That would be Jane Tiberia, if it is a girl, not Tiberius.

Ahhh music festivals. I I've been going to one about 18 hours away for the past couple years, and between sleeping in Walmart parking lots, and then sleeping in a field for 4 days I have to go almost a week wihout a shower. totally worh it. RooCroo.

Fortunately the other ones I go to are relatively close, so I don't have to go as long without washing.

Only downside of festival life... porta potties. At bonnaroo this year I saw them cleaning porta potties, and figured it was a good opportunity to go to the bathroom without worrying about hepatitis, so I got in line and waited. There was only about twenty people in front of me, but by the time it was my turn, they were pretty much unusable.

    Still totally worth it.

Not the best bit of the whole festival experience, but at the one I go to they've put in alot of effort to keeping them clean and decent (having attendants and cleaners in regular ettendance), and it's pretty much worked - they are never exactly 'pleasant', but they are almost always reasonably clean there now.

We've now had only plastic portaloos for a few years, after a vote on the festival's internet forum (requested by the festival director). They won by a huge majority over the old 'longdrops' we used to have in the campsite - they were just nasty, to the point where I'd hold on until getting into the arena (where they were always plastic portaloos) just to avoid having to use them at all. You had to cover your face with a tshirt while trying to smoke a cigarette just to walk within 50 yards of the things!

We've also managed, after forum pressure and votes, to get them to ban flags on poles from the arena - that's been brilliant. No more having the views of the stage and band, for at least three quaters of the crowd, being blocked by a bunch of donuts at the front waving random flags for no apparent reason. Result!

None of the festivals I've been to have had much of a problem with flags. There's some, but from pictures I've seen that seems to be alot more common at festivals in Europe.

Nope, nor do I wish to - not really my kind of music, generally, and I go to festivals much more for the music than for the 'experience'. I can understand why people go there, though - if the 'festival experience' is what they are after, it's reputed to be about the ultimate manifestation of it.

What really pushed people over the edge into demanding a ban was one particularly bad year when Iron Maiden headlined - there were so many flags that many people just couldn't see the band at all. What finally persuaded the organisers to agree, I think (in addition to our complaints, polls, etc.) was watching the TV coverage of Springsteen from Glastonbury, and realising, with the lower camera angles that they had for wide angles there, what the crowd view of the stage was really like when there were lots of flags (and that 'why don't you just move a bit' is not something that applies, because you just end up behind other flags). The flags look lovely from the stage, and the cameras for the big screens (at that festival) are usually well above that so not effected, so before that I just don't think they'd quite grasped the seriousness of the issue (for those of us who pay lots of money for tickets to see bands, not the back of some tosser's flag!).
