How exactly are you measuring the frequency and magnitude of these natural incidences over the past thousands of years? Does the possibility that they are worse/more than before leave no room for coincidence?

Wildfires are argued to be a good and natural thing for the habitat.

Tornados and Earthquakes aren't new. If they showed up in different places watch this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kaBU5oqFGc It doesn't mean it's because of this but are they grounded to a specific area?

I don't think we are in the end times. I think the change in milleniums got us all thinking about time. There are too many people looking for the end of time. I think when the end times come most of the people on Earth will not be expecting it. Revelation, to me, reads like most people weren't expecting the world to end. There are signs that we are heading towards the end but we may have centuries to go.

Of course ... of that day and of that hour no one knows. Me included!!

As an atheist I do not argue. I read these posts to laugh at the ignorance, stupidity and foolishness of so many of "gods critters".

The easiest nonsense "prediction" to make is that there will be fires, storms, earthquakes and/or wars. Since there will always be these things any idiot (and some not smart enough to be an idiot) can and do predict them.

I think we'll have a little warning before we're wiped out. Whether it's a supervolcano or large heavenly object hitting us, we'd have some advance warning.

On the other hand, maybe we'll just be hit by a gamma ray burst from a supernova I probably wouldn't have any warning for that.

The stubborn Beaver Creek wildfire has 1,200 firefighters toiling tirelessly in Idaho to keep it from spreading. The wildfire scorching Sun Valley, Idaho, has already consumed more than 100,000 acres, and threatened 5,000 homes. Sun Valley is home to many pricey spreads, including second homes reportedly owned by actors Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis. Lightning ignited the fire more than two weeks ago. Over the weekend, firefighters benefited from cloud cover and higher humidity. But they only managed to establish 9% by early Monday morning. The forecast for the next couple of days brings both good and bad news. The rain from thunderstorms could help quench the flames, while lightning might spark new fires. Gov. Butch Otter had nothing but praise for the crews. "They look the worst for wear but you see that smile come across their face and their attitude about how they're being treated and how they're being supported by our local folks, by the county folks, the city folks (and) the state department of lands," he said.

Idaho under threat from raging wildfires

Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfus was among those expressing gratitude. "The #beavercreekfire is ravaging my family's hometown, Ketchum, ID," Dreyfus posted on his official Twitter account. "Thank you, firefighters, and be safe. Houses aren't worth lives." The fire isn't the only one burning up Idaho. At least nine large fires have scorched 407,883 acres across Idaho, which is experiencing the most wildland fire activity of any state, according to the Boise-based National Interagency Fire Center. Meanwhile, a brush fire in Polk County, Oregon, destroyed a family's private vineyard. Its cause? Fire officials believe the owner hit rocks witha lawn mower sparking it. "That ignited the area around him, and before they could contain it, it started spreading, and as you can tell by the wind up here, it didn't take long for it to spread," Bill Hahn, fire chief of Southwest Polk, told CNN affiliate KOIN.

Soggy South

Meanwhile, a stalled front stretching along the Gulf and Southeast Coasts will bring heavy rain through early this week, fueled by abundant moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Flood watches and warnings are in place from the Florida panhandle to the Carolinas. Soils in this region are saturated, creating a potential for flash floods. Six inches of rain soaked southern Mississippi Sunday, leaving First United Gospel Assembly church in Gulfport surrounded by waist-deep water. "We were in service and we came out and it was flooded out here," Bishop Otis Rankin who told CNN affiliate WLOX, looking across the church parking lot. The only worse flooding, he said, was Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The flood waters hit William Harold too. "We're in a low lying area, so it floods from time to time, but I got up and there was actually two inches of water in the den," he said. "So we grabbed all the towels we could and started sopping up what we could."

Rip currents

In South Florida, strong onshore winds and choppy surf stirred up rip currents throughout the weekend in South Florida, drowning an elderly couple off Miami Beach. Police said it was one of 50 incidents where swimmers had to rescued from the rough waters. The couple were swimming with a red float, appearing fine one minute and under water the next, witnesses told CNN affiliate WSVN. Beachgoers along with Ocean Rescue guards rushed to pull them from the water, according to WSVN. "They were in cardiac arrest when fire rescue arrived," said Capt. Adonis Garcia, spokesman for Miami Beach Fire Rescue. "We worked them all the way to the hospital at Mount Sinai when they were pronounced dead."

