I will give you the link to all of his papers. Thus you can decide which are most pertinent to what you wish to study.

One thing about mountains is the cooling effect. We pilots have been taught rules on this, that per each 1000 ft elevation, it cools 2 degrees Celsius. (3.5 degrees F)

    http://www.swaviator.com/html/issueJF03/Basics1203.html

Also, hard as it is to accept, Antarctica is also called a desert.

Consider water flowing down a stream. Who has never seen a waterfall? Or how water churns over very large rocks in the stream?

Mountains have the same impact on airflows. For instance, when taking off at the Truckee Airport not too far from Lake Tahoe, in CA, one easily felt the winds I flew into going westerly. They were what most call ... downdrafts. As I hit a downdraft, how to correctly fly the airplane? The deal was to maintain airspeed. Do not let the airspeed drop if at all possible. On very hot days, it can really challenge the pilot unless he really knows what he is doing.

Similar problem departing Lake Tahoe. Often you take off with the lake at your rear. As you head at mountains, your challenge is to gain altitude and not hit a mountain. Most pilots manage to depart both airports as intended.

What this suggests to you all is most are not aware of what mountains do to weather and climate.

Robert, some years ago, I departed Lake Tahoe with my wife and a friend. The controller told me to turn right and gain altitude over the golf course. I opted to turn left, over the trees, however, accustomed to a much lower density altitude. The Cessna 172 refused to climb and I was committed. To maintain airspeed, I remained less than 50 feet above the treetops, sweating bullets. I was so intent on flying level I couldn't even tell you what I did with the flaps. Stress really interferes with rationality, as you know.

We made it out uneventfully, but while I was heading over Lake Tahoe for a beautiful view, the ATC said "Next time gain altitude over the golf course!"

Got into worse trouble than that at Santa Monica Airport on climbout, alone. Ground layer was coming in and I departed, blind.
Horizon started falling off and I was still very low. Tired, nervous, I forgot which was turn was which and made it worse. Just before going into a graveyard spiral, I decided to break out, and pulled up hard. Another fifty or hundred feet of ground layer depth, and I might not have cleared. I'm very good in simulated instrument conditions, but fatigue and stress change everything.

Small aircraft are just too expensive to operate these days, at $200 per hour, which works out to $2 a mile. And weather doesn't interfere with your driving either.

The Paris Accords didn't really do that much to curb total global warming around the planet. If anything it was designed to hurt the US more than anything.

I would like to see a different set of Accords where all countries have to follow the same guidelines.

The whole reasoning given by China of "But but but, the US has had decades to "be dirty" so we should have a right to be to" is absolute bull. The fact that liberals are ok with this makes me believe it has mostly to do with politics, not making the planet cleaner.

In the OP's defense, I have heard Righties claim how much ice was increasing over the last few years.

It is frustrating to have a discussion with anyone anywhere because people don't argue/debate to fix problems, they do so to be "right"

Uh huh. Oh those who don't remember the pre-EPA days.

    Pittsburgh.png

    They don't remember Pittsburgh...

    LA_Smog.jpg

Or the smog alerts that advised people to stay indoors so they could breath filtered air.

    cuyahoga.png

    Or the Cuyahoga burning.

Agreed, we sure have gotten better as a society just by changing the culture to actually giving a flying F.

Kinda makes it seem like it may be a waste of money to build some huge buerocracy, we can just further feed this cultural change through other benefits to encourage clean earth tech.

The effort is to expand that into the rest of the world.

The current administration has stated, in no uncertain terms, that protecting the environment is nowhere on the list behind maximizing short term profits.

I recall back to around 1942 and testify again how much it stunk in the SF Bay.

But we took care of those problems. As the photos above prove.

Tahoe is a breeze compared to Truckee Airport. But I know precisely what you are talking about. I have both landed and departed from Lake Tahoe a few times.

A lot also depends on the air temperature since you are at a fairly high altitude.

Nothing wrong with other countries cleaning up their environment. I commend them. But I'm not going to pay for it.

We pay for keeping our environment clean, they pay for theirs. As Trump says, the days of the U.S. writing billion dollar checks to China and India for their environment are over.

It's not "theirs" it is ours. All of us. Or maybe you breath different air and drink different water?

Taxpayers in Alabama should not pay to clean the air in Shanghai.

This is a very simple concept. Is this over your head?

Of course now the euros are all mad that we are not footing the bill and have said no, shooting themselves in the dick.

196 nations signed up to visit the big ATM that is the US, and Trump said maybe we should take another look at this.
