Let me understand this. We are celebrating the end of slavery in this country but I cannot mention that 3 democrats, Obama, Biden and Harris have ancestry that owned slaves?

Every Americans should know this. I'm starting a thread.

 

Regarding reparations perhaps those people whose ancestors really owned slaves should have to pay. I'm all for that.

 

You do not know the democrat party supported slavery? Or that the republican party was founded by abolitionists to end slavery?

 

Well, were it that simple, we actually have some work to do: First Amendment:

“Congress shall make no law abridging the right of the people to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”​

And as Chief Justice John Marshall’s declared, every provision of the constitution was intended to have an effect:

“No provision of the Constitution was meant to be without effect…” Marbury v. Madison, (1803)​

So, if the government has acted unjustly toward any, yes, we have a guaranteed right to petition for redress. That was a hard fought battle for a power reserved to The People that dates to the Magna Carta.

As for helping those that are struggling to feel fully included in our society described as We The People Of The United States, of course I'm willing to help, with my own money, without regard to immutable characteristics. How much of your own money are you willing to contribute to the same?

 

Those are all great ideas, Zorro. I am retired and living on a fixed income, so I can't contribute anything right now.

 

I always find the self-righteousness interesting when someone who will not pay toward something claims someone else is obligated to when they are under no such contractual obligation to do so. Well, other than the general urging of all toward acts of charity, which, we all support.

 

There are some things individual citizens are NOT responsible for. That is my humble opinion.

I think blacks should get reparations for their ancestors that endured slavery
and whites should get reparations for their ancestors that gave their blood or livelihood to free them

then all are happy - be a good time to give them with the economy the way it is

Reparations are not based on how much White DNA a Black person has. Almost every Black person in the USA has White DNA. Female slaves were used sexually on a regular basis.
Reparations will be based on having ENSLAVED AFRICAN ancestors.
If Whites fought to free the slaves, they don't deserve any reward for that---they are the ones who enslaved them in the first place.

no, they were not the slave owners, they were the good guys, you're lumping all whites in one group and calling them all bad, same as someone saying all blacks are criminals cause some are

I guess all back peopl eback then were bad because they sold the slaves in the first place, thus making them slaves by that logic

 

Ex-slave families were promised 40 acres and a mule. They didn't get it. Today one acre of farm land goes for $3,160 and a mule costs $3,500. That comes to $129,900 they are owed.

You said that, and I agree, slave owners raped black women, any of those children are decedents of slave owners, so should decedents of slave owners get reparations - as I said, it gets complicated

 

If a woman is RAPED she has no control over who the Father of her child will be.
So your premise makes no sense.

 

The racist persecution of black Americans did not end with emancipation. IMO they are owed far more that $129,900.

 

what does that have to do with anything, the childs still has the rapist's genes regardless - the child's ancestors are the same as the fathers

one of the child's ancestors is a slave owner, no changing that reality - same would be true of a white decadent of a slave owner

heck, some want to blame whites that do not even have a slave owner as an ancestor, and in fact their ancestors were the ones that helped to free the slaves from the slave owners
