You "personally know hockey players that can't run around the block"? NHL Team Hockey players? That "can't run around the block"...? How can I put this delicately...? Bullshit!
This was what I mentioned earlier: How do you KNOW people will be back? There's more than a few things I did years ago that I'm not interested in now. People grow, move on, change over time. If they decide that the NFL is pissing them off, they'll go find something else that's interesting to them, start getting emotionally invested in that, the NFL becoming a distant memory. There's something one of my professors told me way back in teaching school - that if one student asks a question, it means ten students are thinking it but are too shy to ask. It baffles me why NFL management is acting relatively blasé about their fan base showing signs of leaving. For every one person doing so, they ought to assume there's ten thinking about it. I saw this at every business I worked at, the ones who were were successful tended to have a management philosophy that even a single customer was worth fighting for. The NFL seems to think they're above that.
When I first moved to Denver I worked at the Pepsi Center bringing stuff into the locker rooms. I also got lucky and got a job picking up the Bronco's opponents equipment from the airport and delivering it to the stadium. Football players are in much better shape than NHL players. Sorry it's just the truth. The basketball guys though have them both beat. Oh and I am a big hockey fan as well.
This scandal will probably be finish off tackle football at every level. ““There’s no question about it. The amount of publicity, beginning with the NFL and what you see on national news, has caused concern among parents,” said Bob Gardner, the NFHS executive director. “Probably some who would have been more inclined to let their young men play, maybe are making different decisions now.” A study published last month in the medical journal Translational Psychiatry showed that kids who played football before age 12 were more than twice as likely to have mood and behavior problems.” “While participation in tackle football is down, flag football is becoming more popular. Participation in the NFL Flag program run by USA Football for kids ages 6-17 increased by 66 percent from 2013 to 2016, with 385,000 kids playing last year.” ASSOCIATED PRESS, Football’s decline has some high schools disbanding teams, 10/6/17. https://apnews.com/66e699491a3b4782...ecline-has-some-high-schools-disbanding-teams
If my memory is correct, and it often isn't, don't the Cowboys and Lions typically have games on Thanksgiving?
Rightwingers have singlehandedly caused such huge drop in popularity in just over a month? Wow... things are better than I have thought, and looking up! Pfear teh power!
America is sending it's message, they don't want to see people kneeling and disrespecting the Nation. The league and the owners are going to need to tell these players to stand respectfully during the anthem, or keep losing viewers. You are on the clock. Save your protests for your own time.
The butt hurt of the left on this is quite interesting. Most of them don't even like the sport, but anyway they can crap on Patriotism and unity... count them in!
For sure. Also lets not forget fantasy football. There is a huge population of people who only watch the NFL because of that.
Yes. A long time ago Dallas bit the bullet and was the only team that accepted the NFL’s proposal to hold a game on thanksgiving. The Lions soon followed suit and now it’s tradition. Because it’s the Cowboys, most everyone will watch them. It helped cement my favorite team as America’s Team.
Makes sense, except that I am referring to the Trump base, and I think that they will stick with football after the anger has faded.
Two whole games and your hooked? That was probably me too except I was 9 years old when it happened. I played for hockey for 20 years and it's the only American team sport I still watch and attend. Most hockey fans like it being less popular. It keeps the riff raff and most of the commercial crap out of hockey. The NHL Network unfortunately caved in and has fashion model bimbos showing highlights and every black player who ever played on pregame shows so I skip them.
I had watched NFL games occasionally, and when the Av's won the Stanley Cup, of course I watched it avidly, but fell away after that. But I watched the Av's game with the Rangers, and then yesterday with an excellent team, the NJ Devils. WOW! I'd totally forgotten how fast everything moves, how quick the reactions and wits of the players are. The strategies change constantly, and the players must be an excellent combo of physical strength AND mental depth. You know QUALITY sport when you see it, and I've seen it in the NHL. My one complaint is that it is pretty hard to see the puck itself on TV, even on my 55-incher.... During the Winter Olympics I think they had a computer-assist that colored the puck a bright orange, but I don't see that now. Just the sheer demands and stamina of having to skate at high speeds, under precise control, backwards and forwards, plus all the deft movements you have to make with the hockey stick, is enough to impress anyone that these guys aren't just a "bunch of dumb jocks".... the By comparison, watching the NFL is like watching beasts in a stockyard.... . "Hey, shut up! I got a degree in Basket Weaving at college!"
The Devils were very organized and disciplined yesterday, and the Av's weren't. The Devils picked up a player that the Av's wanted, named Butcher, and he was very effective against us. But more than anything else, we didn't pass well, and we were just "all over the place".... But, yes, I DO have a lot to learn, and that will be part of what will make my newly-rediscovered interest in hockey so much fun. I say to myself, "Imagine, finding something really FUN and EXCITING in sports again...." BTW, you know what's funny? Kaepernick says that now he'll stand for the National Anthem -- IF -- some team will hire him to play again! Oh, be still my heart! Somebody please hire him so we can see this hypocrite actually stand for the nation that has given him so much! Also, it would be FUN watching enemy players tear his self-adoring ass to pieces every chance they get.... Another thing that people inexplicably hate: constant commercial breaks. No one wants to see a commercial, cut back to 2 minutes of game play, and back to commercial for the 2-minute warning. It's annoying.
Great afternoon games today. The Seahawks won a close one in LA against the Rams. Shut down the best RB in the game, Gurley. And the Cowboys blew a double digit lead against the Packers. Eagles are running away with the division. Now it's time to see if my Tribe can finish off the Yankees. GO TRIBE!! Oh, and bookmarked to come back here and laugh when the NFL sets ratings records for the Super Bowl as they seem to do every year. LOL
Judging by the loudness of the Cowboys-Packers game today, it doesn't appear that fans are no longer interested. Even despite the Boys losing.
Pence can stage a premeditated walkout, his boss Donnie thinks it makes good optics. Today Pence looked like a clown.....they should have thrown buckets of popcorn at him.
