Those states have always been what could be called, liberal, progressive states. I have no problem with that, as long as it does not become extremism to the left. Where it becomes nothing but human folly, and the exhibition of a lack of intelligence. For in many cases it is a move away from basic human responsibility, individual responsibility as a human being. I think that is the flaw in leftist extremism, as seen in the US.

The climate is changing. Summers in 1950s Los Angeles were warm and very dry. LA was never humid for any length of time. It's like weather has moved north from Mexico.

In America many of the major trade unions supported Hitler and Nazi Germany.
During the Battle of Britain American trade unions like the AFL, UAW, Longshoremen's, CIO, USW, etc. conducted wild cat strikes at defense plants and on the docks to prevent war materials from reaching England.
Best example was the North American Aviation strike on the west coast.

The trade unions in America were heavily infiltrated by CPUSA who got their marching orders from the Kremlin.

Then on June 22, 1941 the liberal/socialist Hitler attacked his allie, Comrade Stalin and the left in America had a meltdown. How could one socialist attack another comrade and Nazis became bad people. Nazis were no longer left wing but became right wing. Even though the Nationalist Socialist in Germany always and continued to despise monarchies and the aristocrats which made them left wing.

Periods of humidity during summer when the monsoon thunderstorms spill out over the Basin occasionally happen. But warmer-than-average ocean temps like last summer [70's] can create uncommonly high humidity. It's great for ocean sports but makes for summer discomfort.

<snicker> OMG. I know what you mean.
Yeah, because you knew if you didn't fall asleep you'd be awake until you conked out from exhaustion.
I worked outside when I was in school and I only got to that point a few times. It's an awful feeling you don't forget.
Golf courses pour water on the fairways early in the morning. It sure as heck doesn't stay in the ground.
The only relief I know of from unrelenting heat is jumping in water that's lower than your body temperature.

Yeah, and the Right only unified against Pinochet when his crimes were exposed by his conservative successors. So what?

No it isn't. Perhaps a quick refresher course on statistics might help.

Yes endemic typhus as I stated earlier. I assume you know what endemic means and that it has nothing to do with the number of homeless or how dirty a particular street may be.

Its time to seriously worry if it become epidemic (human transmitted thru infected body lice).

Franco, the Shah and Pinochet thrived under Republican and Democrat presidents.

The Russian monarchy was dead and buried long before the 1930s. The gushing support for Stalin had nothing to do with opposition to a monarchy that had already been liquidated - in detail.

“The left and its many "peace" organs went from advocating war or peace depending on the state of Soviet/Nazi relations. The National Student League, and the Student League for Industrial Democracy, and their friends in the American League Against War and Fascism, came together with the American Student Union and almost the entire American left to oppose US support for England, France, and the other targets of Hitler's aggression."

"The Hitler-Stalin Pact for a time returned the ASU to an antiwar position. At its December 1939 convention the erstwhile antifascist organization denounced the war against Hitler as 'imperialist'." Guenter Lewy, "The Cause that Failed", Oxford University Press, p.178.

CA, was the American paradise. "CA here I come" was almost a new American anthem, but government everywhere is inherently malignant.
CA is now riddled with Big Bad Government from brain to lymph system.

The real political spectrum stretches from totalitarianism on one end to the smallest least intrusive government that human beings could ever hope to create on the other.

Every flavor of socialism including National Socialism belongs somewhere on the same Big Government end of that spectrum.

"It is perhaps for this reason that "post modern" culture is occasionally convulsed by scandals in which the fascist pasts of influential artists or thinkers are dramatically revealed or shown to be more extensive or important to their work than is commonly assumed. … The issue at stake is less the details of these political commitments than the possibility that these figures has helped to create a "post fascist culture" an intellectual and artistic environment in which the insidious presence of fascism shapes us more than we realize. As Steven Ungar states in his essay on Heidegger, "this is one of our big cultural nightmares." Richard J. Golsan, Editor, Fascism, Aesthetics, and Culture, University Press of New England Hanover NH 1992. P x, xvi.

