She was tough on poor people who commit victimless crimes.

Her job as a prosecutor is to fairly prosecute cases. Not defend arguably unfair labor laws when it comes to inmates.

She simply defended the law as it exists. It’s not up to her to advocate a position other than the one written into law.

Keeping people in prison simply to have cheap labor has nothing to do with being tough on crime.

I agree, the ("Repub") Koch brothers looking to make a few shekels out of privatizing the carceral industry... Makes 'philanthropy' look mighty slimy, imho...

O & yeh, housing for illegals - Bring em all in, $'s on ea. 'head' of "stock" brought over... disgusting & repugnant!

"Cool Hand Luke" is one of the greatest movies of all time.

It gave us, "What we have here ... is a failure ... to communicate", and "I'm shakin'' it, boss".

    Bring back the chain gangs.

Harris also threatened to put the predominantly minority parents of truant children in jail.

She's big on breaking up families.

And also on going down on her boss thats twice her age.

This Country imprisons way to many people for way too long.

The prison system has become a money maker for States, Counties
    And the Federal Government. Enough!

I'm in favor of prison labor in respect to supporting the prison system. Some prison locations are favorable to animal farming so they would farm animals to feed their fellow prisoners. Other prison locations aren't, so they would be come tailors making the uniforms for their fellow prisoners, yet others may be in farmland and would grow vegetables for their fellow inmates and so on. They could serve as participating members of our society by relieving the public some of the tax burden to take care of them.

How is it a money maker? The cost to incarcerate each prisoner in California for a years is $81,203. How are they making money on that?

So am I, but do they really support it? (they aren't employees)

San Quentin, etc used to know about supporting the prison system.

No, they couldn't but at least they grew their own food and had decades to decide their graves.

Many decided for the state burial, those graves are gone now.
