It's a complex issue. Clearly news outlets and information dissemination must be regulated either with fines or huge disclaimers. I don't exactly how you would do it. Coming from a country that had no private tv station until late 90's and where everything was controlled by state bodies I know that that kind of misinformation never existed.

Admittedly, I know less about Frau Haverbeck than you. It may be that she currently suffers from some form of dementia or, as you say: "cognitive disonance "sic (Cognitive dissonance).
If such is the case, then it is even more compelling that she not be incarcerated for "Thought Crimes"

I still think History is not written by the victor. First of all, there is never one history, but many. I don't know what you studied in the 70s, if it was History you should know better IMO. The history of WW II differs quite a bit depending on who you ask and whose study you read. If we look at WW I, we can clearly see that the Brits have a different narrative than the Germans.
You mentioned Vietnam, the History of the Vietnam War is in large parts written by American historians and the US lost that conflict.
I'd agree that the narrative of the victor is often the most powerful (Hiroshima & Nagasaki). But history written by the victor is something horribly superficial and inaccurate to me.

Those documentaries and especially Hollywood movies are probably among the worst sources one could possibly use.

One could definitely argue that a law that doesn't allow a certain opinion (denying the Holocaust) is a law against the freedom of speech. Well, that's just the way it is in roughly 15 or more countries, whether we like it or not. I for one don't have a problem with this (in this particular case). There are idiotic laws in many parts of the world. In Germany's case - as you probably know - the public display of Nazi symbols (if not used as a form of art, which is debated quite often) and the public denial of the Holocaust are considered an offence.

There's one flaw with your post. You did not swear to uphold the German laws and regulations. You swore to defend United States constitution. Our superiors do now allow us to travel to other countries and tell them what they can or cannot enforce.
