It’s name recognition. One day people will look back and remembering its nickname, including the name of origin, is helpful for people to recognize it.

That’s just how people are, and thats why its done.

 

Encouraging the stigma against Asians because of some I'll conceived notion that you need to punish the geographical origin of the virus can absolutely be traced to trump.

Especially when he intentionally continued to engage in that behavior after being warned by dozens.

It’s not encouraging a stigma against Asians. Nor is it punishing the geographical origin of the virus. It’s simply nicknaming it, including the name of its origin, and its very appropriate.

He has been “warned” by people who choose to see wrong in anything he does, including travel bans that bought us much time and saved many lives. So i dont see why he would listen to dems or the MSM criticizing him for that.

 

Because its logical.

 

Covid-19 or coronavirus accomplishes that exact same goal without the associated stigma and harm created by intentionally continuing to use an inappropriate name.

 

You are strongly encouraged to review the protocols from the WHO and the CDC for naming novel viruses. This is not some new concept.

Fact is this. The correct name for the nasty is Covid-19. Trump likes to call it the 'Shiner Virus' to emphasise his lack of responsibility for it, but he forgets, or he does not care that in doing so, he is demonising Chinese people particularly those who live in the USA who likely are feeling under attack because of the way Trump uses that expression. He is not saying 'China Virus' to simply give it a geographical ground zero. He wants people to condemn China (and divert attention away from his mismanagement of it) and Chinese for it.

 

If you are incapable of remembering the name covid-19 or coronavirus, then that is your problem. Using the phrase Chinese virus at this point is intentionally inappropriate and harmful to a significant population of your fellow Americans.

 

Well, I say you are wrong. It is logical.

Yes the correct name is covid 19. However nicknaming is appropriate and useful. Calling it the china virus is not demonizing china or Chinese or Asian people. They do deserve to be recognized as the country of origin however, and attempting to blame us for it.

Either way, calling it the china virus, or any other similar term like the wuhan virus is absolutely justified and useful.

 

I never claimed to be incapable of remembering the actual name. However society as a whole does, thats just the fact of it. So nicknaming is useful, and that’s why people do it. Calling it the Chinese virus is not only accurate, but appropriate and should continue to be used.

And it certainly isn’t harming anyone, anymore than critiquing Trump is resulting in people harming Trump supporters.
