's were more than enthuthastic about having the best Santa
in town.Sure they still had back street tin pan alleys'.But they weren't pushed
onto the public.Like Today's scuzzy reality Shows.People actually prized common
    sense.Today's it's considered corny.Not even Kitschy,but rather corny creepy
like the Duggars.Totally assbackwards.Department stores didn't cotton bait & switch
nor did Politicians Lie like convicts in order to attract voters. Not even Huey Long.
That is how and why Obama got re-elected.because we now have a dumbed-down
populace of inner city knuckleheads preoccupied with tattoos and maybe going
on Relief.Free Obama phones.Free this and free that.I see on that Menu a once
    popular dish.Liver & Onions.Restaurants don't even serve that anymore.
It's TOO simple and ordinary.Like Lying. It's accepted because it's everywhere,
like Tattoos and flavored liquor.Even premium beer is now spiced with caramel.
To give it added brilliance. Most things are fake.Like our Politicans and our
    Economy and our living standards.

Yesiree Bob.And a whole lot more ta boot.
Take our Drill Sergeants. They emasculated them back in the 80's.
No more talk about one's Mother. Now Kids have more say about classes
than the parents.Parents now live to be best friends/buddies with their kids.
Instead of pursuing career or having adult friends. When was the last time you
saw a TV show with adults playing Bridge. That's all you had in the 50's and
60's.Cocktail parties and Bridge parties.Kids had to learn how to behave w/o
constant attention.Kids had to learn how to grow up on their own.
Today's kids have a latch key parent on their heels like walking a dog.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm lying and how that didn't exist....and that was the 80s=)

Looking at how I was able to grow up and now with my kids, its hard for me to pick anything that is BETTER now. My gaming PC now and Xbox blow away my Atari 2600, but are my kids having more fun than I did? No, not really. I was gone all day during the summer. My parents just called the homes where they thought I was and asked them to look out the window. OR, they knew I'd be home when I was supposed to be. They didn't have to worry. And I was 8 years old. In someone's pool. Miles away at a candy store. There is NO WAY IN HELL I could send my 8 year old out into the neighborhood, mostly because I fear all the ADULTS would end up killing her with their cars. And my current neighborhood is WAY nicer than where I grew up. Kids just don't play outside wherever and do whatever. We have to send them to camps all day. Then again, my Mom stayed home, g-d bless her.

I'll add more. Why don't schools have actual nurses? WTF? Were taxes THAT much more in the 80s that schools could afford it then? Why can't they afford to have one on staff now?

Public schools are such a joke. The only kids getting a real education go to
Private or Catholic schools.Because Private schools, especially Catholic
still have standards.Nun a dat touchy feely nonsense.Imagine someone like a
Spencer Tracy or a Clark Gable growing up in today's Public School.
Of course there are the occasional Bad apple like Kim Kardashian who went
    to an all-girls Catholic High School { Marymount High School in L.A. }
Nancy Pelosi also went to all Catholic schools.
Must be the lack of Nuns.Nuns teach if nothing else, modesty and humility.
2 Virtue totally absent from any Kardashian or Nancy Pelosi.

When I was in school 1973-1985, it was VERY common during deer season, for high school boys to bring their rifles to school in their trucks (they often went hunting after school) and they would be out in the parking lot showing their rifles to each other.

There's a difference in just being a Republican, and being a conservative Republican. The left tends to group everyone as the same. I wouldn't insult a Democrat by calling them liberal if they are not a liberal Dem.

It's a nice pic isn't it. Doesn't portray cops as the bad guys like nowadays. As far as the kid running away from home, kids do that " boys will be boys".

Right. In other words, they were unrealistic. Despite this, many people want to return to a time that never existed. It's just a sad fantasy from a bunch of old people who are unhappy with today's society. This is revisionist history at its worst, an I think this level of delusion is sad to see.
