In the case of extortion, just like theft, no charges would be made until the "victim" made the decision to press those charges. So to answer your question, Trump has not made an attempt to press extortion charges against Stormy Daniels, and would be unable to make a case for such charges unless he could make a valid case that coercion (which can include verbal or written instillation) was used against him.

But surely any competent unbiased lawyer would understand that the payments were extortion payments and not campaign hush money.

Again, extortion would only apply in a situation in which some form of coercion was used against the victim, and the victims themselves pressed those charges. In regards to the legal issues that the Trump campaign is facing, it all has to do with the fact that Trump registered as candidate July 19th 2016, and then proceeded to make hush payments to both Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal between that date and the election without disclosing any of those transactions to the proper election officials.

When you are registered as a candidate, you are required to disclose all payments made with the intention of influencing the outcome of the election.

President Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not to discuss what had transpired with other administration officials.

At Helsinki, Trump spent two hours alone with Putin, only translators were allowed. Many suspect Trump is being extorted by Putin, which would explain a lot. Only Putin knows what was said during those two hours. What is Trump hiding?

The just-completed Mueller Report recommends no new indictments. Under the circumstances that seems rather strange, and Donald Trump, Jr. and Jared Kushner must be relieved. The following emails were exchanged in June 2016.

Jun 3, 2016, at 10:36 AM, Rob Goldstone wrote:

Good morning, Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting.

The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.

This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump - helped along by Aras and Emin.

What do you think is the best way to handle this information and would you be able to speak to Emin about it directly?

Thanks Rob I appreciate that. I am on the road at the moment but perhaps I just speak to Emin first. Seems we have some time and if it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer. Could we do a call first thing next week when I am back?

    Best,
    Don

On June 9, 2016, Donald Trump, Jr., Jared Kushner, and Trump's campaign manager, Paul Manafort, met with four Russian operatives representing the Russian government at Trump's home, Trump Tower, to obtain damaging information on the Clinton campaign.

This is a clear example of collaboration between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

The women clearly extorted money from Trump. Paying extortion is not influencing an election. The victim is Trump.

Trump has done the right thing by calling for release of the Mueller report. NOW, he needs to stay away from it and have nothing more to do with it until the Attorney General, William Barr, has finished preparing it in the prescribed, LEGAL way for release to the public.

If Trump injects himself into the 'report' issue in any way until Barr is finished, he will only run the risk of hurting himself. Until the report is ready for release (in whatever form that takes), it is 'radioactive' to Trump!

Wisdom: President Trump... please just leave the thing ALONE, for your own good. You've WON, but don't "take a victory lap" yet....

There's no misunderstandings and there are no indictments and no collusion.

This is all two of Trump's fans had to say.

They know they are backing the wrong horse. They just won't admit it. "Principle" criticized me for being thorough. Man, that is pathetic.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller ended his probe without indicting one of its most politically sensitive subjects: Donald Trump Jr.

A key episode in Mueller’s 22-month probe into Russian election meddling was a secret meeting that the president’s eldest son took at Trump Tower in Manhattan in 2016 with a Russian lawyer connected to the Kremlin on the promise of being given dirt on Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Now, one of the inquiry’s most intriguing unanswered questions is why Trump Jr. remained largely untouched by Mueller despite his participation in the meeting and questions about whether he tried to cover it up.

Also left unscathed was Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser. He, too, was at the Trump Tower meeting and had other contacts, including a conversation with the Russian ambassador during the presidential transition about setting up a secret communications channel through the Russian embassy.

Mueller has delivered his final report to Attorney General William Barr, who’s deciding how much of the findings to release to Congress and the public and said he may be able to outline its “principal conclusions” as soon as this weekend. It’s not clear, however, whether the report or Barr’s summaries will deal directly with President Donald Trump or members of his family.

There’s been no public indication that Mueller’s team interviewed Trump Jr. Legal experts said that it’s common for prosecutors to avoid questioning potential targets for indictments. But questions will be raised about Mueller’s approach if it turns out that he neither questioned the president’s relatives nor made them a target of his investigation.

We know who backed the wrong horse. Trump's finishing his term. Try and come to grips with that. 2020 is up in the air, and I'm a registered (I)ndie so I haven't placed any wagers yet. The 2020 DNC field doesn't appeal to me at all personally, so Trump might again be the most reasonable facsimile of a centerist candidate. There's no question in my mind that (D)'s could have had an ally in Trump. On immigration, taxes, education, and infrastructure. (D)'s squandered golden opportunities. Ones not often granted to the House / Senate minority. (D)ysfunctional governance benefits no one.

Look at what Sandy is trying to do. It may be appear hilarious on the surface, but below the surface it’s pretty malicious.

In his own inept way, he’s trying to manufacture consent.

He’s using a talking point, to try and enforce a narrative.

What we’ve witnessed in the last two years should offend anyone’s sensibilities, no matter their political leanings. This is has gone far beyond defending trump, partisanship, ideology, or political party.
This is about truth vs. lies.

It’s been Muller time for the last two years. All I heard was how Muller was going to save the Republic by delivering justice. Trump was going to be impeached, and frog marched off to prison, for being a Russian asset, or some unbelievable nonsense. Muller investigated a conspiracy, and when he didn’t deliver those preordained conclusions of that conspiracy, what else could explain this, but another conspiracy.

Stormy and Karen McDougal both fall far short of the legal requirements for extortion, it's not an issue.

The report was to investigate Russian collusion, it has not found any of an indictable quality, Trump is in the clear.

Wishful thinking. There is so much evidence of Trump lying that only a fool would vote to reelect a serial liar. And lets see so far his campaign manager, his personal lawyer among others are now in jail. And we haven't even seen the Mueller report.
