    Pandora just opened the box.

The above comment makes no sense now. It will.

Saying - "we simply do not know if God's exist" does not give credence to the existence of Gods.

What is a Psychic snowflake ?

There is no logic in believing on the basis of "faith" either but, there is no shortage of illogical and irrational people in this world. Common sense is not common :)

A while back, I was in a similar discussion with "Joe".
"Joe" believed, more or less, that if something hadn't been disproved, it was possible.

I made analogies to Santa and the Easter Bunny. "Joe" refused to discuss childish make-believe things like Santa and the Easter Bunny.

So, to continue the discussion, I made up the most ridiculous thing I could think of - PsychicSnowflakes. I showed "Joe" that PsychicSnowflakes had not been disproved. The discussion went on from there - ad nauseum.

The existence of God is not as "unbelievable" as Santa or the Easter Bunny.

It also depends on the definition of God. To the ancients - some alien race with advanced technology would have been viewed as Gods.

Because all exercises in stupidity are unnecessary. You're welcome.

Even if that were true, what the hell's it got to do with me?

I think I have a better question which is why should humanity spend prodigious amount of money, hours of time and raw resources on deities when there is no solid evidence they exist, ask us to worship them and do something for this worship and expenditure of resources either negatively (unleash horrors on the human race, as in won't) OR positive (do good things for humanity)? Religion and theism is a sum loss and has been since the founding of humanity as the dominant species. Atheists can't disprove deities but theists can't prove the benefits of their position to humanity.

For sure it won't happen soon. But there is some spread in America and Western Europe.

You probably should not spend any time or money on any gods.

But that is not the question.

The question is: Do gods exist...or are there no gods.

Bottom line: None of us knows.

Now...some people simply have to believe "guess" that a GOD exists. They seem compelled to do so by ego or fear.

Some people simply have to believe "guess" that NO GODS exist. They seem compelled to do so by ego or fear.

Others just acknowledge that they do not know...and that the question MAY be unanswerable.

I am proud that I am part of that last group.

Are you suggesting the ONLY things that exist...are things that humans, the dominant life form on this tiny planet, can determine?

C'mon, CJ...you are stretching with that.

Let it be okay to acknowledge that we do not know...and end it there.

Something may have "caused" the Big Bang...and "created" this thing we humans call "the universe." IF something did...that thing is a god.

To suggest that thing is irrelevant to human existence is like suggesting a mother is irrelevant to a child's existence...or a particular acorn (the one from which it grew) to a particular oak tree's existence.

(I suspect most atheists are atheists mostly because of religion and the religious...rather than because of whether or not gods exist.)

Well if you can give me one single example of something that exists in human pervue that humans cannot determine I will be happy to make that acknowledgement.

If you want to discuss the Easter Bunny or the Santa Claus...do it with a toddler or an atheist. They enjoy that kind of discussion.

If you are going to define gods as "a manifestation of the human imagination"...and then suggest "therefore they do not exist"...I would suggest a course or two in logic...because that is a far cry from being logical.

I'm going to assume you are kidding...or that you were not thinking when you worded that comment.

Rework it...and I might consider it for response.

Your analogy between a mother and child would be more germaine if you used the grandmother fifteen generations removed. While knowing ones ancient genology is of interest to some it is totally irrelevant to the current child's existance.

I have no idea...and anyone who thinks that humans, the dominant life form on this tiny planet, have to be able to describe something in order for it to be...is just flat out silly.

    Gods may exist.

I do acknowledge, however, that for some people it is almost impossible to say, "I do not know."

So...for those people, "There is a GOD" or "There are no gods" are needed to keep ego and fear in check.

    I understand.

Ecco...are you saying that "psychicSnowflakes" do not exist?

    If "yes"...why?

(We've already gone through this...but we can do it again.)

Interesting that nobody seems to actually be able to demonstrate why the Easter Bunny analogy is not perfectly applicable. But if you can It would be instructive for all of us you think are less logical than yourself to have you explain using formal logic why the analogy is not valid. So far your only " logic" appears to be you believe in god and disbelieve in the Bunny.

And "Joe" handled that conversation and showed how illogical you were being.

I was in "Joe"'corner during that discussion.

    It is entirely possible to:

    Not "believe" there ARE gods.
Not "believe" there ARE NO gods.

    I...I, Frank Apisa...

...do not "believe" any gods exist...and...

...I also do not "believe" there are no gods.

    Nothing illogical about that.

Perhaps you should reread your post #261. I know you were trying to move the scope of the discussion to areas beyond human knowledge, i just brought it back.

    I re-read it...and nothing changes.

I am saying it is possible that things exist that we humans cannot determine exist.

You are asking me to show an example of such a thing. You are asking me to show an example of something that exists that humans cannot determine exists.

    That makes no sense.

Do you, in fact, think that everything that exists...humans have determined that they exist? Do you honestly think it is impossible for there to be unknowns? Do you honestly think it is impossible for there to be things that humans will never know existed?

    C'mon!

And just exactly why does that demonstrate the flaw of the Bunny analogy? That whas what you said was illogical.

Exactly. You are making an assumption that you cannot demonstrate to be true. The assumption of the existence of a god is precisely the same.

If you want to discuss the Easter Bunny...do it with a toddler...or an atheist. Toddlers and atheists both seem to like talking about the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.
