My healthcare last year $140 per month through Obamacare, $150 deductible, out of pocket maximum $500.

My heart surgery was $180,000, I paid $650 for the year plus my monthly bill of $140 per month.

If Trump and the Republicans get their way, I could very well have been be dead, just as many people who were barred from health care for people under the 140% income that the Republicans have condemned by refusing to allow the Obamacare Medicaid In 23 states.

Burn in hell, Republicans. Jesus is waiting for you to send you to hell while enabling billionaires to double their income.

And those other countries take 50% of income from people making $60k a year. Not to mention the 25% sales tax (VAT) on everything. And the 100%+ markup on gas and imported cars for Tax. They don't "just pay for it", they suck the earnings out of their people with force through taxation. Not to mention the wait times for Chemo and other surgeries that leaves about 5 out of 6 people dead who don't get the treatment in time.

Guess who paid the other $179,000 of your procedure. It wont be you and the insurance people wont make it up on the stock market when they invest your $140 premium. It comes from everyone else, the insurance company still is looking to make money and they will raise the rate for everyone else, and you in the future. I see you are happy to force others to take care of you, but that's why the right doesn't want to take care of those who wont take care of themselves. Socialism causes leaches on society. Imagine if everyone had a $180k surgery, which most elderly people will encounter in their lives, how on earth are you really thinking $650 and $1,680 a year is going to be solvent fiscal strategy?

Nope, and the left will keep pushing how "wonderful" it is like they have done for SS since the 1930's. We all know its crap and that there are plenty of other ways people can save for retirement now without the government forcing everyone to give to the government. Especially when the government is going to turn around and spend your money on stupid **** and rack up $21 trillion in debt with $100 trillion+ in unfunded liabilities. The ignorant and government dependent will claim till their dying days in a waiting line for cancer treatment that Obamacare is the best thing and they couldn't have lived without it.

    Lol, no.

My surgery was billed at $180,000. The insurance company paid out a total of $24,000.

In the 3 years prior to my heart failure, I was paying basically a $900 per month for insurance.

$900 x 36 = $32,000+. I paid for the bill except insurance got all the money, then the insurance company canceled the company who was carrying the insurance 30 days retroactively! Lost my insurance, then had the heart failure 6 months later.

These health insurance companies are paying $50 MILLION bonuses!

The reason insurance and medical care cost DOUBLE every other first world countries is the ripoff system our politicians are padding themselves as they pay billions to medicap providers.

The ONLY reason the politicians is too many are Republicans. The Democrats have tried to implement much better systems (Democrats would implement Medicare for All now if the Senate had won) yet the lying ridiculous claims, like we see here in this thread, keep making us retail pruces for meds!

Everyone else manages it and many countries do a better job!

    These propaganda lies are insane!

First you run away from the initial argument that Obama was lying when he said most. Now you are running away from this notion that Obama made insurance. But ok.

If you want to talk about the employer insurance mandate to provide health insurance to full time employees and the fact that the law defines full time employees at ~32 hours, then OK. Yes, that happened. Yes, employers reacted by providing health insurance to most employees and sometimes by cutting hours of employees so that they were not considered full time. Either way, those were private business reactions to their own financial decisions. And to the extent that the law did create some adverse incentives, Obama and Democrats tried - repeatedly - to amend the law and make it better.

I couldn't get my first choice in the marketplace this year, as they raised their rates 6X from last year, but I was able to get cut rate (I'm guessing) insurance for 2019 for $85 a month. We'll see how it goes...

    Can't speak for others...

I didnt try to discuss everything which was mandated to be covered by Obamacare, just a couple of examples to which you did add one.

But the price of health insurance also stabilized under Obamacare because we had a standard to apply across the board for what qualified as health insurance. Furthermore, health care costs increased at their lowest rate in 40 years under Obamacare.

And it was a money grab or political statement by employers who did. Many states like NJ already required businesses with as few as 3 employees to provide health insurance for decades.

