That means that your perspective on the situation there is entirely and only formed by the utterly complicit mainstream media. Authoritarians thrive in Washington DC. Our society is largely ruled by authoritarians who routinely usurp powers they don't lawfully possess.

 

Many people think we live in accordance with democratic principles, and many who think their government has their best interests at heart. When everything the American people believe is false, we will know the success of our misinformation efforts.

If we had a lawful government, if we had constitutional governance, we would not have a government keeping 14000 hours of surveillance footage in "The Peoples House" secret. If we had a lawful government, it would not be holding innocent citizens in prison without honor Habeas Corpus.

To be clear, I'm not basing my position on Ukraine with the assumption that Ukraine is a great and virtuous country. I'm not basing my position on anything assuming that even about the United States where I live.

My position is simple, the people of Ukraine want what they have. And Putin wants to take it from them. That's simply not allowed and should be resisted. If Putin wants a more friendly government in Ukraine, perhaps he could try legal/ethical means to get it? If the people of Ukraine are unhappy with their current political situation, perhaps they should change it. If the United States wants more influence there to counter Russia, then we should do it in ethical and legal means too.

You just don't invade countries without reason. I'm pretty consistent in life with that, so no need try and internet educate people.

Ike's war doesn't even really compare here. WWII was fought in a different time with different rules and expectations. The world has changed since then, significantly and Ike is dead.

Donetsk and Lugansk are illegitimately occupied. There was no movement toward "independence" there until the arrival of Russian forces.

Um, France and Great Britain were actually at one point somewhat part of each other. It all depends who was king and where that king came from.

The republics of Donetsk and Lugansk aren't free, they belong to Russia after a phony referendum was made up.

The funny thing is, prior to this stupid war and the stupidity of Crimea, Ukraine didn't hate Russia at all. They had no real problem with Russia. That's telling. It shows that most of what you're talking about is fabricated crap. These are not bitter enemies. They are closer in many ways than Ukraine is to Finland, for example.

How about this. How many people in those regions want to be part of Russia? However many that is, should go to Russia. Problem solved. Then Russia can defend all it's citizens and they will no longer be in the "clutches" of Ukraine. Ukraine doesn't give up any territory that's rightfully theirs, and Russia doesn't lose any territory that isn't rightfully theirs. See how easy that is? And yet, you and your ilk won't accept that. Why? Because nothing you say is true. The invasion of Ukraine was to install a puppet, Kremlin friendly government to get what Russia think it's owed. Or to stop paying the Ukraine things it doesn't wasn't to pay for anymore. Or to distract from the shithole that is the Russian economy. You pick any of them, it's a bit of all of them. And that is flat wrong no matter how you slice it or how many times you post. It will always be wrong no matter what Ukraine's faults are. Because none of those faults deserve the punishment of ceasing to exist.