At least 100 killed after 7.5-magnitude earthquake hits Afghanistan
Oct 26, 2015: A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck a remote area of northeastern Afghanistan on Monday, shaking the capital Kabul and killing 100 people - 76 in Pakistan and 24 in Afghanistan - officials said.

The death toll could climb in coming days because communications were down in much of the rugged Hindu Kush mountain range area where the quake was centred. Shockwaves were felt in northern India and in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, where hundreds of people ran out of buildings as the ground rolled beneath them. All Indians in Kabul are safe and there are no reports of damage to Indian owned property in the city in the wake of the devastating earthquake, an Indian embassy official said. "As of now, there are no reports of casualties or injuries among Indians," the official said, adding that Indian ambassador Amar Sinha was going around the city to assess the situation.

Patients are brought to a hospital in Mingora after 7.5 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan.

The quake was 213km (132 miles) deep and centred 254km (158 miles) northeast of Kabul in a remote area of Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush mountain range. The US Geological Survey initially measured the quake's intensity at 7.7 then revised it down to 7.5. Aftershocks continue to hit the affected areas. Twelve girls were killed in a stampede while trying to escape from their school in the north Afghan city of Taloqan while five people were killed in the eastern province of Nangahar. "The students rushed to escape the school building in Taluqan city (capital of Takhar), triggering a stampede," Takhar education department chief Enayat Naweed said. "Twelve students, all minors, were killed and 35 others were injured."

In northwestern Pakistan, at least 12 people were killed, including one in the city of Peshawar, according to government officials. Injured people were pouring into Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital, an official said. "We received 50 injured and more are being shifted. The injured suffered multiple injuries due to building collapse," said hospital spokesman Syed Jamil Shah. In the Afghan capital, Kabul, buildings shook violently but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. International aid agencies working in the northern areas of Afghanistan reported that cellphone coverage in the affected areas remained down in the hour after the initial quake.

Mon Oct 26, 2015 - A major earthquake struck the remote Afghan northeast on Monday, killing more than 200 people in Afghanistan and nearby northern Pakistan, injuring hundreds and sending shock waves as far as New Delhi, officials said.

The death toll could climb in coming days because communications were down in much of the rugged Hindu Kush mountain range where the quake was centered. In one of the worst incidents, at least 12 girls were killed in a stampede to flee their school building in Taloqan, just west of Badakhshan province where the tremor's epicenter was located. "They fell under the feet of other students," said Abdul Razaq Zinda, provincial head of the Afghan National Disaster Management Agency, who reported heavy damage in Takhar.

Just over a decade ago, a 7.6 magnitude quake in another part of northern Pakistan killed about 75,000 people. In Afghanistan, where rescue and relief work is likely to be complicated by security threats created by an escalating Taliban insurgency, at least 52 people were reported dead in several provinces. In addition to the 12 schoolgirls in Takhar, officials said seven people died in the eastern province of Nangarhar, two in Nuristan province in the northeast, 22 in eastern Kunar province and nine in Badakhshan, where hundreds were killed in mudslides last year. Hundreds of houses were also destroyed, creating additional hardship, with cold weather setting in.

Wildfires force children to flee from California summer camps
Sunday 9th July, 2017 - Wildfires have swept across wide areas of the western US and Canada, destroying homes, forcing thousands to flee and temporarily trapping children and staff at a California camp ground.

In northern California, a wildfire swept through grassy foothills in the Sierra Nevada and destroyed at least 10 structures and threatened more than 750 homes. The blaze about 60 miles north of Sacramento grew rapidly to more than seven square miles and was nearly 20% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. "It made a huge run last night," fire spokeswoman Mary Ann Aldrich said. More homes were destroyed but fire officials have not had a chance to assess the damage. Instead, they were focused on protecting structures while battling the fire in hot, sometimes windy conditions. "It's far from out, we're going to be here for several days if not more," Ms Aldrich said.

