There it is boys and girls.

After years of my trusty 870 spending lonely days with me in the marsh, I went semi auto.

The Remington 1187 Waterfowler Super Mag.

I considered Benellis and Berettas, but I once owned a Franchi, and I am done with overpriced Italian made crap.

Molded overgrips so I can wear gloves, no more having to pump between shots, and the Hyviz sighting system. No more fighting corrosion from the brackish water, adequately camouflaged, and able to chamber 3.5" rounds for the odd goose day.

T minus 10 days. Only a scant 2 months before duck season. I may just have to pop some pheasant. Yum-o.

But wait! The fun does not stop there.

On old friend of mine is cleaning out his collection, and gave me his father's old Remington 1100.

Unfired for 40 years, looking like brand new, a perfect gun for those pesky quail and dove. A very nice gift that I will cherish for years to come.

It has been like Christmas only without the religion nonsense for TFM today.

You had someone give you an 1100! That's amazing. The 1100 is by far my favorite shotgun to shoot. Nice score.

    Indeed.

Unable to chamber modern waterfowl loads, that is going to be my skeet gun.

Not at ALL what I was expecting to see... I need to work on not just assuming every leftist hates guns.

To be honest I was half expecting to see this

What a giant piece of (*)(*)(*)(*). No. Bigger than giant. Enormous piece of (*)(*)(*)(*).

I get it, and like a fool I did not test it before taking it out into the field.

Opening day of duck season in come some ducks, I fire and miss. It happens. A lot. I looked down to pick my shell out of the water and guess what? There is no shell. It did not cycle. I rack a shell into the chamber. Next shot, same thing. Next shot same thing.

I get home and take the gun apart. It is missing the piston and piston seal, the parts integral to making the gun a semi auto.

Needless to say I send off a nastygram to Remington.

They agreed to send me the part overnight.

No problem though, I can just take the one off my 1100 as they are interchangeable.

So I head out yesterday morning and I decide to bring my ol' 870 just in case. Good call on my part. I took the 1187 out into the field and fired it. Jam. Cleared it. Fired it. Jam.

10 times in a row it jammed.

So I sent a really big nastygram to Remington demanding that the gun gets fixed asap.

    They went one better.

They offered to swap it out for a Versamax Waterfowl.

    http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/versa-max/versa-max-waterfowl.aspx

For no charge. The Versamax is $700 more than the 1187.

Now I had heard that Remington's quality has slipped, but apparently this new gun competes with the Italian models. It will chamber any length with no modifications and allegedly fire thousands of rounds with no jams.

Tht is some friggin' customer service.

Most New England States have open carry laws and Vermont home of Bernie Saunders has the loosest

(*)(*)(*)(*) TFM. That sucks ass. Thank god Remington has good customer service. I often thought about purchasing a Benelli. But I am quite happy with my 870. For now. LOL

Toys are gOOt.Grown men do better once they have their toys.
    I want a Winchester rifle.Or maybe a .44 Henry.An all purpose repeater
rifle like what Teddy Roosevelt used on hunting expeditions in the West.
    Maybe a model 1894.
All I have now is a 30/30 Deer rifle and a 2o gauge automatic shotgun.

I knew about VT... and I grew up in Northern Virginia (not that it is part of New England... but it was home base which put NE right in the target zone as I was always a traveler).

It seemed to me that the North East held to constitutional rights more as a freedom formality than an incorporation, as most anti-gun stuff comes from the direction left. I have certainly never seen anyone carry in New England spending a decent amount of time there. Go to Wyoming grocery store and you see the right in action...

Again... it seemed to be something held to only in words, the message long since lost on the people.

I am really glad to see leftist gun enthusiasts... on two levels, one because it is a right afforded with reason and heritage, and two because if only my conservative friends are armed, I have a grim outlook for the future. At least with common ground, we might better find a common enemy.

I don't know. Benellis and Berettas are not cheap.

    Besides, this is pretty impressive.

I don't know of many semis that can do that.
