Blockade? Are you referring to disease control by county health department?

Japan was provoked into doing something because we cut off their oil. The "something" of attacking the U.S. Pacific fleet was a huge miscalculation. Didn't they study our Civil War to see what kind of people we are? How could they have thought we wouldn't go after them? Attacking Pearl Harbor was like kicking a sleeping Rotweiler--a really, really bad idea. Americans have an "Off" switch that seems to break if you jam it on by attacking them first.

They thought the country wouldn't want to enter another big war since it was already involved in Europe.

Also they thought that sinking all the battleships in the Pacific would paralyze the U.S. Pacific fleet long enough for it to be too late by the time a response could be mounted. That turned out not to be the case because battleships quickly became outdated technology, replaced by aircraft carriers.

The Japanese also made the mistake of overextending themselves by taking Southern China and Southeast Asia, which is understandable because they were tempting targets (big populations, wealth, not well defended because they had been under colonialism and the European forces had pulled out due to the war in Europe).

Imperial Japan was busy trying to be like Great Britain.

Before Japan started building its own warships they bought their warships from England.

Even today Japan drives on the wrong side of the road.

Japan believed that once the United States fleet was sunk during the mother of all naval battles that America would sue for peace and leave the Orient and the Western Pacific for good.

The Imperial Navy's war plan for the big naval battle that was suppose to take place in the Central Pacific sinking the U.S. Navy fleet and it's troop ships headed for the Philippine Islands on paper looks like it would have been successful.

But that naval battle never happened because War Plan Orange allowed Japan to invade and occupy the Philippines.

They needed the oil and the Dutch East Indies had it, so they had to do something. I think they should have gone after the oil and left our holdings alone.

Throughout human history people have proven to be stupid, lazy, lacking in integrity, easily mislead and they show no hope of improving anytime in the near future.

-Tom Waits in some other thread..... or maybe this one I don't remember.

I'm an Independent not a democrat

Although because R is the mentally ill voting block they far easier to mislead than D's. i.e. Birthers, 1000 years of darkness, the death panel, believing that there were pieces of U.S. cities and towns that were under sharia law because a black D with a funny name was in office, thinking there were terrorist training camps in gun toting red states because there was a black D with a funny name in office.... the brown terrorists not the white ones, calling themselves fiscal conservatives yet voting for the exact opposite, thinking that sending illegals on a road trip and letting traitors steal America's money via a wall will have any meaningful effect on illegal immigration. Threatening to jail the criminals responsible for illegal immigration if they don't start hiring legal workers is the only way to stop it but they would never, never do that. I made a satirical thread on that one. I've made serious threads on it before but the only right leaning people that even consider this idea are libertarians and only ones with integrity.

When people say big new it doesn't mean that it has been in the news before it means within a month or so its in Time, Life, Newsweek, segments and pieces in all the major news outlets, 60 minutes etc.

We would have kept after them even if they had taken Midway and Hawaii. They attacked our fleet. Bad idea.

If the top 3 elected Democrats in VA haven't dented your confidence in the intelligence of D voters nothing can. ;-)

    Astute post :applause:

Republican mayor of San Diego wants "bridges not walls" just like the growers/ donors will vote Republican so long as the supply of Mexican laborers is undisrupted .

The Mayor of San Diego wan't a bridge going over the existing border wall in San Diego ?

Why not just use the existing port of entry where there is no bridge.

It works when one plays by the rules.

That's their long term plan, kill the weak before they are born, and give them enough time, and that morph into, kill the elderly because they are weak as well.

Wholeheartedly agree and remember the braceros harvesting strawberries alongside local public school kids. We played and ate the berries while they moved like a marching force singing songs in Spanish. All of California was hurt when braceros were awarded wages commensurate to American workers. That encouraged braceros and other migrants to just stay in California and work in the fields/ groves guaranteeing employment opportunities for Mexicans crossing the border. Even with the UFW, California growers need this labor force.

'Secure and Open Border ... a Story of Success,' Says San Diego Mayor" https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politi...rder-a-story-of-success-says-san-diego-mayor/

"San Diego's mayor indicated he doesn't want wall-building at the southern border to dampen trade opportunities or "cross-border communication" with Tijuana.
Kevin Faulconer, a Republican who has served since 2014, is in Washington this week along with other city leaders from across the country for the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meeting."

Single payor is already kicking the elderly to the curb.

"The sorts of problems that we found in researching our report were patients unable to eat, with their food taken away, slowly starving. What may sound trivial - glasses, hearing aids or false teeth left out of reach of elderly patients - is a real offence to their dignity. We came across the inappropriate use of sedatives to keep difficult patients quiet. In fact, we heard of other patients left to lie in their own waste. The worst inappropriate discharge case was a husband in hospital whose wife had died, and who was discharged on the day of the funeral which his son was attending, unable to visit the care home. We found an 80-year-old female patient who was sexually assaulted but for whom no action was taken; and an 89-year-old lady admitted to hospital with pressure sores and dehydration because her care home said that was not their job to deal with them. These are all infringements of patients' human rights: the right not to be subjected to inhumane and degrading treatment, to private and home life, to equality and non-discrimination and, in the extreme cases, the right to life."
THE GUARDIAN, Human rights and the NHS, In our report on elderly care in the UK we discovered some shocking abuse. A major culture change is now required in the NHS., By Andrew Dismore,16 Aug 2007.https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2007/aug/16/humanrightsandthenhs

Independents use to have a saying. "I voted for Nader".
I voted for Nader and Ron Paul.... this ends my list. I yelled at my tv "Are You F***ing Kidding me!" when karry and then bush got the nomination as well as gore, romney and a few others, my poor tv use to get yelled at a lot.

Loons are the only honest politicians.