Politics. A majority of Americans unwisely thought they could avoid confronting Germany and Japan. Republicans were more openly isolationist.

Let's say there's some truth to your revisionist history (not that I would agree). What about the other Republicans?

Funny how the thread is now discussing irrelevant stuff like Nixon and other political BS.

But let's get back on topic -

We are told there an "epidemic" of typhus in Los Angeles. I have given the OP and Dr Moi the opportunity to prove their case that millions have died or are in danger of dying from this plague.

So far, they have failed to produce any such evidence.

Like it or not, some day forum right wingers are going to face the fact that they are going to be called out on their lies. Once again I am doing so as I have done repeatedly on this forum. As usual, when I do so, they run away from the thread they created and run off into another thread. Further, the right wingers cover up for them by jumping off into irrelevant stuff like Nixon.

Dr Moi has said I should not refer to myself as Mr_Truth because my challenge was, somehow, wrong. As you can plainly see from the above posts, my challenge was perfectly warranted. Dr Moi needs to produce the proofs that a plague which kills millions in LA is taking place or he needs to retract his insulting statement about me.

    Still waiting .....

The kids weren't Nazis, either. They were just your typical, poorly educated American.

The fuse for war with Japan was lit in 1905.

The American military started writing it's war plans for the war against Japan right after WW l and adopted War Plan Orange in 1924.

War Plan Orange was the war plan that the United States used to defeat Japan during WW ll.

    FYI:
The Philippines were "expendable" and Plan Orange called for allowing Japan to occupy the Philippine Islands.
As in John Ford's classic WW ll movie..."They Were Expendable."

The U.S. War Department started developing it's war plans for war in Europe in 1934, War Plan Rainbow.
The U.S.military used War Plan Rainbow 5 to defeat Germany during WW ll.

I became ill w/ the symptoms of murine typhus [minus the rash] as a young man; in a way it reminded me of German measles I had as a child. I let the flea population in and around my house go too long.

All Big Government Republicans are progressives, and that would include almost all Republican politicians.

“Republicans formally took over the House that Wednesday, January 5. … Such benchmark days in the institution mix a sense of slight renewal with a hammering sameness. Former members and sparkling lobbyist and musty perennials wander the wide halls past lost newcomers. Voters might have turned out the old and the entrenched in the wave election of 2010. But one of the palpable messages of a day like that says that Club membership is for life.” Mark Leibovich, This Town, Penguin Books, 2013, p.199.

If their position is that "millions have died or are in danger of dying" from typhus in LA they are exaggerating the threat.

If they are calling the outbreak of typhus in LA an epidemic they are on firmer ground.

    "epidemic
    adjective
    ep·i·dem·ic | \ ˌe-pə-ˈde-mik \
    Definition of epidemic
    (Entry 1 of 2)

1: affecting or tending to affect a disproportionately large number of individuals within a population, community, or region at the same time typhoid was epidemic
    2a: excessively prevalent
    b: CONTAGIOUS sense 4epidemic laughter
3: characterized by very widespread growth or extent : of, relating to, or constituting an epidemic the practice had reached epidemic proportions
    epidemic

    noun
    ep·i·dem·ic | \ ˌe-pə-ˈde-mik \
Definition of epidemic (Entry 2 of 2)

Suggesting America has one party, the Business Party, with two wings--Democrats and Republicans.
Opposition to the Bolsheviks went on for years. There was support for the idea of sticking up for workers even though the lie of the Bolsheviks was understood even by many cynical leftwing supporters. Does that remind you of Trump and his bogus MAGA operation, a lie swallowed by many of his naïve lower-income white supporters?
Socialists worldwide thought they could have peace by appeasing fascists. The Spanish Civil War should disabuse anyone of the idea leftists were siding with fascists.
There was a lot of pressure through trade unions who got support from Communists. That didn't stop Roosevelt from supporting the UK.

The military have war plans for fighting just about everyone. I hope you don't think this suggests we were hoping to start a war with Japan.

So, what does this mean? You think most Republicans are progressives? You think Republicans aren't progressives, but they're controlled by progressive pols? Who controls the pols? Corporations?
