So the MAGA hat guy responded in kind and the nutjob couldn't handle it and had to draw a gun because of an insult. He will lose his right to own a gun and spend some time inside a jail cell. I don't know about Kentucky or Tennessee, but in Texas, you lose your defense to prosecution if you start or escalate an argument that results in you shooting someone. Phillips didn't think that one through.

'Skyrocketing' you say. Care to put some meat on those bones? From what to what? What is the scale of the 'skyrocketing?' How does it look over a 10 year period? How about 20? How about per 100,000? Lets see if you can get past tabloid headlines & NRA propaganda.

For bonus points, how many US states have lower homicide rates than highly urbanised & ethnically diverse London? I'll give you a hint, it is more than zero but can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Not a good look for the US, given that you would expect the murder rate of a huge city of almost 9 million to be higher than any geographic entity with rural areas.

I can also tell you that no US state with a population anything close to London has anywhere near that few homicides. The closest is Massachusetts with two million fewer people (about 25% less) and 50 more homicides (about 40% more). In all the other cases the number of homicides are closer to 2, 3 or even 4 times the number in London.

Sure you want to use London as an example of anything other than how much safer a huge British city is than virtually any US state.
