The United States has just dropped a largest non-nuclear bomb on a tunnel camp for ISIS in Afghanistan. The weapon has been on stand buy and is about 11 tons of TNT in power. Basically even underground you become jelly and it seems this will become a new means of killing them when found. <Mod Edit- threads merged. Link is in second post>
21K LB bomb... Boom! http://fox6now.com/2017/04/13/us-drops-largest-non-nuclear-bomb-in-afghanistan/ Trump is sending a message to Iran and North Korea by dropping this bomb, known as: The Mother of all Bombs.
This was supposed to be an ISIS attack, but I wish this would deter that little despot in North Korea. I'm not sure it will. He seems determined. What concerns me is that he doesn't have to hit the continental US to really cause us problems. He can hit a satellite and cause an EMP, and that would cause us some major problems.
Trump is sending a message to the world. Everyone is quickly learning that Mom Jeans is no longer in the White House, there's a real man in charge now.
It is my understanding that he does not, yet, have the ability to actually affix a nuke to one of those missiles for delivery outside his own country. In essence, he has nukes, but he has not yet been able to "weaponize" them. How close he is to that I do not know.
Let me propose a conspiracy theory...We very seldom get to drop these bombs. Perhaps this is both a way to get rid of some evil barbarians and to test the thing for another mission, landing on North Korea's 'lets play with nukes' site. The news is full of speculation they plan to do another illegal test this weekend.
Can he hit a satellite? (Also, thanks merging threads..) He can surely cause us some issues but I think he saber rattles more than he really wants a confrontation. He thinks by continuing his belligerent behavior, he will get concessions. He needs to find a way to stay relevant. I am seriously under the impression the world would be better off without him and his regime around. I am thinking it's time to put pressure on him and see what happens. Risky, but something should have been done a long time ago, IMO.
Well, we have airborne lasers that can knock out a ballistic missile from miles away. The current North Korean leader is large and does not move as swiftly as an ICBM, and has thinner skin. The next time he and his generals are reviewing a crowd, they can be killed with a laser. http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/abl/
The MOAB is derived for the daisy cutters used to make LZ's in Nam. they started out at 5,000 lbs. of explosives and became heavier. They're designed to detonate 6 feet above ground. The MOAB has a destructive blast radius of one mile.
The MOAB has been around awhile now. One was dropped just for Sadaam Hussein to see what we had. Now I'm not saying you said it's the first time I just thought I would let you know.
I agree, but the idea that he just has to go high enough to hit the satellite to wreak havoc in the US, and not necessarily far enough to hit the US is a game changer. I read somewhere that an EMP over the continental US could eliminate 90% of our population.
This ordnance is not designed for hardened targets. It is designed for killing people, not penetrating.
I don't know if he can hit a satellite or not. However, if the MOAB's use was twofold- to take out the ISIS target in Afghanistan and send a message to Kim, perhaps we are more concerned about his abilities than we see reported. North Korea has made some strides in what they can do recently. It's unnerving to think of the possibility. I think we need to take him out, but that isn't diplomatic.
Thanks for the link and the information. Makes me feel a little better about no EMP. Shooting a person with a laser seems like the movie Real Genius.
We should be at war with radical Islam. Crushing it into oblivion. I just dislike the NK stuff. It's not a good idea.
According to the Pentagon this is the first time used outside testing...But, I sure you know better than the guys who dropped it.
You're both right. This was the first time THIS bomb was used but there was an earlier smaller version of it used in Afghanistan. I remember seeing it on the news. They had to attach it to a parachute so the plane dropping it had time to get away from the blast. It had a blast cloud that looked like a nuclear blast cloud. They called it a "big birtha"
An intelligence guy speaking just said this bomb is used to take out underground nuclear facilities, etc. Disclaimer: I have no idea about the capabilities or uses of this bomb, just reporting what I heard.