Obamacare also includes provisions to help people afford the actual medical expenses (a la the deductibles) if they exceed a certain percentage of your income (net worth?).

And that is ignoring the real potential of someone not going to the doctor because they dont have insurance, the problem getting worse, and resulting in a 100k bill.

    So no, not worthless.

This argument again! Other countries also pay a MUCH higher income tax plus a VAT tax and most, including the poor contribute to their system. The left here can't seem to wrap their head around that in order for such a system to work, everyone needs skin in the game and you will have to realize that most of our disposable income will be reduced substantially.

When I was unemployed, I tried to get to as close to my monthly premium I had with my previous employer which was $500 per month for a family of 4 and and a max out of pocket of $6,400. The closest I could get to my old premium was a bronze package with a premium of $565 per month and a max out of pocket of $30,000. This while unemployed but since I received a severance package and paid vacation, I did not qualify for subsidies.

Obamacare created a problem, not fix it.

So you had a new insurance company? You didn't pay $32k to the new insurance company did you?

So? Don't get me wrong, I would love for us to go back to concierge service for medicine instead of everyone having insurance that is spent on things like a minor cough or ear infection. But you saying that people on the top reaping profits isn't the problem.

And the fact that the other countries tax the living bejebus out of their middle class citizens.

I don't want to be taxed at 50% on income over $60k a year. I don't want a 25% VAT on purchases either.

By "do a better job", what do you mean? Do you mean that there is a long waiting list for cancer treatment? You have a better survivor rate of Cancer in America. Subtracting diets of Americans, we actually have the longest life spans of any other country in the world? Our system deficiencies aren't a result of not seeing a doctor, its the fact that people who are told they are fat by a doctor and should cut out certain foods of their diet take the advice as "body shamming" or just do what they want. American's, especially fat ones, are the epitome of the saying "you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink". We have the fattest poor people in the history of the world, and do find it surprising that fast food restaurants accept EBT payments?

That much higher income tax is mostly for their welfare programs. If you compare actual per capita healthcare spending, other countries do about as much public tax-payer funded spending as we do.

I don't know what heavily subsidized insurance plan you had before, but what you're paying now is a lot closer to what health insurance really costs in the US.

Nobody ever got low deductible health insurance for $200 a month. Not unless it was very heavily subsidized, or didn't cover anything. (Trump is bringing back junk insurance, and the GOP is pushing to revive pre existing conditions).

I am sympathetic. As someone who was once self employed, I had to write that check too.

And the ACA doesn't help you if you make too much, as you and I both apparently do!

But if you have little income, or you hide your income, you absolutely can get subsidized insurance on exchanges for $100 a month. I know small business people who do it.

    Agreed.

Why Americans want to pay the highest prices in the world,. and be exposed to risk and high deductible and co pays is beyond me.

No one else in the industrialized world would put up with it.

You don't consider medicare for all as "welfare"? They don't have that many poor people than us that requires them to take such a heafty tax on the middle class. And they have nothing of the defensive military spending as us, which if our defense spending went to $0, we still couldnt cover medicare for all without taxing the middle class like Denmark.

Denmark has a very high standard of living. As high, or higher in many respects, than ours.

The middle class in Denmark lives quite well from what I saw when I was there.

If you look at just healthcare, they spend just as much on public tax-payer funded healthcare as we do. When I mean welfare, I mean the non-healthcare component, and that is why their taxes are much higher.

Funny, but VAT is always a popular solution with right wingers, who always favor regressive consumtion taxes.

There is no evidence to support your claim that we have longer life expectancies if we factor out diet. None.

But life expectancy in the US went down last year, the only major industrialized country (other than Russia) to produce that dismal result.

As for diet, aren't you right wingers the ones who screamed when Blooberg got rid of 2 litre bottles and cheered when Betsy DeVos' crew made the school lunchroom safe for junk food again?????

What does that have to do with anything? They are a very prosperous market based economy that also has an enormous social security net.
