I've literally, on this forum, been called a "Marxist" for saying that Trump has betrayed capitalism. I've been called a "leftist" for criticizing Trump's reliance on leftist economic sources. The problem with the OP is that it points out, quite rightly, fake news . . . of the type that Trump and his followers spout almost daily.
That's true, Trump specifically excluded white nationalists from his "fine people" statement . . . yet he continues to employ a white nationalist without criticizing him, much less letting him go. Stephen Miller was caught promoting white nationalist literature. He has not reversed course. He still has his job.
RINOs and leftists. Yep. Sad. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Republican Party if Trump goes down. Trump will unquestionably retain power over his followers, which in turn gives them power over their representatives. If the GOP continues to push the "Trump agenda," I don't see traditional Republicans returning to the party. Hopefully, enough will be defeated as to make that possibility moot. (Am I the only one who finds it extremely disturbing that a reality TV personality conned a few members of the US House and Senate to go on record asking the POTUS to prove he was born in this country? And based on a lie? Am I the only one?)
So Steven Miller is a white nationalist? Are ther more Jewish white nationalists or just Steven Miller?
Agreed - he didn't say Nazis were fine people. He said there were fine people on both sides. And if you're okay with that statement, it is your right. That statement, to me, showed Trump's inability to show the courage to denounce white supremacists. He took the coward's way out and said there were fine people on both sides, not bothering to address the issue of the bad people.
I'm looking forward, specifically, to the likes of Graham, Cruz, Rubio and McConnell if Trump loses. They have done such a 180 regarding Trump, I'm interested to see if they come full circle and go back to calling him names.
Just keep repeating yourself. As if it will do any good. Trump’s core political message is white resentment and bigotry. From day one. And the people who try and parse it and deny it are usually the target audience.
He said there were fine people on both sides. There were people on the anti-removal side who were not Nazis. "Fine people on both sides" =/= "EVERYONE on both sides is fine," and he specifically stated that there were terrible people on both sides. But he specifically excludes white nationalists from his statement about "fine people." I supported removing the statue, and all other Confederate monuments, from public property. I support removing Trump. But he clearly wasn't talking about Nazis when he was talking about the "fine people." Trump: "And you had people -- and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly."
That’s the way most of the world saw it. And why people recoiled at Trump’s cravenness. This was one day after these “very fine people” staged a Nazi style torchlight parade in the shadow of Thomas Jefferson.
Are you sure he hasn't? Lol. I like Bill Kristol. I voted for McCain, so it's kind of a love/hate relationship. I completely disagreed with the neocons, including Kristol, but I do respect intellectuals, and I agree with him on Trump. I've always liked George Will. Joe Biden is right. We share more similarities as Americans than differences.
BS. He only said that three days later, after having been shamed into it. He has subsequently continued to soft peddle anything that might go against his running white resentment core message.
At no point did he clearly label the Nazis, specifically, as fine people. None at all. The only time he mentioned them specifically was to condemn them. He should still be criticized for his response, of course, but it just wouldn't be true to say that he called Nazis "fine people." I can't throw a rock without hitting a good reason to oust Trump in November, but this just isn't one of them.
He did denounce white supremacists and Nazis. Here is the transcripts in his own words. It's amazing to me how successful the #FakeNews media have manage to fool this many people into believing a hoax.
Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. Kinda hard to go back like nothing ever happened. "Third time's a charm" doesn't work if you keep marrying the same person. It depends on Trump. What will happen to QAnon if Trump loses? I doubt they will disband. We'll see just how much of a following remains after Trump leaves office. He and his family aren't going to remain silent.
That's one reason Trump isn't up to the job. Leadership requires the skill of being unequivocal when making public statements. When a leader isn't, he needs to issue a correction in 20 minutes, not 3 days. This is what liberals call a dog whistle, and I have no reason to think it isn't.
The earliest mention I can find of the "fine people" statement is during the same interview in which he said he wasn't talking about Nazis. Overall, though, I agree with you. It is especially important to note that 1) He continues to employ an outed white nationalist 2) He dragged his feet in refuting the support of other white nationalists. And I'm sure that's only the tip of the iceberg.