The area burning was about 10 miles south of Oroville, where spillways in the nation's tallest dam began crumbling from heavy rains this winter and led to temporary evacuation orders for 200,000 residents downstream. Authorities said the fire sent hundreds of people fleeing from their homes. In southern California, residents and campers were sent scrambling as two fires exploded in size at separate ends of Santa Barbara County. Crews were getting a break from slightly cooler temperatures and diminishing winds on Sunday as they battled the pair of blazes that destroyed structures and closed a highway.

One of the fires grew to 12 square miles, traversing a mountain range and heading south towards coastal Goleta. "The plan is to hit it with air tankers to keep it from moving to the south and to the east," said county fire Captain Dave Zaniboni. "There's less heat and less wind, which makes things a little easier." There was minimal containment and flames shut down State Route 154, which is expected to remain closed for days. At least 20 structures burned. About 90 children and 50 counsellors were stuck on Saturday at the Circle V Ranch and had to take shelter until they could be safely evacuated.

Crews were also using an air attack against another blaze about 50 miles north that exploded in size to 37.5 square miles. About 200 rural homes east of Santa Maria were evacuated after the fire broke out on Saturday and was fed by dry gusts. In Colorado, firefighters built containment lines around about half the wildfire that forced the evacuation of hundreds of people near Breckenridge. The fire has not spread since it broke out on Wednesday and was still less than a square mile on Sunday. In rural Arizona, fire officials said three homes were among 10 buildings that were burned. The wildfire there has led to the evacuation of the entire town of Dudleyville, about 100 miles south east of Phoenix.

A wildfire burning near Summer Lake in south-central Oregon has destroyed a hunting cabin and an outbuilding. In Nevada, fire officials ordered evacuations for a wildfire near the area where another blaze has already burned for days. In Canada, firefighters were contending with more than 200 wildfires burning in British Columbia that had destroyed dozens of buildings, including several homes and two airport hangars. The three biggest fires, which ranged in size from five to eight square miles, had forced thousands of people to flee.

The Ashcroft fire, about 100 kilometres west of Kamloops, ballooned Friday from seven to 40 square kilometres, prompting officials to order Ashcroft and then nearby Cache Creek to evacuate. “The way that was coming, there was no stopping it,” Duncan said. “We’re talking dry sagebrush, dry grass. What’s going to stop that? That’s just like lighting toilet paper on fire.” Duncan was on the front line of the Barriere wildfire in 2003, which is the last time the provincial government declared a B.C.-wide state of emergency because of fires, but he said it doesn’t compare to his experience in this disaster. “Maybe it’s different because here I was watching my friend’s home, my niece’s home burn,” he said, looking away as he blinked back tears. “What could we do but stand there and watch? Crying isn’t going to bring anything back.”

A thick, smoky haze hung over Kamloops on Saturday, making it difficult to see the dry, brush-covered hills on either side of the Thompson River Valley. Sharon Rene and her husband were still looking for accommodation as of Saturday afternoon after leaving their home in Cache Creek. Rene described watching from her house on Friday as the flames from various fires burned in the surrounding hills. “It was quite surreal. The smoke was this bright, evil-looking, orangey red,” she said. “It moved very quickly on the ridge behind us. We just watched the fire and the smoke going across, hoping it would keep on going. And then we went out the back door and there was another one going up the other hill to the airport.”

Angie Thorne, also a resident of the reserve in Ashcroft, said she and her husband managed to escape with their camper trailer before watching flames engulf their home of more than two decades. “The second trip in to get (my husband) out of there I drove through flames, got to him, told him to get out, then drove through flames to get back,” she said. The family lost a cat, but was later reunited with a black Labrador retriever, which Thorne said had been “scorched and seared.” Thorne said she is grateful her family is safe and for all the help they have received from the community, wiping away tears as she spoke outside the evacuation centre.

Gordon Davis, the centre’s manager, said more than 500 people had registered as of Friday. Some of those who signed in would have represented entire families, he added, describing the mood as anxious. “A lot of them watched their homes burn down,” he said, as workers in yellow vests raced around the overcrowded room. “A lot of them don’t know if their homes are still there. That not knowing is stressful.” Children huddled near their families with brightly coloured hula hoops and bubble-blowing kits. The toys, along with food and other supplies, were donations from local businesses and community members.
