Alabama governor orders statewide mask mandate due to COVID-19. ‘Numbers don’t lie.’

"While Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has resisted implementing a statewide mask order, Alabama’s governor on Wednesday announced one for her state as COVID-19 numbers continue to rise.

Saying “numbers don’t lie,” Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said her executive order will be in effect from 5 p.m. Thursday through July 31.

Masks must be worn in three different places outlined in the order."

    ......................................................................................................
COVID is forcing some Repub governors to face the reality that they have been dead wrong in thinking strict protocols were not necessary in the fight against it. They used to scoff at the exponential spread of the virus in states like NY. No more.

Their mistake.........trying to follow along with Capt. Clorox's "we have it under control, it's all going to be fine" idiocy as he failed to discourage reckless behavior among the "liberate" us crowd while encouraging that states re-open their economies unsafely and too soon.

This is more than abject stupidity, it's a disregard for common sense practices to protect the public's health.

'Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed an executive order Wednesday night explicitly banning cities from enacting their own mask mandates, even as the state experiences a sharp rise in coronavirus cases and other Republican governors are turning to mask orders to try to quell the surge.

Kemp’s order voids existing mask mandates in more than a dozen cities or counties, while also extending other coronavirus social-distancing restrictions statewide."

While the left sits here and tries to scorn repub states for their cases rising, they ignore the FACTS that the cases are rising in the liberal cities where BLM protesting was encouraged. GA in general isn't seeing an increase, ATL, Savanah, Macon, Valdosta are. FL isn't seeing a spike, Orlando, Tampa, and Miami are. TX isn't spiking, Dallas, Houston and Austin are. And lets be real, at least 80% of America will get the disease with the majority being asymptomatic. The biggest point will be that GOP governors aren't mandating sick old people get placed in nursing homes like NY and NJ governors did which killed over 30k people in those states.

An American life is an American life whether in Miami or Topeka. A real American would show concern and try to think of things they could help stop the deaths. To excuse death because of where it happens or because of the politics of those dying is callous.

Boston is a liberal city that has had NUMEROUS protests and still continue to have protests and MA numbers are FAR lower than states like TX, FL, AL, etc. So you can stop blaming the protesting.

    FL: 77,195

That deflective diatribe does not address the fact that most Repub governors have steadfastly refused to enact preventive protocols for the spread of the virus. Some have even gone so far as to prohibit municipalities from enacting mandatory mask rules.

I'm not playing the right/left state game. I don't care whether it is a rep or dem governor acting foolishly. The politicization of mask wearing is costing lives - in right and left states.

I didn't excuse anything. I want those in charge of those cities to be held accountable, that being democrats.

When you let the disease ravage your state the first time through, they hit herd immunity already. They still account for more deaths than FL, TX, and AL. Their death rates are 8 to 12x higher than GOP states. Again, at least 80% of the US will get it eventually.

You cant prevent the spread of the NOVEL disease without completely close everything down for months. Do you think everything will keep moving when no one is working? Food will just appear for everyone? You call it deflection but those who have the most control are the LIBERAL mayors before the governors or the president.

Amazing that you don't include CA. 62,258. Why focus on AL when CA is equal to TX. And the majority of CA cases come from LA county. Guess its because it a democrat governor and democrat mayor.

Show your proof the numbers in MA are due to "herd immunity".

No, its not. What cost lives was putting sick people in nursing homes which only happened in democrat ran states with democrat mayors. 2/3s of our deaths came from these places, NY, NJ, MA, MI, VA.

MA death rate 121 per 100,000.
FL death rate 21 per 100,000.
    https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/
MA cases so far...112,347 out of population of ~7M. Infection rate of 1.6% without knowing asymptomatic cases.
FL cases so far...315,775 out of population of ~21.4M. Infection rate of 1.4% without knowing asymptomatic cases.

Yeah, FL still has some catching up to do. But please, tell me how much better MA is than FL.

I didn't mention lots of states. Was I supposed to give a breakdown of all 50 states? People in CA are clearly acting like aholes too by not social distancing and wearing masks. Shame on them. You seem to want to put all the blame on govt officials but the people who live in these states are also complicit in spreading the virus by not following proper protocol. Blame is to be put on govt officials who aren't enforcing mask wearing or enforced it too late as well as re-opening to quickly. Blame is also to be put on we the people who don't wear masks and don't social distance.

No, but if youre going to cherry pick the "worst" cases states, why leave out one of the top ones that is easily worse than AL.

Yeah, people going to work and not wearing masks is the problems, not mass riots. I don't know about you, but there is no time during my day to day work life have I been in any group of people as close as the protestors were for days. Again, the spikes are happening where people were protesting in BIG liberal cities. Not in rural areas where people are just working.

Right, because MA had majority of those deaths early on when no one knew much about this virus. We know what to do to flatten the curve which is why states seeing huge numbers NOW means they are being stupid.
Right now the number of cases in FL is astronomical compared to MA.

So it is the governors responsibility to look out for their own state?

    Got it.

If riots/protesting was the cause then MA should be seeing huge numbers like all those states that re-opened to quickly and don't wear masks. But, as I pointed out, MA numbers are FAR lower on a daily avg basis.

Okay, if you want to play the political game - what about Texas and Arizona and Florida now?
