Afirmative action is restitution for the years of suffering caused by jim crow laws, not racism.

No doubt the Court's conservatives will use the same tragically flawed logic they used when gutting the VRA to end AA programs. That the Act is no longer necessary to protect the (voting) rights of minorities. Belied by the immediate action taken by numerous states affected by the law to enact suppressive voter laws.

The advance approval, or preclearance, requirement shifted the legal burden and required governments that were covered to demonstrate that their proposed election changes would not discriminate.

Going forward, the outcome alters the calculus of passing election-related legislation in the affected states and local jurisdictions. The threat of an objection from Washington has hung over such proposals for nearly a half century. Unless Congress acts, that deterrent now is gone.

That prospect has upset civil rights groups which especially worry that changes on the local level might not get the same scrutiny as the actions of state legislatures.

Tuesday’s decision means that a host of state and local laws that have not received Justice Department approval or have not yet been submitted can take effect. Prominent among those are voter identification laws in Alabama and Mississippi.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, a Republican, said his state’s voter ID law, which a panel of federal judges blocked as discriminatory, also would be allowed to take effect.

So, two wrongs make a right in your book? Punish people based on their skin tone, because they share the same skin tone as these other people who did bad things? Also, discriminating against people based on their race is racism.

On a day that celebrates the end of slavery imposed on a people based on the color of their skin, I think we white folks can let this one go without trying to make it all about us...

After all, we have July 4th. That was the day us white folks declared our independence. We just decided to exclude a few people for almost a hundred years. And add about another hundred years on before the end of legal segregation and discrimination.

As I said, I think we white can let this one go without trying to make it all about us...

Enhancing your knowledge is only a few clicks away. General Order No. 3 was an American legal decree issued in 1865 enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation to the residents of the state of TX and freeing all remaining slaves in the state.

I would describe AA as an imperfect remedy to decades of institutionalized racism that held back otherwise qualified black Americans from achieving their potential. The impact of which on black Americans has been devastating.

It seems that you feel resentment against African Americans (them). Isn't that what this thread is about? Keep talking, I am learning a lot.

What in my post makes you feel I resent anything other than race based legislation?

    Agreed.

Black executives see progress since George Floyd, but much work still to be done: CNBC survey

The killing of George Floyd and the social justice movement that emerged was an eye-opening moment for many in the U.S., including the nation’s top companies. The tragedy sparked more awareness and positive change in corporate America, according to a new survey of Black executives conducted by CNBC, but the results from the survey show that there remains much work to be done.

The survey, conducted by CNBC in partnership with the Executive Leadership Council, found 74% of Black executives saying they saw a positive change in hiring, retention and promotion of Black employees since Floyd was killed in May 2020. Even more (80%) said their company has provided more support and attention to employee resource groups.

But the need for greater attention to diversity issues is also evident in the results. As many Black executives say organizational treatment of Black employees has remained the same (43%) or worsened (9%) since 2020, as those who say it has improved (48%). And exactly half say there are still less opportunities for Black employees than other employees at their organizations.

Lasting injustices like these are what AA was designed to address.

I’m not the one who is bringing them up in a thread that has nothing to do with them. I would argue the fascination seems to be on your end

So, discriminating against whites who had nothing to do with the decades of institutionalized racism is a proper redress mechanism?

Who cares what black executives think? This is just a survey of their opinion, which is meaningless. Those same black executives probably watch CNN and MSNBC and other left-wing outlets, which shape their opinions.

we need Affirmative actions for "AMERICAN" workers, as many corps are outsourcing jobs overseas as fast as they can as it's almost like slave labor

Bullshit, you started this thread just to bitch and moan about not giving credit to white people for doing the bare minimum in human decency.

Seriously, fck anyone and everyone who thinks that’s the proper take on this.

Also, for any incredibly mediocre and shrill posters in this thread still under the wrongful impression that white people deserve a “thank you” for treating black people like, well people, let me inform you that black people also fought in the Civil War and every single war in American history.

There have always been people who sacrificed to help the oppressed. Men who stood with women liberating themselves, whites who helped blacks escape slavery, people who hid Jews during the Holocaust, etc. That doesn't mean grateful blacks should let white folks as a whole off the hook.
