What must that be like beating the NYT! They're the Paper of Record. Will this motivate any one else to sue:

One of them reported that there were watermelons on Mars last week.

The other one is the Babylon Bee.

I think this defense should call the Trump Cheeto Defense!

Notice Trump makes some completely insane, unsupportable, and/or opposite claim to the his previous days claim, he simply says "Oh, I was joking before", and claims his enemies should have known better!

The Bee stories were frequently taken by Conservatives (and some Liberals) and used to foment outrage or to encourage negative rhetoric.

The most noticeable places like Fox and other Right wing actions is that places like Fox liked to not ever correct the Bee's Parody if it the Right Wingers liked the false story.

If only the left were as correct as they are passionate. We would live in a great world lol. Instead they are genuinely as misguided, on average, as they are emotional. And they trust the msm to a fault.

And Biden isn’t saying completely insane and false things everyday? I know the MSM is trying it’s best to edit out the poor mans dementia moments, but damn he makes Trump look absolutely brilliant.

Dude thinks Hispanics aren’t being vaccinated because they’ll be identified and deported? Seriously what? Guess all Hispanics are illegals in Biden land. Damn.

Just look at the misinformation The Babylon Bee is publishing:

With the Democrats, the jokes write themselves.... we just have to quote them.

Except they aren't. Can you point to a single right wing commentator that has used a BB story for anything other than a punchline? I've never heard of it happening. I have seen numerous on-air and in-print leftists blow their **** over BB satire not realize that, uh ya, its obvious and intentional satire.

I'm not sure about the legal technicalities and I know that in the US you can sue for pretty much anything but while "trafficked in misinformation" is certainly overplaying it, I would argue that the Babylon Bee (and sites like it) isn't an entirely innocent party in this.

I've always thought that actual satire should be clearly marked as such - someone should always know they're reading satire from the outset - but these sites go out of their way to avoid making that apparent, especially where individual articles are linked elsewhere. They clearly do this because they're like real news websites in that they largely make their money from advertising clicks which means they want to get as many people to click on their articles as possible. Intentionally tricking people to believe an extreme sounding headlines is true is an obvious method to achieve that and maintaining that long enough for some people to forward a link on to other people would be even better.

I think the other aspect referred to in the NYT is the Babylon Bee has a partisan political angle and it does seem that their satire is more negatively targeted towards things that would be considered "left". They're perfectly entitled to do that of course but they can't act all indignant if they're called out on it.

Because their tagline - "Your trusted source of Christian News SATIRE" - is too subtle for progressives. Alternatively they recognize that satire is an effective instrument for subverting their narrative.... thus they go straight to censoring, ad homs and lying. The reason the left see satire as a threat is that it was the technique they used for the past 50 years to demolish the right. The right never succeeded in censoring the left's satire and the left has not yet succeeded in completely censoring the right's satire (although it certainly has partially succeeded).

That appears in search engine results but not on the actual site (which doesn't make it much a tag line) and not in the direct links to their articles that 99% of people will see. The fact remains that lots of people, regardless of politics, can be fooled in to believing their linked articles are real, if only very briefly (which is enough for the advertising money). It is obvious that is the way this site (and others like it) are intentionally designed to work.

I'm not objecting to satire, I'm objecting to satire being presented as if it were real.

satire can be misleading and contain misinformation too, do you disagree?

    Trump was fooled

"Trump Tweets Out Fake Story Criticizing Biden From Satirical News Site"

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommyb...den-from-satirical-news-site/?sh=221740585c38

"President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted a link to a story entitled “Twitter Shuts Down Entire Network to Slow Spread of Negative Biden News” from the Babylon Bee"

"After sharing the link, Trump declared: “Wow, this has never been done in history. This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this. Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T.”"

The Democrats at the NYTimes had to immediately retract this particular lie, because they are clearly a satirical site like Onion News. The New York Times article painted them as a far-right news site that peddles in misinformation, and they were capable of demonstrating financial damages. The site clearly writes in its "about us" section: "The Babylon Bee is the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims. We write satire about Christian stuff, political stuff, and everyday life." https://babylonbee.com/about

Babylon Bee says the company will also go after Snopes and Facebook. The NYTimes retraction expressed that the misinformation they disseminated was acquired from Snopes and facebook.

I agree with you, but knew there was a better tactic. Check out my post. I decided not to go with a double-standard response, because I knew he was lying. Democrats always lie. It doesn't even make any sense. And I'm sure if I had looked long enough I could have found a disclaimer on the Onion site if I tried. But I also knew one of the Democrats would decide to stop being lazy potato and find it. I could see it coming a mile away. Or they would have went with the even dumber misuse of "Whataboutism", because that's a lazier option.

Democrats have become so accustomed to lying that it only takes me a couple minutes on average to prove it. And it's even better when they post a Democrat news article, because it demonstrates that they read fake news.

Yes, they're probably a major instigator in the trend, though I've no idea if they also have the issue of implicit political bias. I'm sure it's all making some people lots of money though. As long as you get those valuable clicks, nothing else actually matters.

(A bit of a necro here, I had to go back and remind myself what it was about.)

And online just click on the "About" button where it will be stated this is a satirical site.

But the OP story here is just so telling that these left wing "fact checkers" must people they just bring in off the street and give them a computer with internet access and then it was like pulling teeth to then get the editorial boards to admit they screwed up.
